Justice League Lounge of Justice - Part 81

The criticism a lot of people have about this hiring is less about Gunn's ability to create a good movie or whether his version of SS can be successful (though there are those who do question Gunn's abilities), but more about the fact that they hired a guy who recently got fired due to a crap ton of tweets related to pedophilia and rape. This makes a lot of fans feel uncomfortable and that's why I see a lot of people criticizing WB today. They see this as WB being tone deaf once again.

Me, personally, I'm just numb at this point with the DCEU so, I'm like, "Whatever, man. You all are gonna do what you are gonna do anyway."

Right, but my point is that those people’s feelings are not reflective of the larger narrative around Gunn. People don’t like Gunn, so they’re calling this incompetent. That’s completely ignoring the reality of the situation.

There’s nothing incompetent about hiring a proven talent with both critics and at the box office who has the very public adoration of everyone that knows him personally and an incredibly vocal base of supporters. In particular when their worst offenses have been some bad jokes.

David Ayer posted a response in support of Gunn's hiring.

I think people are calling WB incompetent because they feel they are being tone deaf in this case.

Eh, this is a great move by DC, IF he also directs. Ironically, my earlier point about this being seen as some lame sports analogy, one of them bald dudes from Collider did that in the recent vid.

Wasn’t much of a foundation to begin with

Ayer is a class act about it though, good on him.

Also, why even enlist Gunn if he’s not directing, not worth the headache if he isn’t also directing either.

But that implies that to strike the right time, they should not have hired him. I don’t see any reason to accept that as the case, especially when most people didn’t agree with his firing in the first place.

WB needs good scripts as much as they need good directors. If this opens up the door to getting Gunn to direct something, then it makes sense even if it means playing the long game.

A good script is harder to obtain than a good director, going by the whole how often do bad movies have good scripts?

And many people did agree with it. Look, I'm not arguing for what I want here. Like i said, earlier, I'm numb with the DCEU right now and I don't trust their decision making process. But I do recognize that a lot of people did not want Gunn to stay on with Disney. Was that 30%, 50%, 20%? I don't know, but it wasn't a small contingent. So I am merely stating that people are pointing out that WB typically finds a way to get themselves bad press. If WB had been running things well from the get-go, I think the response to picking up Gunn would be met with a different reaction. I think a lot more people would have the mindset of trusting the process.

The way I see it, it's just bad optics. WB going on about how progressive they are, especially in light of their recent deal with MBJ and his production company, then they hire a guy who was recently fired for making pedo jokes. I never presumed Gunn would never work in Hollywood again or anything of sorts, but Marvel's main competition to hire him two months after he was fired? Makes them look kind of bad, man.

Imagine actually thinking that making horrible jokes is somehow equivalent to pedophilia and rape.

Good for WB. I hope Gunn wildly succeeds with SS 2 just so Disney knows how bad they dumped the bed on that one.
I would have to because next step = FURTHER down the gutter

Dont quote me if you cannot read my entire post and skip the words.

All this talk about bad press, but where is it? I’m just seeing folks complaining here.

Awful idea, I was looking forward to Gavin’s take so much.

Gunn cuts out the emotional moments with lame jokes and trashed the crap out of Mantis.

Guess they need to make SS “edgy”
I liked his Nebula a lot.

Yeah with that news that is where I am at.

Everyone keeps mentioning him for Bane and I'm very with it. I have really enjoyed watching him evolve as an actor.
