I've read some of the old comics, and saw that animated one, which was partly scripted by Ray Bradbury. I think it would make a decent flick, and the sudden child fantasy flick craze that's going on would give it a boost, though I'd want it to be more faithful, as the original strips were known for being extremely surreal, trippy, and morbid as far as what the boy had to face. Hopefully someone will pick it up one of these days.

I've been a fan of Nemo for a very long time.....one of my prize possessions is a hardback compilation of all Nemo strips put out in the 70's. I've always wanted to see a good movie made from the strip.....and now, with the CGI technology we have, it's a possibility.

I have the Windsor McCay Masterworks Edition on my shelf which I haven't watched yet... But on to the topic at hand... I love the 80s animated movie when I was a kid and I recently watched it again. It's not a bad flick and has some wonderful bits, however the script structure is what killed it. Based on that concept since I haven't read hte original strips, I agree it'd make a great movie if you had the right writer behind it.

Francis Lawrence Set To Direct ‘Little Nemo In Slumberland’ Adaption For Netflix – Jason Momoa Set To Star (EXCLUSIVE)

We have learned that Francis Lawrence is set to direct an adaption of Windsor Mccay’s ‘Little Nemo In Slumberland’ for Chernin Entertainment and Netflix. The film will follow the story of the book where a young girl, Nema, with the help of a large half-man/half-monster creature, travels to a mystical land in her dreams in search of her missing father.

Jason Momoa will play the lead supporting male character, Flip the creature, who is described as a “nine-foot tall creature that is half-man, half-beast, has shaggy fur and long curved tusks.”

Still would bang.

Never thought we'd get a Little Nemo live-action movie and there'd be zero hype for it lol

Comes out tomorrow on Netflix.

Oh I thought this was finding nemo?

Yeah, I would have never recognized it. Not cause Nemo is now a girl, while there were some obvious visual "problems" to navigate around, not sure how you just abandon the whole look of a comic strip that lives and breathes on the visual aesthetic of it's universe.
Director Francis Lawrence: I was actually not aware of the source material until I was handed an early draft of the script for this

I saw some of the (original) stuff, but the idea was always to sort of take the original idea from the source material and then kind of like jump off with it and then create our own stories and our own look and bring it into a more contemporary world.

Original content and aesthetic, referenced away as "stuff"
Explains allot.

However Momoa's fun enthusiasm is as usual contagious, seems to be the only thing going for it. Might as well have been anything, little do to do with Nemo.

I thought I would hate this, but I actually kind of love it. Love the kid. She feels real. And while it took at second to get use to whatever Jason is doing here, I started to dig his Howie Mandel in Little Monsters thing. Which is what this feels like a remake of. Little Monsters.

I‘ll watch it on Friday. Just one question (to not get disappointed): is there a villain like the Nightmare King from the animated movie?

This was so beautiful and heartwarming. Though the effects were bad at times, it’s the best Netflix movie I’ve seen in a long time.
Very underrated gem

yes, caught this the other day... you could easily see the little Nemo influence

it was well done for what it was, and had a story to tell
