The Amazing Spider-Man Lower Your Expectations Now

I don't get the comparisons to Wolverine. That was a spin off made to cash in on a dead franchise. This is a restart of Sony's biggest franchise ever. You guys really think they're going to do a half-assed job as if this was some cheap spin off?

no the comparison is gavin hood and marc webb

Gavin was an acclaimed indie director actually won an Oscar he came in to help revive the x men name after Ratner f'd it up

Both Wolverine and this film were only made possible by studio micro managing and meddling. And both were done to take the license in a new direction after a mediocre yet financially successful third film.

Sony wouldn't give creative freedom to a man that made them BILLIONS! Why would they for someone else? I don't expect them to. I expect this to be more like a point and shoot filmed movie, and we'll see the next ADD/FOX style comic book film with the Spider-Man name.
How much creative freedom is needed comes down to the script. If the new director sticks close to the script than there won't be much studio interference. Additionally if the script is good then the director has no reason to stray from the script.

If the reboot script is good and they hire a talented director then expectations should be high, not low.

the thing with raimi was he loved the comics and had part in writing the scripts and wanted certain things in his movie that is why he wanted more creative control.

Marc Webb not so much

and we dont know the script is good just because sony says so

But Wolverine was a half-assed attempt to cash in on a dead franchise. Nothing was left but to reuse the scraps of X-men 3.

This reboot is a fresh start. No scraps.

We don't know that it's bad, either.

lmao. Raimi said he liked Spider-man as a kid. He was far from a comic book geek.

Maybe Webb liked Spider-man as a kid too. Who knows?

Well, I think I heard that he was pretty heavy into Spider-Man as a kid. Had him painted on his bedroom wall, met John Romita, Sr. as a kid, etc.

A Wolverine prequel spin off had a million possibilites. It could have been a franchise all it's own. They didn't even have to acknowledge X3 or even the other films. It didn't even seem like they were going to considering how differently the film portrayed Stryker and Sabretooth.

And I'm willing to bet Fox wasn't willing to reboot because they didn't want to part with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Fox is rebooting all of their other Marvel franchises but Hugh guarantees they won't reboot X-Men anytime soon. Hugh is a big name and unlike Toby, he isn't loyal to a single director. If Toby and the others were willing to be a part of S4 without Raimi, we would probably be getting an S4.

"If history has taught me anything, especially with movies, we should all lower our expectations now."

I learned this years ago and its part of my arguement about why Im against the reboot, and has seriously altered my expectations where movies are concerned.

It actually first started with television. I watched as shows I loved got cancelled - Millennium, Deadwood(which broke my heart) and Carnivale for example. This is especially painful as I watch so little TV to begin with( I prefer to stick to movies, Discovery, History channels and the like)

And I said whats the point of watching these shows and investing in the characters if theyre just going to cancel (or reboot as we have now) them.

And while there have been some very high points in comic book films lately, there have been many more lows.

So they screw up and want to reboot everything - Daredevil, Fantastic Four, Xmen, etc.

At what point should I stop caring. Why shoudl I care i theyre just doing to screw these properties up?

My expectations for Iron Man are SO low.

Thor Im looking foward to becuase of whos involved.

Singer being attached to Xmen has me curious, but not much more. Im still pissed about the way the franchise was handled before. And even if we get a decent film or 2 - eventually all this stuff goes to crap.

Spiderman, Fantastic Four, Daredevil - I could care less.

I really wish these studios would lean some lessons from the likes of LOTR (which I dont actually care for , but the comparison is valid) or the Potter series.

Lower my expectations. For Spiderman, I have NONE. Because Sony is run by idiots. Just like Fox.

Theyd have to bring in a director I REALLY like for me to consider investing in the Spiderman franchise again.

they are low

it would be great if we got wowed though!

The thing about fanboys is they treat these movies like they should be the f***ing second coming of Jesus, so they more or less set themselves for disappointment, and why they blow their nitpicks incredibly out of proportion. I have an attachment to these characters as well, but at the end of the day, relax folks, it´s just a movie.

My expectations for SM4 with the Vulture (and possibly Vulturess) was already very low.. so there's basically no place to go but UP.

Same here. The Vulture just didn't interest me as the villain, and other story elements I heard about just sounded awful. Not to say with absolute certainty that the reboot will be better, but the prospect of a new creative team does interest me. For all their talk about wanting to make Spider-Man darker and grittier, I seriously doubt they'll take it as far as some people fear they will. To say nothing of the people who seem to want to believe that Spider-Man has never had any dark and gritty periods in his comic book history. If anything, The Dark Knight echoes things that were present in the Spider-Man comics. The hero, facing a villain he can't begin to comprehend, tries to save the love of his life and fails. "Death of Gwen Stacy", anyone? Not to mention the countless stories of crime bosses hiring major villains to kill Spider-Man. Hell, the Sin-Eater storyline was pretty gritty, if I recall.

But again, Sony can only take that dark and gritty approach so far, if they want to showcase Peter as a teen in high school.

Life is all mess up and learn and progress from that. Why can't Sony just look at what Chris Nolan i.e. really improved, incoporated many great elements, treated source material w/ respect, and just make the best possible Spider-Man film???

Maybe that's what they are doing.

you think sony think there previous sm films did not respect the material and were not good lol

they want a reboot because raimi would not budge and they know the money in the franchise

not because they want to honor the fans

I know what Ninjacarm is saying here- don't get your hopes too high in the sky.

In My perfect Spidey film the red and blues would be -exactly- the same as the Romita Sr version, meaning spandex, and Green goblin's costume would be exactly the same as in the comics too...

I know this sort of stuff is unrealistic, but I want the basics fixed this time-

1-It's not all about a girl, it's all about Peter Parker! And... (this is crucial) I want PP to be played by an actor who can convey the inner strength and magnetism that PP has on the comic page, and not come off as a ***** like Tobey did.
2-Spidey being a wise ass in battle
3-Mechanical Web shooters!!!!
4-Gwen being the main love interest, and if not and it's MJ again,- Getting MJ's character right this time!
5-The origin being fixed, Ben did not die in the city he got shot at home.
6-The girl's,- MJ/Gwen have got to be smokin

Someone who understands! And yes, real acting!

Yeah but he was a kid. Acting like he's currently a Spider-man fanboy is ridiculous.
