Liefield's Cable #1 varient cover

And I never said he was a great artist...but he is an artist, nevertheless...who has been influential in the business and helped create cool characters like Deadpool and Cable, so lets give him a little credit where credit is due.

I can only speak for myself, but I think Liefeld is a terrible artist. Making contributions to your given profession does make you good at your job, if that's what you're trying to imply. Plenty of horrible creators have made their mark on comics over the years and they've remained just that: horrible creators.

You can't agree and disagree with me at the same time. Seems like you want to disagree for the sake disagreement...again how petty.

Actually, I never agreed with you, I've never liked Deadpool or Cable, my hate for Deadpool is well documented on here.

That has to be the worst analogy I've heard yet. Liefeld and Image came out during the early 90's when over-ripped muscular super heroe's and abnormally thin and scantily clad females were the norm. His artwork fit the time period. 'nuff Said.

Yes, 10 years ago. Now, his art is misplaced and most of our tastes have become more refined. When Liefeld was at his apex of popularity, I was between the ages of 9-11. I don't like the same stuff I did then that I do now. For example, I loved Full House, but now I watch it and think "How did I like this crap?" To be honest, I don't remember if I liked Liefeld back in the day, because I was at an age where I didn't know who wrote or drew comics back then. Looking back, there are so many Liefeld copycats that maybe I did like him, but now, I see his art and I'm disgusted.

There's just something about Liefield getting bashed that makes me laugh, and I like laughing; it just makes me happy!

I mean again though...that might just be his style...maybe he doesnt want to draw anatomically correct people. I mean some comic artists like to draw some things very well, and others not so well, again its just their style. Maybe he's overhyped..but why does that condemn as a violator of the comics code?
There's disliking an artist's style, and then there's pointing out bad art. I don't like Chris Bachalo's style, particularly his action scenes. However, there's technically nothing wrong with his art. It just feels flat and hard to interpret, to me.

Rob Liefeld is an artist who won't draw a character twice the same way on a single page.

One of the first comics I can remember reading was the X-Force issue where Cable and Wolverine fought. Don't really remember much about it aside from that.

Regardless, though, I've always found the "Oh, so you can draw so much better?" argument to be fairly worthless. By that argument, no one should be able to have any opinion on any movie, book, comic, TV show, piece of art, or anything else, ever, because they can not single-handedly produce something better.

It's idiotic.

I dislike pretty much any artist who doesn't have clean lines, a basic grasp of anatomy, and an eye for detail. Which is why I dislike Liefeld. it's why I also dislike JRJR. I know everyone else loves the guy, btu I've never liked the scratchy look all of his art has. I dislike it for the same reason I dislike Lenil Yu.

Perez, Pelletier, Hitch, Lee, Epting, McNiven...those are some of my favorite artists.

Liefeld's work looks dated and cliched now. Every rendition he does of Deadpool is an attempt to make him look like the most bad@$$ MFer ever. Too bad that he's mostly a comedic character now, so that really doesn't seem to match. Likewise, Cable has hardly been a shoulder-pad wearing, giant-gun toting mofo in the Cable and Deadpool comic, despite how Liefeld draws him for cover shots.

His artwork is just silly. And you don't need an MFA in artistic design to be able to see that.

Wait, JRJr doesn't have clean lines, a basic grasp of anatomy or an eye for detail?

Your reply makes much more sense than anybody elses. You actually can criticize peoples work through comparison...and not just nitpick one person for the sake of nitpicking (which is what everybody else is doing).

JRJR has not been one of my favorites either...all his characters have huge lips and that scratchiness isn't my favorite style...what I do like about him though is his nack for drawing cool fights and action sequences. Another scratchy style is Mark Texiera who I adore. I still think coupled with Javiar Saltaires pencils, he draws the best Ghost Rider ever.

As for Liefeld, he's not the worst artist out there...lets leave it at that.

Chris Bachalo's art was adored by likes of Salvador LaRocca because he called his style simple and strong with plenty of fluidity and he even said he tries to mimic his style because he himself draws too much detail in his work. But you know to me Chris Bachalo's art is the most generic comic art possible...when I think of comics..I think of Chris Bachalo's work. When I think of Liefeld I think of early 90s big guns, big pecs, pig biceps, and big torpedo boobs...its got a nostalgic feel to it.

You should see someone about that, get psychological treatment immediately.

Yeah, I've pretty much cornered your defense of Rob Liefeld to you being highly nostalgic for the 90's. Hell, I like a lot of stuff from the 90's, doesn't mean I can't see the faults in it now.

Why should he get psychological treatment for that? I think of all those things when I think of Liefeld, too.

I don't know, do you like thinking about big guns, big sweaty pecs, bulging manly biceps?

The Spanish Inquisition fit its time period. Draining sick people's blood with leeches fit its time period. The French Reign of Terror fit its time period. They were stupid time periods.

You're the one who keeps having the epic failings in logic. I think I win.

Leeches are still used in Medicine.

Thats like saying look at stone carvings from the stone age with women with huge wide asses and giant breasts and say that you can see the fault in that now because its not anatomically correct art. Art is art...it fit their period and 200 yrs from now it will be still considered art. Take that as you will.

BTW, 90s for me was the best time for comics. Thats when I really got into comics. Ghost Rider, X-Men with Jim Lee and the Kuberts, the Punisher, Deaths Head II (Marvel UK), Pitt, Spawn, those were great reads back then. I ate that stuff up like a fat man at an all you can eat buffet.
