I don't agree with that being a cop-out. They weren't building to a "superbattle." they were building to a confrontation between Clark and Zod. instead of giving us a half second super battle, they decided to give us a legitimate fight. One of the best of the series.
it was the best fight of the series, hands down. It was also the most creative conclusion to a season that SV has produced. A confrontation with Zod includes powers IMO. What is the point otherwise? I mean honestly, why Zod, if there was to be no 'super-confrontation'. Why not save even more budget, and make the character not Zod, to save on royalty/use of name etc. Why not just create some generic villain for Clark to chase around, who doesn't have powers?
why even waste the budget on giving the kandorians powers, if they weren't going to do anything with it? And they literally did nothing with it, except a piss poor montage of useless burning historical sites (the great wall of china, the acropolis, gimme a break why would anyone attack these, other than being heritage sites, they are not important in anyway shape or form).
it is also a superman show, to bring the season to climax, without super powers is a cop out for me. It just shows me that instead of planning ahead, by reducing the f/x budget for the episodes leading up to the finale, that they just decided it would be cheaper to go another route. It's like ending a batman movie, with Bruce wayne out of costume at teh climax of the film. Or an IronMan movie, with Tony Stark not wearing the suit at the climax of the film. Or a starwars movie that doesn't take place in space. Or how about Skycaptain and the world of BS (who makes a movie about a crack pilot, who only flies in the movie for the first 30s).
I'd totally be in agreement with what they did, if it
wasn't a season finale, but a mid season one.
it was even more dissappointing after the earlier flash forward episode this season. Where when Zod and Clark confronted each other, one, or the other, had powers, but not both. Why even provide a tease of what could happen, when they don't deliver in the end anyways.
yes, the best fight in Smallville EVER... but it's a bloody superman show... it would be nice to see Clark in a fight, with his powers, where he actually fights more than one punch. The bizarro fight was 90% implied by viewing the supporting characters deal with the tremors of the battle. The titan fight was only slightly better than that.... and every other fight Clark has had, with powers, has actually turned out to be more of a beating than a fight.
