Logan Logan spoiler thread discussion

But the thing is when he woke up in 2023 he had no memory of what happened in the new timeline leading up to that point, only the previous timeline.

So it would be the new timeline Wolverine that went there not knowing about any of those events.
Doesn't matter if he doesn't know what specifically happened. All that he needs to know is that he was in Japan again for some manner. The sword says that.

But then without jean being killed things probably would have been very different.

Well I don't think he necessarily needed to have travelled to Japan at the exact point as he did in the original timeline. He could have woken up in 2023, seen how good things were with the X-Men and then decided to go to Japan. Mariko and Yukio were very important people to him, and in a restored timeline I'm sure he'd want to go and reconnect with them.

Really, all that sword is a reference to is Logan's connection with Japan. Whether or not the same events happened in the timeline, he personally still remembers everything that happened, so the sword is an acknowledgment of that.

Well from Logans perspective, the one who woke up in 2023 remembering only the original timeline he won't know if any of that happened in the new timeline because it would have happened before he woke up in the new timeline.

As for the sword... did he take it with him? i can't remember if he took it with him in the wolverine and obviously its hard to predict something like that in the new timeline

Yeah, exactly. The Logan that wakes up in 2023 won't know what happened before. Why would he need to know what specifically happened? He wakes up, sees a samurai sword. Pieces together that he went to Japan at some point in time in the new timeline before his consciousness returned from 1983 which is why he has it. Not that hard to understand.

My theory:

Timeline Sigma Xavier absorbed the memories of Timeline Sigma Wolverine one year before 2023. Xavier knew the Timeline Prime B Wolvie was "coming back" to take over the body.

I think Wolverine has memories from both the timelines through Xavier? Could be.

You know, I missed the tease in the first trailer of the Wolverine clone, so when he first appeared in the house and killed Professor X, I was completely taken aback until I realised it wasn't the real Logan.

I do not believe so. Thing is I hated the adamantium bullet in Origins, but liked it here. It would be even better if we didn't all think about Origins when we first see it.

But considering First Class ignored Origins when introducing Emma Frost, and then again when Charles got paralyzed at the end, and then Apocalypse also ignored it by giving Cyclops a different origin for coming to Xavier's mansion, as well as for Logan's amnesia and berserker being closer to how X2 presented it...

Yeah, I suggest not thinking too closely about it and just trying to enjoy yourself. That goes for you all too.

I think Fox has even given up trying to connect all the timelines. For the type of stand-alone and self-contained story Logan was, it didn't really matter.

This. Absolutely. I think Xavier helped him restore memories from the new timeline. I also believe that the events of X1 still happend in the new timeline, hence why Logan and Charles talk about it.

Not too sure about it... Magneto changed at the end of "Apocalypse". Or so I think.

You have to remember, Charles mentioned the Statue of Liberty but it was only Logan who assumed he referred to the events of X1. The motel where Logan meets Laura had a Statue of Liberty sign, so that was probably what Charles was trying to tell him.

Don't forget Chuck has memories from both the timelines. And his mind is seriously sick.

I actually never caught a tease of a Wolverine clone other than X-23 in any of the trailers...could you kindly point it out to me? lol And yea I was taken aback too I was like why does Logan suddenly look 20 years younger and kinda resemble Liev Shreiber as Sabretooth lol.

Refer to the below link which is of the first trailer, and forward to 1:29 in the clip.

That moment in the trailer is from Logan and the clone's fight outside the house shortly after it killed Charles.

LMAO, for a few moments I thought the clone was Schreiber's Sabretooth as well!

I wonder if it's implied anywhere in the film if Jean Gray was killed as well by Charles' lack of control due to his seizures, since her powers are comparable to his and of course much more powerful when she's reincarnated as Dark Phoenix.

O damn I dont know how I didnt catch that...I think I've always remembered seeing that image of Wolverine blocking another set of claws but it never processed in my brain that it could be a clone lol. Thanks.

I think when that (incredible) trailer came out, we all assumed it was Laura he was fighting in that shot.

Yeah, I probably thought that when I first saw the trailer after it was released, and then completely forgot about it. It made the appearance of the clone and what it did much more shocking!!

I loved how quickly Logan killed Price. No long speeches. No multiple death scenes like with Stryker in X-2.

In the final film, the Westchester incident, and the more than 600 people (including some X-Men) killed or injured, is mentioned in the background on a radio news program, where it is overtly compared to the devastation that occurs in the Oklahoma casino in the film.

Wow.
