Lounge of Justice - Part 90

watched spiderman: no way home.

some thoughts:

- it hit alot of nostalgia and fan service marks, maybe a few times bordering on empty cinematic calories. but imo it’s mostly done right and i had a fun time watching this.

- will be interesting to see how flashpoint compares to this since that film’s trying to play into that nostalgia game too.

- i will probably need to watch this again sometime since this was lot to absorb in one sitting.

now more spoilery thoughts:
- i was fine with most of the plot but peter and company at times made some foolish choices that endangered themselves - which was all
designed to get the plot moving like those contrived horror movie cliches when someone does something stupid.

- the filmmakers here wisely got rid of green goblin’s mask early on in the movie because they finally realized no mask or prosthetic can ever be as scary as willem dafoe’s own face :funny:

- if anything, this made me miss tobey’s and andrew’s spidermans more.
especially andrew’s, who’s still my fave actor to put on the suit.
watching him play peter here again made me wish even more they had made TASM 3.

- bringing it back to garfield, the movie felt like a bit of a meta narrative with how his spiderman at one point refers to himself as “lame” - because his movies aren’t widely loved as much as maguire’s and holland’s.
but maguire tells him he’s amazing, which felt like marvel studios and fans at large giving andrew affirmation that he was/is a great spiderman.
i thought that was heartfelt.

- the banter between the 3 spidermans here was the best part of the movie.

- i find it hilarious with how the end rewrites things and puts holland’s peter back to square one so that either sony or disney can make more spiderman movies and essentially start from scratch again.
still not sure how i feel about this.
creative? sure, but also makes it feel
like everything that occured with peter in the previous mcu movies didn’t matter now.

- i dig that new home-made suit he
makes at the end. just the beautiful simplicity of it.

right now, 8 out of 10 for me.
though it might go up with subsequent rewatches.

I haven't even watched any of Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies, can I just watch this one and ignore the first two movies? :funny:

Why not everyone else does including Marvel ;):o:o:o

B&R is still the only Batman movie to feature Bat-family on screen.

Watched Jeremy Jahns' Top 10 of 2021...wasnt expecting ZSJL to be his #1! Thats pretty rad.

Its gonna be a long cold winter...but come March what a way to celebrate Spring and my upcoming birthday!

That is a trailer above all trailers. As I said in the Batman thread I saw trailers for Batman films going back to '89. This tops all of them! If the film delivers on the promise of that trailer this could be beyond special!

you can, haha.
but u get more enjoyment / engagement out of it if you've watched the previous 2 movies.
the mcu trap. force you to watch every movie so u'll know what's going on in the current one. :funny:

there's lot of references to the tobey and garfield movies, of course.

Let's goooooooo!

prolly need to go dark soon.
i was already hyped for this, but this is getting close to spoilery.

but holy cow, this movie is looking so good.

the previous trailer played in front of spiderman when i went to watch and it was cool seeing it on the big screen.
seeing the poster in the lobby too was cool.
such a beauty.

i feel we are getting something really special with reeve's batman.

didn't think i'd be more hyped for more batman after so many iterations, but here we are.

first time i been in the theater in 2 years as well.

2 trailers in 2 months for Batman

Remember when we had to wait almost a year in between Shazam trailers?

Flash is gonna get flattened worse than Hellboy

I really enjoyed Matrix: Resurrections. I don't care what anyone says it is a very solid film. It is probably my second favorite now behind the original.

Matrix Resurrection reads way better in script form than it does on the screen. I mean, goddamn. Better than the third one I suppose. Also, Chad doin' his bit of acting work this time better not be the goddamn reason as to why John Wick 4 got moved back a year. lawd.

To each their own. I liked the updates and I like how relevant it was to today. I also liked the new Matrix, The Analyst and the way the world changed after the war ended. I would love to see a film about that!

Hellboy couldn't even recoup a 50 million budget. Flash could bomb and there's still no way so few people would see it that it'd do worse than 55 million. It'd have to be a failure of utterly legendary proportions to even come close.

For context, even an utter dud like the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern at least cleared 200 million.

The Snyder Bros are having a moment on Twitter. Some were trying to convince the world Snyder is a genius because he adapted Watchmen. They shut up when I pointed out how it basically bombed in the States and barely made its budget back.

I liked his version of Watchmen but I still prefer the comic.

Speaking of Snyder, he's released concept art for Rebel Moon:

IMO, you’d be on firmer ground by citing contemporaneous critical consensus and/or retrospective re-evaluation. But box office as a gauge of artistic success is more… problematic. :ebr: Just to take another example: Blade Runner 2049 is quite highly regarded. And it lost money. The latter fact, however, doesn’t really impugn the former.
