Emily VanCamp Lands Lead Role

I am quite on board with this.

I consistently cringe at the dialogue in that show.

never heard of it. what kind of role does she play in that series and what is it about?

Wikipedia is your friend. :cwink:

It's a little like the Count of Monte Cristo or Arrow, but also a bit soapish, and obviously not a superhero show. She's the main character coming back to her home town after many years where she's not recognised by any of the people who wronged her. Basically she's out to get revenge on them all and to clear her father's name, and masterminds various events to get her way. There's a bit of action every now and then, and lots of plotting, conspiring, deception and intrigue.

Probably getting ahead of myself, but being that her series is on ABC and produced by ABC studios, I wonder if her ever making a guest appearance or two on SHIELD would be out of the question...

Maybe getting ahead here too, but I hope she even shows up on Avengers 2 as well (along with the SHIELD show cast), even if she's just on the SHIELD helicarrier.

I like her, but I find this quite disappointing, especially with the names flying around.

Getting it out the way, Van Camp is hot as a mofo.

Regarding her ability, she can do this. Watch Revenge on ABC, like a full episode. That's all you need to do.

I watched the first full season. She isn't exactly great, not that the writing is, but we will see.

She might not be playing Sharon Carter though. If you notice her filmography, several of the characters she's played before are named Emily. :hehe: Maybe it will be the same again here.

She was terrific on Everwood. She has a lot of acting talent; Revenge was a rather unusual role for her at the time she was cast.

I will say, though, she won't have to go through months and months of training. Emanda is a *very* physically challenging role.

Also, she looks the very picture of Sharon Carter.

But still, I'll be weeping in my corner over no Alison Brie in the MCU. Yet.

(maybe for Jan Van Dyne?)

Brie would make an excellent Wasp. Much better than she would an Agent 13.

Anyone think that maybe Emily isn't playing Sharon or a love interest at all, but maybe Carol Danvers instead? It could tie in with these Latino Review clues we've been getting supposedly hinting at Ms Marvel.

I'm not happy or sad about this news. I liked her on Brothers and Sisters but I didn't believe her as a tough girl on Revenge's pilot episode. Still she is a decent actress and I like her better than the fanboy over-mentioned actress Mary Elizabeth Weinstead. An actress who is never going to break out because of her mediocre talent and screen presence. Yeah, yeah I'm sure she is a nice chick and all so this isn't a personal attack and it's not her fault she is fancast for every single role.

Kind of "meh" on this news. She's pretty but I've never seen her in anything so I can't make any judgment on her talent. Haley is a tough act to follow though.

Never watched revenge but saw the adverts so I recognise her, she is certainly pretty hot but no idea how her acting is so no reaction either way really. Will just see how it goes.

Emily VanCamp? Wow, it's like they looked at their list of candidates and thought, "nope, not boring enough." Oh well, maybe she'll surprise me.

I agree that Winstead is fancast for way too many roles, but she was fantastic in Smashed. Far from a mediocre talent, imo. If VanCamp has done anything approaching that level, I certainly haven't seen it.

Eh I stopped watching her films because I hear how good she is and always walk away wondering what her fans are talking about. I think she is decent and that's it, I respect others who disagree though. I mean not everyone is a fan of any actor. That post wasn't even a defense of Van Camp though because I can see her not being great in the film, she's not amazing either.

A little fun fact: One of the covers El Mayimbe posted the other day included an issue that featured the first appearance of Sharon.

Speaking of which, I wonder if Marvel will handle her intro the same way as the comics and have her as an undercover agent who's ordered to shoot and kill Cap?

Doesn't look any younger than Scar Jo to me...speaking of another actress I don't care for...

No, I'm just saying, I wasn't a fan of Winstead either...until I saw that movie. I mean, I still find the constant fancasting annoying, especially for roles like Mary Jane and Wonder Woman, which I still think she's all wrong for, but I think she would have been a much better choice for Sharon Carter (if that's even the role this is) than Emily Van Camp.

I'll have to give the movie a look then.

I'd definitely recommend it, and not just because of Winstead. Aaron Paul and Nick Offerman are great too (they were the main draw for me initially), and it's a very honest look at the part of alcoholism that they usually leave out of these types of stories - the part where, after you get sober, you find yourself as a new person stuck in the old life you made for yourself. I didn't find it too heavy or depressing to be entertaining, either.

They can't all be shakesperian.

But I think she would have been a much better choice for Sharon Carter (if that's even the role this is) than Emily Van Camp.

Marvel must have chosen her for a reason. I honestly can't see how MEW is a better choice. Visually speaking Emily is perfect for Sharon and I wouldn't say either has significantly more talent than the other.

Yeah, she's already part of the Disney/Marvel family. Synergy! :oldrazz:

Obviously I disagree, but to each their own.

The choice is fine with me since I had no one I wanted to see in the role. I agree with those who say VanCamp looks like Sharon from the comics, but then the same could be said of a lot of blonde actresses.

At least now the endless fan-casting and complaints over the wait for an announcement are over. Winstead, Brie and Blunt can now be put into the pool of prospective Jans, Gamoras and Carols. (None of them will land those roles, either.)
