It what, at first glance, comes off as a 'throw away" character you soon realize (from whats revealed) just how important she is-- then. U throw in she's over 1000 yr. old so u know she's got some stories to tell!!

I liked her introduction when she said "where's my boyfriend" lol.

I really didn't get this character at all. Her concept just seemed confused at the idea level. She owns a bar that looks like some kind of castle, complete withs statue of herself? She hosts criminals, but is also supposed to be a wise mentor?

I'd be interested in seeing how a puppet character would work today. Could be great or terrible.

Exactly. Wasting a beautiful actress like her for only her voice on a 1,000 alien who looks like an orange is a huge misstep. They should've hired Betty White instead, who can probably add her own brand of humor to the role. Lupita should have had a role where we can see her face.

I'd be down for that. A Golden Girls reunion.

The Hollywood Reporter - Lupita Nyong'o in Talks to Star in Sci-Fi Thriller With Ava DuVernay Eyed to Direct (Exclusive)

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o is in negotiations to star in Intelligent Life, a sci-fi thriller from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment that has Ava DuVernay circling to direct.

The project already has some bold names on the creative side. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow and his collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the script. Frank Marshall is producing with Trevorrow as well as production banner Big Beach.

Nyong’o is in negotiations, while DuVernay is expected to receive an offer to direct in the next 24 hours. The director, who helmed the Martin Luther King biopic Selma, is also fielding an offer from Disney to adapt A Wrinkle in Time, the children book classic by Madelein L'Engle. There is no conflict between the two projects so the director could end up doing both.

Intelligent Life is a reworking of an earlier Trevorrow-Connolly project titled The Ambassador about a U.N. worker in a department that was created to represent humankind in the event of alien contact. The man falls in love with a mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien. The tone is said to be similar to Trevorrow’s Safety Not Guaranteed and takes The Ambassador to a larger scale story.

Nyong’o will play the woman at the center of the alien contact.

Lupita's new play on Broadway, Eclipsed (which is written by Danai Gurira from The Walking Dead), just launched a campaign called "10,000 Girls". It's going to make it possible for 10,000 girls between the ages of 16-24 who live in the tri-state area to see the play for free.

I do think they wasted Lupita by making her a cartoon alien. Maybe they'll redeem themselves in the sequels but I really think they could have done better.
