Lounge of Justice - Part 90

On an unrelated note, why are so many people trying to make The Witcher happen? The hype around it feels so unnatural.

Let's not forget the game series. Heck, W3 broke a record on Steam over the holidays.

Eh, The Witcher series is like the jerry springer of that type of show. You watch with one hand down your pants and ignore the trash, a simple somewhat fun watch.

It's not that dramatic. One is coming right this year, so...

Just finished dark Phoenix...not nearly as bad as advertised. Could have used 30 more minutes probably. Actually enjoyed it, but then again I have a major soft spot for McAvoy and Fassbender in those roles.

The books became NYT best sellers too. Everything Witcher related has blown up

I'm trying to think of another property with this kind of multi media synergy? Show comes out and the already incredibly popular Witcher 3 sells more than it originally did, the first book is on the best sellers list.

There are some properties that might have great success in 2 areas feeding into each other (LOTR, Harry Potter, etc), but 3? I don't think Shadow of Mordor drove people to the books and it's really not a main LOTR game and nobody confuses it for the real thing (despite being good). But with The Witcher you have people whose first experience is with the books, whose first experience is with the games, especially Witcher 3 (like me, and it's the best game I've ever played), and now people whose first experience is the show which was really popular even in its clunkier first season, which to me means it should only get easier to click with the audience in S2. So it's driving people from one of the sources to check out the others if they haven't already.

I haven't seen anything like this that I can recall. This is definitely the best case scenario for the show writers and Netflix.

Well one could argue certain Disney properties have that - when Star Wars returned, it had high-selling comics and books, video games, cartoons, etc. Comic-based IP's have seen boosts across different media as well. Back when Goldeneye came out and Bond saw a popularity resurgence, there was a massively successful videogame and I'm guessing the Fleming books probably got a boost too. But I think what's unique about The Witcher is that all these different media (books, show, games) are owned by different people, and none of these things were made for synergy purposes or to help promote the others in any way. It's not some push by one corporate overlord that's making it happen, which is very unusual indeed.

With any luck, Dune might see a similar boost soon.

A new animated Justice League is coming out that is not attached to the current crop of animated mediocrity?
F***ing Snyder's Justice League, bro!!! :D: With the proper un-cringy majestic badass Superman. :ilv:
