Jason's bodyguards are back lol

Why does he even need bodyguards lol, look at him

This lounge has shown me that there are more fans of Hal Jordan than the handful of people I was led to believe. Thank you all.

I think one of the best aspects of Hal Jordan's character is that he's such an elegantly simple archetype, the superhero space cop, that you can slot him into almost any kind of story and he'll work because the guy isn't fazed by anything. Whatever you throw at him, he'll dive in and get the job done.

It's kind of both a throwback and radical, because mainstream superhero fiction doesn't really do that anymore, where the focus now tends to be so squarely on examining the psychology of the main character. That's not really the case here, Hal Jordan isn't the type of hero who's riddled with self-doubt or haunted by past trauma. And the best part is that doesn't make him without depth, since there's something unique about putting someone who's seen and done things beyond comprehension, in increasingly complex situations and see how he'll respond to them. That's what Grant Morrison has been doing in his current GL run.

Is he relevant now ? Because a space cop who was a fighter jet pilot, who can fly and shoot photon blasts is what people associate with Captain Marvel and her movie had already made Billion+ and audience approval whereas earlier Green Lantern movie bombed.

If Aquaman and Black Panther can both be relevant with all their similarities, I don't see why Hal and Carol can't. Not to mention all the adaptations about billionaire playboy heroes.

I'm pretty sure the failure of the first movie was why the reboot was conceived as a buddy cop movie instead. I remember when there was this whole huge push for the character leading up to 2011 that kinda just fizzled out, alas. Which sucked because the TV show had potential, but never got a second season.

It would've been kinda funny if they'd gotten a Batfleck cameo in Aquaman like two weeks before it became official he was out.

That's very general and broad way of comparing the two franchises (Batman & IM, both are billionaire playboys, BP & AM both are royal heirs with brother as antagonist, which is also seen in Lion King) , whereas in case of GL and CM, people will be comparing them directly as both have similar origin story , powers, superhero duties and space corps.

It's usually that Aquaman gets the inevitable Thor comparison, which would be lazy thinking, in my book.

Yeah, people do like to compare even when there are only superficial similarities, Aquaman has been compared with Thor and Black Panther.

All of those comparisons tend to be about generalizing. Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark have nothing in common as characters other than being womanizers who use their wealth to build themselves high-tech toys. The same way Hal Jordan and Carol Danvers are not the same characters just because they used to be pilots that became space heroes. I think Hal and the GLC are more similar to Richard Ryder and the Nova Corps, than to Carol Danvers and the Starforce. In any event, I don't understand why should any similarities between Hal and Carol be seen as detrimental to Hal. The biggest thing that works against that character is the incompetence of the studio that owns him and how they seem to blame the failure of the previous Green Lantern movie on the featured character and not on themselves. I don't know if I can trust that a studio with this kind of mindset can do a good Green Lantern movie or at least a good Hal Jordan portrayal when they don't seem to think much of the character. So the few similarities he happens to share with another character are probably the least of my worries about whatever future the Hal Jordan character has in store.

Green Lantern Corps is going to be a buddy cop movie anyway, which automatically gives it some degree of differentiation. But if people like the end product I don't think the similarity matters for the most part. That's the most important bit rn.

it don't matter, GL did it first on big screen:yay:

Just rewatched Batman 89 and realized that between Nicholson, Ledger and Leto, the former is my least favorite cinematic Joker (I love all of them, I just love Jack the least).

The movie will always have a very special place in my heart (is the very first movie I remember watching in the cinema and one of the few memories I have of my dad before he died) as being one of the things that cemented my life-long Bat-obsession, but man, those type of Burton-ey "dark fantasies" wouldn't really survive modern criticism and scrutiny (this gotta be the most inept version of Gotham PD ever; they're literally just watching while people are being murdered and not for a second try to stop it)... so I guess it's a good thing that it was made when it was and that it exists there :D

But for the life of me, I don't care how much people love the "wanna get nuts??!!" bit, it doesn't make an iota of sense; what was Bruce's move there?? What was the purpose of it at all??

Doesn't matter, don't think too hard about it, I guess. Still love that mass-murdering Batso.

The Space Corps things are immediately set apart by virtue of the CM one
actually being a terrorist organization.
I think GLC could be fine.

Also, I launched my own entertainment news website yesterday, which is why my activity has been pretty minimal here lately. It's been a big undertaking/labor of love for me. It's called Bleekly and the link is also in my sig if you guys ever want to check it out.

The whole project is mine from the functionality/design of the website to the content you'll see flowing through. So I'll do my best to stay up to date with everything. One big thing I want to call out, I'm not a scooper and won't be stepping foot in that world. It's just not my thing and not the purpose of the site.

So yeah, give it a look if you have the time and if you like what you see, follow the site on IG and Twitter (@bleekly_ for both). Hope I can catch you guys there!
