Background

I have an idea that would run through out the entire Marvel universe and would affect most major characters. Right now, it is in a developmental stage so it will be expanded on further & fine tuned. Some plot points are also not finalized. If you have any input on how I can improve it from a plot point to a simple suggestion of a different character, please leave any feedback you wish.

The main focus will be on a major Marvel villain who plots to wipe out Marvel’s heroes on a grand scale. I wasn’t sure what villain has the most power, resources and intense aversion to a majority of Marvel’s heroes to want to carry this out. I came up with Dr. Doom. I view the storyline as a crossover event to run through most major titles and have long lasting effects when resolved. And now, we shall begin with...

Imminent Doom

Furious in being thwarted time & time again by a bevy of Marvel heroes, Dr. Doom slowly devises a plan to eliminate them once and for all. He holes up in a mountain retreat slowly designing his plan from the first stages down to the minute details of whose help he needs in carrying out specific stages and who has specific skills required to have his plan succeed. He manufactures a chemical agent that attacks the nervous system & slowly erodes the mind reducing the subject to a bestial state. It comes in the form of an air born virus that can be unleashed from a remote location. It has permanent effects but, Dr. Doom created an antidote for it also that plays an important part in his scheme. Administering the antidote to the victim leaves them in a catatonic state until he lessens the dosage to return them to normal. Doom calls the disease "the Warrior’s Madness"

He selects key Marvel heroes to expose his biological weapons on , and once their health is compromised his plans begins. He chooses the Hulk , Wolverine ,Capt. America & Thor. He knows that these 4 targets will be reduced to savagery within days and it will take the remaining heroes to band together & stop them. Heroes fighting heroes. Doom hopes one, if not many, of these titanic battles will result in the death of a hero as he watches from the sidelines.

Doom figures it will only take a few days for this to fuel a panic throughout the world and that’s when he steps in to offer assistance and a plan to stop these ‘rogue heroes’ with a major press conference to world leaders.

He convinces them by saying, " We have a world that is spinning violently out of control. Each day these ‘heroes’ battle each other for reasons we may never know. What we do know is we have to stop them . The risk of letting them destroy our land and our safety to all who inhabit earth is insurmountable. It threatens all life as we know it. We have the Hulk, who has always been a brute, acting more savage then ever ,laying waste to entire city blocks. We have the mutant Wolverine, running wild across international lines slicing at anything in his path. We have Thor, a god from another dimension and skilled warrior , fighting country’s army’s by himself and finally...Capt. America. The most patriotic and honorable soldier in the United States fighting against his own military. A man who is outranked only by the president himself, turning into an outlaw against the country he swore to defend and protect."

The world leader’s agree and appoint Dr. Doom to head a task force to control the situation. He hand picks his task force [other major Marvel villains] and begins to hunt down the rogue heroes. Doom gives each villain who is helping him in capturing the heroes a vial of the antidote. One by one Doom’s villainous generals subdue the infected heroes with the antidote and become ‘heroes’ in the eyes of the public in the process. He then alerts the world he has traced the cause of the heroes change in disposition while he had the Hulk captured.

He reveals they were victims to the ‘Warrior’s Madness’ He announces to the public he believes certain psychological & physiological factors are to blame , slightly different in each subject’s case & would want further research done on them. He also states the other mutant heroes and enhanced heroes who are still operating in our presence may be next, for this effect may lie dormant before it erupts full blown. Because of Doom’s success , and growing popularity with the public, & knowledge of the disease the world’s leaders appoint him and his subordinate generals as permanent heads of international security in a new agency designed strictly to monitor and combat super powered beings. Along with that honor he also would head a center to study & develop a cure for the disease of the ‘Warrior’s Madness’ He keeps the formula to his virus locked away & protected so he may manufacture it at will, expose other heroes to it and lead an ongoing witch hunt to eliminate them one by one.

have a few more key elements i'm going to add, but was waiting for any critique's so far.

Doesn't really appeal to me.

I like it. I love Doom stories and that would indeed shake things up. I would love for Doom to something like that but with something more sinister in mind.

Well, i'm up for more sinister if you have ideas. Is why I need some input or points.

Not bad, has potential and I can see this really being good. I would say if you call the "Illness" something else, or better yet don't name it at all, It sounds kind of corny "Warriors whatever" I wouldn't have Doom just come out in the open with a solution so casually, and I think letting guys like Blackpanther and Namor shine and be the heroes of the "event" would be logical. I see this really being a major sea-change for Marvel.

S.H.I.E.L.D. could be really central to the story and Nick Fury having to bring down the heroes that he has worked with over the years, and your choices as the first targets by Dr.Doom is brilliant! and makes the most sense.

Dude tighten up the story structure and keep the continuity with the personalities right and you got a excellent Dr.Doom Event on your hands!

kudos!

I like your idea of S.H.I.E.L.D. I didn't think of them as the agency to come in & do damage control. Not sure on how you mean to use Namor oe BlankPanther though.

I think if you could involve on of the FF in the story, perhaps Sue or Ben, it'd play on their traditional relationship with Doom, and also bring some more family conflict into the story. THe rest of teh FF having to help subdue one of theie number, in teh knowledge that Ultimate force is necessary.

Also, in this story, we might finally find out how Peter Parker's figured out he can kill the Hulk. He apparently figured out a way...

I kinda see it (the story) as being more global, with world leaders getting involved, Doom,Black Panther, and Namor are all leaders of their own nation.
It's hard to explain.

Yes, another idea I came up with is having 1 of the infected heroes being a member of the FF. There would be a little drama having the remaining FF battle the infected FF member who is also being hunted down by Doom.

As far as Parker knowing how to kill the Hulk...1st i've heard of it. Might be very interesting to weave it in here.

Ok, I see now your direction. That is a good idea having Black Panther & Namor ,using their prominence to step in & help out.

I think if could use this to take control of the world, I know that sounds corny, through showing they need his view. The he could just sit and watch shield or the army fight these heros. It would be cool to see Captian America argee with Doom.

I'd like to see Doom really break through and Decide once and for all that the time of Super People has ended. Think about it, he has no innate powers, and even considering his magic, he could just as easily justify it to himself (in his oh so vain way) that it is simply his genious allowing him to harness natural energies as anyone could, as if it was his own genious made corporeal.

Anyways, I'd love to see Doom blindside the world and see a huge coming together of the MU headed by Nick Fury, not SHEILD (think Secret War, Nick being disillusioned by SHEILD), in a desperate and at times faltering attempt to take Doom out. If anyone one villian is still just plain evil after the last 40 years, it's Doom. Never been anything but, and never will ;).

I would love to see this. He should finally have his chance to kill Reed but make him suffer.

Is my thinking as well. Have Doom temporarily take over the world after he dispatches the heroes, and now commands most of the forces that conqured the fallen heroes. Somehow eventually, he would be de-throned but....not for awhile.

Using Nick Fury as the leader of a band of Rebels who rises up to challend Doom after he has total power is a promising idea.

I think he would not kill Reed, at least not right away. Maybe keep him alive to serve some other purpose 1st.

You wait a month and a half until you say you guess not? You must be a quick guy in conversation :p

Didnt know i was being timed.

even if doom is dead rite now, i very much like your idea. i think it would be a good idea if doom was given control of S.H.I.E.L.D., cuz they pretty much are in charge of world security. fury becomes his subordinate and has to work from the inside to take doom out with a band of heroes.

Your idea of having Fury bring down Doom from the inside is intriguing. I like the idea because all the heroes who have powers are helpless & the 1 man who can save the world is an ordinary man with no powers. Perfect.
