Justice League Lounge of Justice - Part 84

I am not a big fan of the Green Lanterns but I am starting to feel bad for them.

It is what it is. For the longest time Aquaman was the joke of superheroes, now he's a badass, so people need another schmuck to make fun of and both the actor who played him and the studio that destroyed him seem to agree, hence we have a new laughing stock now.

I think GL is in that Superman position in which they gotta get it absolutely right next time, or else peace out to ANY future films down the road. In a way, I feel like Aquaman doing great at the box office will give you GL fans another shot soon imo. WB/DC needs to go into space again, fam. lol

Well, at least Zack gave us a cool shot of a GL, even briefly.

Aquaman's success will hopefully give WB some confidence to back their non Supes-Bats characters. If GLC gets done right I think it would be one of the biggest DCEU films they could make.

Some time ago you would've made fun of my Green Lantern frustrations, now you're actually consoling me. What is this place turning into. :funny:

It's funny because people always say Guardians of the Galaxy inspired Suicide Squad, when it should've inspired them to do GL again. The "funny guy space pilot amongst aliens" thing clearly worked there.

Breh, you use to act like a scorned wife when it came to Hal. Every now and then I needed to comb your toupee to the side and pimp slap it off, outta love. You're a better hype poster cause of it now. :o

A guy who can create anything with a ring is my jam.

Exactly. (With SS I think it's more that people say that the film changed tone to be more like GotG rather than that it was inspired by or greenlit because of GotG)

The MCU is apparently going to go more cosmic going forward, so I hope successes there can convince the WB execs that there is a killing to be made with GLC if they play it right.

It's funny to think of how in 2011 they were really priming Green Lantern to be their next big thing. I remember the hype and how this was gonna be the next breakout superhero franchise. And then....

At least we'll always have Justice League and Brave and the Bold, I guess.

Not to mention this Aquaman flick and them DC streaming shows is giving Geoff some legit clout. GL shall rise again.

Yup I think the Aquaman success is definitely gonna give some more clout to that, especially given how heavily it was drawn from his run.

Legends of Tomorrow is such, such a silly show, as frustrating as it is endearing...

Particularly whenever you remember the characters' backstories, where they come from, what they've been through...I mean, so god damned silly!!!

And yet, they continuously make me smile; the writing is terrible, the character's decisions beyond stupid, they constantly and repeatedly forget that they do have superpowers and the performances go from "a little hammy" to "HAM OVER 9000!!!"...and yet, they make me smile.

I don't think the show is "good" by any possible metric...and yet, they make me smile, and that assured, easy going, non-challenging entertainment is what keeps me coming back, and that should tell you everything about how the entertainment-consumer relationship works; it doesn't need to be good or well thought out, it just needs to make you smile.

But for Beebo's sake, give my man Ray Palmer one, just one badass moment??! Ok, I get it, he's the wholesome big hearted swell guy which, to be perfectly honest, is kinda refreshing in an age of gritty conflicted antiheroes or tragic heroes....but come on!! Guy's supposed to be a genius and has one of the most - allegedly - badass weapons in the Arrowverse, can he stop being THE goofball for a second and have just one badass moment??! :argh:

Now *sigh*....onto the next episode....

Yeah, but they know their tone. They lean into it.

I totally agree with you on Ray. I feel like they gave some of Ray's character moments to Hank. I remember that scene where Ray stood up to Brick in Arrow. That was cool. But now they've made Ray so goofy that, while I still love the character (because it's Brandon Routh), I just wish they found a better balance for him.

The one real positive with Aquaman doing well is that WB will be able to see that it is worth it to keep trying as whatever box office disappointments they rack up, the crazy Marvel money will still be attainable with future well-received efforts. Superhero fatigue is not happening. In fact momentum is building with the likes of Aquaman and a half-assed Venom doing big bucks (not to mention BP blasting way past a billion and IW past 2B). There are some significant overseas markets that are still growing fast where CBMs are very popular.

Venom proves way too much. Novelty and enjoyment goes a long damn way. Keep your issh easy to follow and make the audience feel like this is the first time in forever. Oh...and that also proves the GL zany effects are possible.

Yep. Audiences want variety and while they are very much up for seeing the big guns again, they also want a steady stream of new characters that are different to what came before (as Venom and Aquaman (on home turf) very much are).

With Facebook spying on us and phone companies too, and now netflix took a peek behind our curtains. I go back to Alex Garland's Ex Machina:

Caleb: You hacked the world's cell phones?

Nathan: Yeah. And all the manufacturers knew I was doing it, too. But they couldn't accuse me without admitting they were doing it themselves.

speaking of...
@KalvinEllis, did you see Venom yet and what'd ya think?
I really do mean it when I said this made me think of what a GL movie could be possible of.

How does one go about making Will Smith not cool?
