Black Lightning is probably my favorite in DC. His character is is just all around cool, or atleast he was. It seems like ever since he had his vol.2 DC has been just ignoring him.

Still I believe the brotha should get another series of his own. He brought an interesting vibe to the DC world, it lacking in decent African-American heroes and all.

Yeah he deserves some praise for staying alive as long as he did. I would have expected DC to off him by now, but sure as hell glad they didn't.

He's a cool character, I'm hoping to see him in some solo action.

He's still a member of the Justice League ain't he? I like him, although I think he fits much better with the Outsiders.

DC put him on the JLA where he really doesn't deserve to be and they are ignoring him?

He really should have his own solo book, written by Isabella, and be on the Outsiders instead of the JLA.

Ah, yes. Black Lightning. There's an awesome role model of a superhero. What did he do to keep his secret identity, again? Oh, that's right. He used to speak in as much stereotypical jive as possible whenever he was in costume, because no one could know that the black superhero was educated. :cmad:

He's almost as useless as Brother Voodoo.

only if Eddy Newell is drawing

Well, I like him too. Very much.I used to read him when he was part of the outsiders. Great Stuff. His disco suit made me laugh a lot back in the day. Now I loooooooove his actual suit. I think the guy is great, powerful, smart, interesting, good connections with the underworld and all, but I think he doesn't really fit into the JL.
I'm not sure the character would need a on-going serie but I would love to see a mini or miniS.
I'm glad they updated him a bit but I would rather like him to be with the Outsiders.

the 13 issues he had in his solo book was great

Haha, did he really? Funny that he went on to be the Secretary of Education. :D

I always thought Black Lightning's lightning should, itself, be black.

The same way wonder womans lasso makes people tell the truth, or how batman still hasn't been killed yet, or how the green lantern rings used to be ineffective to the color yellow.

It's just comics.

Edit; although makin him have Black Lightning takes away from his name being pretty racist.

Yeah, but it would be kinda cool if his 'lightning bolts' were black voids absent of light with the same effect of his nromal ones.

I guess.

that's kinda what i was thinking. You'd probably have to have 'em edged by white or something just so they stand out on darker backgrounds. But anyway yeah, I just thought it'd be neat-lookin'.

If we're talking about African-American heroes, I personally prefer Mr. Terrific to Black Lightning, or Brotha-Man's other favourite - Muhammed X.

While I feel the latter two have been built too much around black stereotypes (though Black Lightning has had something of a character remodelling more recently, with his past acquaintance with Lex Luthor being more of a focal point) I like Mr Terrific for the fact that his character development has nothing to do with his color. He's known for being the third smartest man in the world. He's known for his cynically scientific, relentlessly Atheist worldview. Not for being "a black superhero".

And I think that's the REAL progression of the African-American protagonist. Not "giving a voice to the brothas". But by being developed in a nuanced, three-dimensional manner, where they could just as easily be white. The multitude of white characters in comics aren't defined by their color. I don't see why black characters should be any different.
