Not all African Americans are fans of Tyler Perry. In fact, he can't afford any of the high profile African American actors in Hollywood right now, and none of them would be interested in working with him. He'll go after the likes of Blair Underwood, Morris Chestnut, Michael Jai White, Tasha Smith and Anika Noni Rose to put in his movies rather than the bigger names because he can afford those actors and they have an interest in working with him. Besides the biggest names he's had in his movies have been Taraji P Henson, Idris Elba and Viola Davis. That's as big as he's going to get (and I don't think that Elba or Davis liked doing a Tyler Perry film all that much).
However, he'd be the perfect guy to resurrect the careers of Eddie Murphy and Wesley Snipes. Murphy is in need of a career boost and Snipes will be out of prison next summer. Doing a Tyler Perry project (or two) would be what is needed to boost their careers.
As for this movie, is Eugene Levy that desperate? He sorely needs Christopher Guest to make movies again. And John Amos and Marla Gibbs. Amos was awesome in Coming to America.
