Live-action Cowboy Bebop coming to the big screen courtesy of....

i'll repeat what i previously said about Keanu...

...he needs to get back in touch with his inner Ted.

If FOX manages to get a really good director, someone with a vision, fresh and not willing to scratch the movie, there is still hope for the studio. I mean, they had a CRAP year in 2008, they would not want to repeat the mistakes.

Well, Keanu is Spike. It is done and the anime producers are fine with him. Now I am thinking: Jet? Faye? Ed? And who could play VICIOUS!

Do you think they will get an asian director like they did for dragonball or some american/european? Maybe they will get the guy who directed A scanner darkly afterall the same producer and lead is attached to this movie.

I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being The Wachowskis.

Well, Keanu said they will focuse on the arc about the Red Eye. As for the director, I don't know DBZ, A Scanner Darkly was directed by Richard Linklater, no chances he would take a movie like this one, he works in more serious, small scale movies. It would be good to get a director from Asia, someone fresh. Wachowski would be great at visuals, but would they work for FOX? They wouldn't allow any interference over their work (but hiring them would be a great step for the studio, let me say).

Whoever gets chosen as director should have a great appreciation for Blade Runner

I have a feeling people will hate any of the other casts cuz they the harder characters to cast.

You've got somebody better in mind? And just saying who you don't want as opposed to giving alternatives don't count. :o

It's not about being necessarily better. But to say it 'HAS to be Ricci' isn't thinking outside of the box. I think someone like Olga Kurylenko would make for a good Faye imo.

even after Speed Racer, they're very loyal to Warner Bros.

True.
Like you said .. even after Speed Racer they're still loyal to WB. And why not. WB has given them quite alot of freedom with their projects. Did it always work out ? Nope. But it doesn't change the fact that the Wachowski's have a good relationship with WB.

And i think that this may be a factor in them not winding up directed Cowboy Bebob. For starters the project is up at Fox.
We all know what kind of rep. Fox has with commercial projects. As far as i know , i've seen two Keanu movies that have been made at Fox. Street KIngs and The Day The Earth Stood Still. Street KIngs was surprisingly fun but i was disappointed with The Day THe Earth Stood Still.
So it's really a question of just how much freedom Fox will give to the director of Cowboy Bebob.

It's pretty much guarenteed that the movie will be PG-13 . Let's face it , this is Fox. :oldrazz: If this project were up at the WB , there might have been a chance that we would see this as an R rated feature.
Despite that i think they can faithfully make a Cowbow Bebob movie with all the action. Movies like Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace have shown that you can have pretty brutal action and still maintain a Pg-13 rating.

I also have a question. Didn''t the MPAA say that any future movie that has the actors smoking in it , will automatically be R rated. I could've sworn i read that the somewhere.
So i guess we won't be seeing Keanu smoking then :oldrazz:

The movie doesn't need to be rated R to be violent or good. It is possible todo that with a PG-13 rating. But FOX NEEDS to let the creative team free to develop the project, that's my main worry.

And, how about Hiroyuki Sanada as Vicious? Just imagine a big sword battle scene with him and Keanu?
:wow:

Fox and Keanu are getting ready to ******** my favorite anime. I'm afraid!

Damn you Tom Rothman. Damn you to hell.

It's 20th Century Fox.

I wouldn't trust them with my worst enemy.

Keanu Reeves, a guy pushing 50 playing a 27 year old Spike. I'm absolutely sick.

Ahhh if every man pushing 50 could look like Keanu Reeves... Spike better be wise, Keanu looks younger than the cartoon. :cwink:

Sorry guys, I know you don't like it, but the girls have the right to enjoy the pretty things God gave us! :woot:

Keanue doesn't look like 45 at all. I could play Spike in his early to mid 30s. Johnny Depp looks like a baby too. I don't age really matters since Spike is depicted as. more adult like anyway. Not to defend the movie at this point. I still don't trust Fox OR Keanu, but you keep on mentioning the age issue. I think there's bigger problems here then Reeves' age.

Holy crap. He really looks like Spike in this picture. :wow:

I hope his acting in the movie will match with the picture ...

I personally think Keanu as Spike isn't the biggest problem with adapting Bebop. How are you going to do characters like Edward Wong Hau Pepelu Tivrusky IV, Jet Black and Faye justice in one film when you have to tell the Spike/Vicious/Julia story. Each character has an important backstory that is pivotal to that characters development. Are they even going to include Faye Valentine's colorful history or just going to gloss over the fact she is the hottest senior citizen ever?

Unless they are planning a trilogy or franchise I see huge disappointment in the future.

OdGom, you are right. It is too much content and good characters to explore for a single movie. Two movies would be just right (hope FOX had balls to bank it, giving freedom to the creators to bring a kick ass story. First movie, presenting all characters and exploring his adventures as bounty hunters. Second movie, focusing in the Spike/Vicious/Julia story and final battle, keeping THAT end).

A bit of trivia:

Shinichiro Watanabe ( Cowboy Bebop) directed two episodes of Animatrix: A detective Story and The Kid, the latter originally voiced by Keanu Reeves himself .

I'll hope you mean Tom Rothman. Tim Roth's a-ok.:o

Ha! Forgive. My post was written in a fit or rage. Of course I meant Rothman. Tim Roth is great. Loved him in Rob Roy and Rosencranzt & Guildenstern Are Dead.

There's a reason why I love the guys behind the Cowboy Bebop anime: They love culture, including POP.

I knew that Spike was based on a young Bob Dylan:

But I didn't realize that his name was inspired by Where the Wild Things Are/Adaptation director Spike Jonze, whose real name is Adam Spiegal. Wow

As somewhat of a bebop fan

i'd be down with keanu as spike

but it's FOX/Tom Rothman's Involvment that worries me
considering what has been shown of DBZ
