Which one was the best? Luke, who was the chosen one and ended up bringing balance to the force and the there's Anakin who was thought to be the chosen one, but turned to the dark side. Which one was your favorite lead in the entire Star Wars series?

I just watched the marathon yesterday, and for me I'd have to go with Anakin. Just to see him grow up and to see how he turned into Darth Vader, it fit perfectly. It was so cool, and a great performance by Hayden Christensen.

Who do you guys think was the best out of the two?

I agree with you actually. I loved how he went from the innocent boy on Tattoine to Darth Vader in Sith. I know people don't like the love aspect, but to me that's more Shakespearean- in Shakespeare love is often the main motive that effects us just like in life. It can drive us to be good or it can drive us to be horrible, sometimes the ladder.

So, yeah- Anakin and I could definitely relate to him the most and see myself possibly making the same choices if put in his position. We're not perfect, we act upon emotion and instinct.

The poor Anakin in Episode II automatically gives the title to Luke. Anakin is a whiny, irritating stalker in Episode II. I didn't even see shades of Vader in him. Just poor acting and writing. At least in Episode I I could forgive his annoyance cause he was a kid.

Though Anakin was done fairly well in Episode III.

Right on, that's totally how I saw it.

The prequel trilogy was honestly one of the worst written trilogies in film history. Only reason I could honestly make it through it was Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor.

Yeah I agree with you there. The only think I liked about the prequels was that we got Vader's bac story, Darth Maulw as cool, I liked seeing the days of Obi-Wan and then of course Episode III was the best. The action and Anakin becoming Vader was great. And I loved the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan.

Luke without question. Pretty much the same character just you know... not a brat.

The PT lacked that driving main character throughout it as well beyond the over indulgence in fx and the poor writing. Who was the main character? I can definitely say Luke was for the OT...

/\ Definitely Anakin. Although the first film focused more heavily on Obi-Wan.

Yeah the first one for sure was about Obi-Wan. Which is alright, cause I enjoyed the fight between him and Darth Maul.

I'd say Anakin didn't become a prominent figure until it was too late. We didn't need to see him as a kid and him as a whiny jerk to get the point that he was too codependent.

Episode I - Qui-Gon Jinn easily the main character.

Episode II - It is split between Obi-Won and Anakin. No real main in the movie.

Episode III - Anakin is the main.

That is at least how I see it.

True.

Mostly Qui-Gon. Episode I was mostly about Qui-Gon finding Anakin, being sent to help Naboo, and trying to convince the council to let him train Anakin. Obi-Won had few solo scenes, while Qui-Gon was solo for a good portion of the movie where Obi-Won barely appears.

Makes sense.

Yeah, I always said they should have started Anakin already as a Jedi apprentice. He could be wreckless, but good, kind, and caring towards those he loved. They could keep his backstory (the story depicted in Phantom Menace) just not tell it on screen and have it to where the Jedi refuse to free the slaves on Tatooine (Anakin's mother is still a slave, etc.) because they do not change fate or have control over politics. This angers Anakin but he obeys the order and stays away. He does have dreams, and he forsees his mother dying in slavery.

Anakin is powerful, but he feels he is not getting the advanced training he needs (as alluded to but not really built upon in the PT) and during the Clone Wars (which starts perhaps after the first episode of the PT) OR some other battle, Anakin loses a fight because his opponent was too powerful and was better trained. This causes Anakin more anger, and furthers his frustration over the Jedi order. He snaps and leads an army of mercenaries to Tatooine where he sets about to free the slaves. This could backfire causing a lot of the slave owners to kill their slaves, and Anakin's mother dies as a result.

Anakin is either punished or thrown out of the order, but Palpatine, who has been growing in power, overturns the Jedi decision and makes Anakin his own personel bodyguard. And his secret training to becoming a Sith begins. Some of the events in ROTS can still happen and fit in.

Good point.

actually it was Jar Jar... damn what a mess. :csad:

Man I did not like Jar Jar. He really was not needed.

You're basically following what we all dreamed about when we heard Obi-wan speak of Anakin, good friend, great warrior, BEST STAR PILOT IN THE GALAXY. All lies now. All lies...:csad:

Luke by a longshot. He was a sympathetic character we felt for.

Anakin was an annoying, effeminate twit who did nothing but complained and was basically not a sympathetic character. And somehow he turned into Darth Vader, one of the most beloved screen villains of all time.
