The Force Awakens Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron

The original Marvel Series did go between ESB and ROTJ and actually a little beyond. In '84 they had some post Battle of Endor.

Did not know that. Interesting. I wonder if would move the book there, or post-RotJ, which you would think would be their big goal.

Yeah that was great.

I do wonder when they will move from between ANH and ESB to ESB and ROTJ.

Probably a long ways off. I'm curious to see what happens after they catch up to Jedi though. Especially for Vader. Personally, I'd like if at that point Star Wars started doing post-ROTJ stories and Vader backtracked to Vader stories between III and IV.

Do we know if the Poe series is an ongoing or mini?

Yeah I'm not sure.

I think someone said the Poe one was to be a continuing one for a while? It may even start going post TFA before VIII comes out? I dunno though for certain.

I think they will catch up, but they may go quicker than we think. The interesting thing with the old Marvel series they would lead up to the next film, do a comic version of the film then continue stories after it.

I do figure they will want to start getting deeper into the Luke journey's post Jedi.

I think they'll only really make the plunge to go post-TFA when EpVIII is coming out/has come out.

Yeah, Vader Down was a nice crossover. I like how they've handled interconnecting the two series a lot, especially with the clever ending of the first volumes.

Agreed really enjoyed Vader Down and yes they're doing a wonderful job interconnecting both the SW and Vader series. I plan on getting the Lando trade. And might jump into Kanan once I'm caught up on Rebels.

I need his mom to show up again. In an A-wing.

His mother died when Poe was a kid. After that Leia kind of becomes a surrogate mother figure for him, which I bet will be explored in the comic.

Huh... if Poe and Ben are of similar age then I wonder if they knew each other? If Leia was a mother figure to Poe then that was at the same time Ben was growing up? Maybe even were friends?

**** if that's the case that just added a level of tragedy.

That could very well be the case. If they delve into Poe's backstory you could see a young Ben Solo hanging out with him being angsty and stuff. But I'm not sure Poe knows Kylo Ren is Ben Solo. I got the impression that Kylo kept that helmet on at all times to deliberately hide who he really was to anyone who would know. There's a moment in Snoke's chamber when Hux walks in on Kylo without the helmet and he has this look like he's almost embarrassed.

It would be very interesting if Ben and Poe knew each other growing up. Maybe they'll add that to Poe's character in VIII to flesh him out some more, since they didn't get a chance to develop him much in VII.

There weren't really any clues in their interactions in VII. Poe just acted sarcastic with him, but that could have just been his way to let Ben know he wasn't impressed with Ben's tough-guy act, if he knew that was Ben. Or maybe Poe didn't know and was just being sassy.

I don't believe that is the case. Before the Awakening when Poe meets Leia, it seems to be his first time doing so. I guess you could say that he knew Ben prior. But just the way Before the Awakening went I would not think so.

Kylo's name is Ben?
WTF?
Is this established somewhere in the film?
Or is that from one of these comics?
Is he named after "Ben" Kenobi?
Why would they name their kid Ben, seems pretty stupid.
Han meets him for like a minute and then he dies, and Leia never even met him.
Luke I can see naming a kid after Ben, that would make sense and resonate.
Ben had a huge personal impact on him(and likely still does) .
But Han & Leia?
Has Leia even sensed his force-ghost?

Anyway LOL, the thread and comic announced was about Poe.
That is the character who needs some back story and development, cause he got little on film.

The series will be set prior to the events of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," in the gap between "Return of the Jedi" and the latest Star Wars film. The series will also introduce a new threat from the First Order that will serve as Poe's primary antagonist, with Soule commenting that the new villain "is going to feel fresh and cool." BB-8 and some of the newly introduced X-wing pilots will round out Poe's supporting cast.

Mostly looking forward to Poe'es relationship with the other pilots.

There was a few who got a bit of focus (although maybe they were killed?)

An Alien (there seems to be a figure of him called Atsy)

There was also a Nien, or Tien or Elieven? Whatever they are called?

Hopefully the comic focuses on them, and their missions.

Yes.
Uh-huh.
Is this established somewhere in the film?
Probably when Han shouts "BEN!" at him. I could be mistaken, though.
Or is that from one of these comics?
Now that you mention it...
Is he named after "Ben" Kenobi?
...maybe they named him after Ben Grimm.
Why would they name their kid Ben, seems pretty stupid.
It'd be stupider if they'd named their kid something like Kylo or Mondragon.
Han meets him for like a minute and then he dies, and Leia never even met him.
Luke I can see naming a kid after Ben, that would make sense.
Ben had a huge personal impact on him(and likely still does) .
But Han & Leia?
Maybe Luke got to choose the name. It's really not that big of a deal.

Also, this is the Poe Dameron thread.

:funny:

Yes his name is Ben. Han screams it to him when he's walking across the bridge. And they named it after the man that brought everyone together and started the heroes journey. Ben Kenobi....you know Obi-Wan.

LOL at the whole Kylo Ben Ren derail.

Come to think of it I do remember Han saying Ben, and thinking can he not pronounce his son's name? Then chalking it up to Harrison Ford always kind of talking with marbles in his mouth.
Anyway still seems dumb. The guy took and watched over Luke, not Leia. Did Han & Leia even know him as "Ben" Leia only knew him as a General Obi-Wan who once helped her father, she never even met him. And Han barely met him, his last thought about him was - "Where did you dig up that old fossil?":funny:
Maybe that's why Kylo is so pissed.

-End derail.

I don't really care about Ben-Ren, I'd much rather talk about Poe and the new X-Wing Squad.

I can't remember, as they hit the Starkiller base, did they do a "____ _____ standing by" type roll call?

Can we get some established X-Wing squad names and call signs for these characters.

LEIA - "Ben Kenobi is here! Where is he?"

LEIA - "Ben Kenobi is here! Where is he?"
That was more of a question, after Luke calls him that.

Anyway, .....More Poe Dameron!
This is what I want to see...

He shouted his son's name loud and clear. There is only one way to pronounce Ben.

He's a Sullustan. Nien Nunb is his name.
Oh cool so he's officially supposed to be the same guy who co-piloted with Lando and took out the second death star.
He's still in action.
Any rank, could he be pushing General by now?

Are there any other pilots referenced directly from the OT? Or just him?

this woman.
yirGteQ.jpg
Did she get a name or back story yet?

Also as far as Poe's fighter, is there an established reason given for the color change?
Is that symbolic or rank designation, or is there a tactical advantage?

Did Poe's squadron go by Blue squadron, then become Black squadron?

And again for those who watched it multiple times...
I can't remember, as they hit the Starkiller base, did they do a "____ _____ standing by" type roll call?

Did we get some established X-Wing squad #s and call signs for any of these characters.

Besides those I listed, can't wait to see who else rounds out Poe's supporting cast.

As far as Poe's described "new threat from the First Order...primary antagonist"
I'm glad it won't be Ben-Ren.:funny: (leave him for Rey)

What do you think, a rival pilot?

Or something bigger?

I haven't read who his parents are yet.
Is there something more directly personal established there?
Who kills his mother?

His mother died when Poe was a kid. After that Leia kind of becomes a surrogate mother figure for him, which I bet will be explored in the comic.

This will be set pre-TFA, having it set after opens up too many potential spoilers/future plot holes. I also hope to see more of Poe's X-Wing buddies, and his dynamic with Leia

LOL fan's are on top of this...

It actually slightly bugs me we have to go to the comics for Poe's back story.
More random adventure is great, but for the significant stuff I'd rather it play out and told in the film.

I don't think that we will. I could see them dropping tidbits about his backstory throughout the films, if his role expands going forward.

But still, we knew very little about Han or Lando's backstories in the OT, and they were still really cool characters.

That's true.
Although, Han implicitly get's a strong in-story character growth arc, so he didn't really need allot of his back story on film, what matters is how we see him change. He goes from being a self serving stick my neck out for no one, take care if yourself guy, to coming back because he sees the bigger picture.
That's why you root for him.
Lando similarly, gets to somewhat change who he is from his intro in ESB, where he's protecting his own self interests, willing to play "deal" both sides, to the end where he firmly turns on the Empire to help them save Han.

And that's the difference, Poe is who he is from beginning to end, no growth or change, hence some feel his character of the new Trio lacked an actual story arc.

I feel there was a missed opportunity, while Ben-Ren was rummaging around in his head, plucking info that could reveal something deep, personal about Poe, some truth he could have used against him to potentially break him.

That way when he did "disappear" in the first act, after the escape, then comes back in the third act, all triumphant, your like f-yeah!!! ...they couldn't break him!
But it just wasn't there, they didn't write it.
Adding something now after the fact in the comic, does little.
