The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

You know an unmasked Kylo Ren looks a lot like Jon Snow.

I think maybe they've killed the whole "torn" characteristic of Ren by letting him kill his father so early. How do you want to work with his inner conflict when he's just a cold blooded killer of his own dad? "Come to the light side, it's doesn't matter what you've done..." It's just weird. Now he is just an evil dark side murderer and his most interesting psychological feature is non-existent.

This killing act feels more like a seal of his fate at the end of episode IX, the final deed that makes him true sith. It's not something that brings more conflict into him since it's so extreme act.

Of course you can make a ton of arguments against my point but I just wanted to say that what' have happened is somewhat weird spot for developing the most interesting part of his personality.

I think they basically resolved his inner conflict by having him kill Han. I doubt you'll hear much about his pull to the light until the final movie in the trilogy, when it's time for him to be redeemed. Once it's time for that, they'll probably just show how much he regrets killing his father.

I did notice that, after Ren kills his father, he doesn't exactly look triumphant or "yes I finally did it", he just looks kinda lost. I've no idea what they're doing with him next, but it could be that, rather than gaining peace he's just done something that will eat him up even more. Eventually that is.

I really enjoyed Ren's and Hux's rivalry. I assumed Hux was just there to eventually be force-choked out of existence after annoying Ren one too many times but he survived the movie. He was also right on more than one occasion and Ren at times appeared fairly incompetent in comparison to him. I thought that was pretty cool. It''s definitely not something we're accustomed to seeing out of Dark Side characters.

Chewie's bowcaster was able to blow 2 stormtroopers away with ease.

But like a boss, Kylo took one hit and kept on dancing.

100% agree with you there, unlike A New Hope i'm glad that Kylo Ren doesn't see himself as 'above' General Hux and there both of equal power to Snoke, i mean unnecessarily force choking hux in SW7 would've kind annoyed me a bit.

Plus Hux is an awesome character especially when he made that speech. :D

Btw are the Knights of Ren still around or are they all gone?

Did they even show the Knights in the movie? I've only seen it once but weren't they in Rey's dream sequence?

The Knights of Ren and Snoke might be Dark Side users, but they may not be Sith. JJ said Snoke for sure isn't Sith. Could be a different denomination of the Force.

That means Snoke is not Plagueis, because Plagueis is most definately a Sith.

I see, you know it would be awesome if in a future film in the trilogy we see Rey, Finn, Poe & Chewie fight Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren in an awesome battle scene while Luke duels with Snoke and the entire Resistance goes on an all out war against the First Order once and for all.

Now THAT'S how you end a trilogy in a high note. :D

While the NEWEST and BIGGEST deathstar is destroying planets...

I did think it was cool how Ren looked a little like Anakin when he was unmasked. With the curly hair, the dark circles under his eyes and everything.

I wondered about the other Knights, too. Maybe in the next movie we'll meet the rest of them and they'll be supporting characters.

As for Kylo,
apparently in the novel there's a bit after he kills Han in which he seems regretful of his actions, so I don't think killing Han brought him the resolution he was hoping for.

Exactly. I think he'll find that his evil deed hasn't lessened his conflict, but increased it. I suspect that's why he's unable to destroy Finn and Rey. I expect that his turmoil will grow and grow, until eventually, he gives up the darkness and sacrifices himself to destroy Snoke and company. Thus, Han succeeds in bringing his son back, as he promised Leia. He will have given his own life to make Ben good again.

dude, I just had a dream of the exact same scene last night!
Rey vs Kylo, Finn-Poe-Chewie fight 2 knights each, lol

I just saw the film for the first time.

I was definitely intrigued and impressed with what I saw of Driver as "Kylo Ren".

And I don't know if it's already been discussed here, but I loved on how it felt like he was giving off two different personas from whenever he took off/wore the mask.

Whenever he was in a scene with his mask on, he came off as intimidating/cold/precise.

But without it, you really get to see how much of a damaged person Ben Solo is on a mental/emotional level. The dude comes off as mentally ill without the mask, the kind that I've seen/heard exhibited from some of our infamous real life serial killers.

He has a great voice for the role. Even without the mask I thought he sounded cool.

He sounded a little weird when he confronted Finn and Rey in the snow. Almost felt like bad acting to me.
But I LOVED the way he said, "I see it...I seeee the island.." so creepy! Perfect.

Kylo was a great character. A lot of people didn't seem to like him, but I find they didn't like him for the right reasons. You know, the merit of his character. He's a Darth Vader wannabe.

The final fight a lot scoffed at, but his training wasn't finished, he was injured, he was emotionally distraught, he was taking on Finn (very shortly), then took on Rey. And we all know who Rey is.

Loved how he kept hitting his wound. Like, to piss himself off. Anger is strength and all that. Nutso character. Very interesting to see him complete his training.

I agree, too many people missed obvious point of "You are supposed to feel that way about him". It's funny (and lame at the same time) to hear people refer to him as Emo, given he is supposed to be emotionally unstable. I just think people try to use that word as a hip description of Kylo Ren, it pretty much comes off like your Dad using the word Emo to describe something.

Interesting. From what I've seen/heard, he's one of the most praised elements about the film.
