Most of us did, it was perfect summer enterntainment. My fav for the year.

OMG !

Based on the teasers/trailers, I expressed my negativity about the film in these pages a while ago.
But after reading stuff from "it's not that bad" to "it's actually pretty good", I gave it a try (ok, my friends made me) well, my first impression was correct !

The film is really bad because it has a weak and silly story and a big poseur of a film maker (Underworld, uuugh) : it didn't feel like a Die Hard film, the character Willis played didn't feel like John McClane either.
Justin Long was ok, the fight with Maggie Q also (until the stupid crazy finish) but that was it.
The film also suffered a "24 wannabe" crisis and Lucy had "Kim Bauer" written all over her...

Really bad, a real pain for a Die Hard fan ; if you enjoyed it, good for you...

Your not a Die Hard fan your a Die Hard with a vengence fan. Live Free was way more of a Die Hard movie that with a vengence was.

I was watching DHWAV and the writers did a good job on the elevator scene. The bad guy that was one of the security guards said it was raining "dogs and cats", and the called the elevator a lift.

Your not a Die Hard fan your a Die Hard with a vengence fan. Live Free was way more of a Die Hard movie that with a vengence was.

damn straight. I even agree with your rankings. Why everyone thinks LFODH is a good movie is beyond me.

I thought it was a damn good movie and I understand Justin's character is supposed to be a *****, but damn they kind of overplayed it for me. I don't know how I would rank this with other Die Hard films, I like them all equally. Maybe I'd put DHWAV just above this one, if only because Zeus is a better partner then Justing Long.

I have a feeling theirs gonna be a number 5. The Hollywood Reporter article made it clear that FOX was looking for the next big moneymaker and mentioned that Live Free or Die Hard was a "suprise success". Combine that with Bruce saying he would do a fifth one if Wiseman returns I think well be getting a DIE HARD 5.

And why not? If the fourth film in the series is being generally considered the best one since the original then they must be doing something right. And it's been a long time since word of mouth has helped a FOX film.

Plus I mean Dirty Harry got 5 films, why not McCLANE?

I'm up for a 5th one. I'd hope Zeus would return if it's in New York.

I remember that one! It was another script they tried to retool into a Die Hard movie. Lucy was going to be a scientist in this underwater lab community. She invites dad to come down and see how she works, problems start to occur. The lab is attacked by terrorists who want these genetic samples of rare sea life, the lab starts to flood...

Sound(ed)s like a Jaws 3 rip-off.

I'm gonna see LFODH soon.

No. He can probably understand French, and the French can probably understand English. Olyphant's character worked in the intelligence community, he probably learned French because it's one of the most widely spoken languages in the world.

And I also don't get the problem some people seem to have with DH3 ?!
McTiernan did a great job, the film was fast paced from the start and never betrayed the character (and the addition of Sam Jackson was brilliant, on par with the hero) !
The villains were all superhuman for crying out loud, making the Maggie Q car scene the most UN-Die Hard moment ever.

Let me remind you what kind of character John McClane : "Motherf****r! I'm gonna kill you! Then I'm gonna *****'n cook ya! Then I'm gonna *****'n eat ya! " t:

And I'm not a DH fan, duh ? I didn't get fooled by an half-assed True Lies 2 !

I must also add that being in France and seeing the film dubbed, we had the full "Yippee ka yay" line and general cursing : it's still felt like a bad film and not a DH film by any means.

This movie is gonna almost reach 100 million domestically this weekend....and I think it will have a over all 130 mill in the end here. So it looks like it will be the biggest diehard movie. Though with inflation...The other diehards still made more. Still....not bad for this franchise.

Ummm...remember Karl. He was hung by the neck in chains and yet somehow managed to come back to try and kill McClane by the first movie's end. So Maggie Q surviviving being hit by a car is not beyond the scope of being believable.
