Well considering she's already been confirmed to appear in the sequels in larger roles, apparently he can't get his facts straight.

He's just talking about how she's handled in this film.

It's fair to be disappointed considering how she's played up in the marketing, but a sentence or two prior to that line he says that it's like if [BLACKOUT]Boba got knocked in the Sarlacc by the end of Empire Strikes Back, implying that this is the end of Phasma. We know for a fact it's not, and if memory serves, she's only in this movie because Abrams liked what he heard about the character's concept for the later films and thought it'd be good just to establish her existence. [/BLACKOUT]

I didn't realize JJ had talked as much about how small her role is, I can get wanting to establish as part of the new trilogy form the start, but they could have given her one cool scene where we saw she was badass, [BLACKOUT]instead she came off looking a bit like a chump when Chewie and Finn took her down and forced her to show them the computer workings so easily.[/BLACKOUT]

Yeah, a while ago Christie was talking about her essentially being a Boba Fett type role in this one, aka stand there and look cool, and Abrams mentioned that...it was either she wasn't in this at all or she had like one scene in the original stuff but [BLACKOUT]he really liked the sound of what they were going to do with her in the followups[/BLACKOUT] and wanted a tiny bit more time with her. And that's a fair criticism. I think there could have been a moment during the [BLACKOUT]village massacre[/BLACKOUT] for that.

He's not implying that though. He's just talking about how she's treated in this film. He knows how the character came to be and there are plans for her later.

She should've had more to do in the opening to justify Finn's dislike for her. She could've even trooper he fought with the lightsaber too.

Man, I am so glad that I avoided most of the trailers, or else I would have gotten my hopes up about Phasma.

I have really nothing to say about her except that her uniform is cool. If it's true that she's supposed to come back in the other movies, then I welcome it.

What a waste!! She even caved and shut the shields down with no hesitation at all

Cool..
.she works her way out of the garbage and ends up still making out of an exploding blown up Death Star....
?

Then why bring up the [BLACKOUT]Sarlacc[/BLACKOUT] at all?

Guess so. I would have liked a scene showing [BLACKOUT]her, Kylo and Hux making it off the planet.[/BLACKOUT]

Especially Kylo....but oh well,..that wasn't handled correctly.

They could never do that to Boba Fett

So, sounds like Rian Johnson has some plans for her. Sounds good.

I found Captain Phasma really lacking in this film, but I do think there's scope to do something really compelling with her in future films...

Basically, if Kylo Ren is being set up as the arch nemesis and antithesis of Rey, as this film would suggest, then Captain Phasma should be set up similarly as the arch antagonist for Finn. I would like to see Finn's arc for the trilogy be him coming to terms with who he was and how he came to be that, and they could enrich his history with Phasma to make her into a faux maternal figure who trained him from childhood in the ways of cruelty and devotion to the First Order.

In your opinion. We don't necessarily need to see every single thing. We don't need to see Kylo and how he got out to know how. Really not a big issue like you seem to make it.

One thing that I do think could be important about Captain Phasma is her name.

As in, she has one.

The film all but explicitly states that every single Stormtrooper we see excepting Phasma has a code instead of a name; she seems to be of the old school recruitment status, where you actually volunteer for the job. Perhaps she does stand apart from the regular Stormtroopers in such a way as you propose; she seems to be a figure of more importance than a regular officer.

I'd love to see an edited version of the movie one day without her, I think it'd be a great cut.

Apparently according to the official visual dictionary of “The Force Awakens,” Captain Phasmas armor was crafted from the hull of a Naboo starship once owned by Emperor Palpatine
