Making Costumes?

Any advice for a noob making a Rorschach mask guys?

t shirt is the easiest technique and you can iron on the look or marker it...but you can always buy a spandex slave mask and marker it

so i'm still working on mine, (I NEED IT TO BE PERFECT lol). but i thought i'd get some opinions. any critiques are welcome.

yes i know these things need changing:
jacket color to match
'scumming' up
jacket length
hatband
im also going to put in some of those shoulder pads they have in tuxes.

what do you guys think of the hat? i'm not sure i'm happy with it

Looks fine to me. in fact it looks really good.

Yeah it does look good. I don't think the hat looks too bad at all. Maybe when you get the right coloured hat band on there you'll change your mind about it.
Are you going for the movie version, comic version or a half and half?

mostly comic version. but i'm doing a darker trench coat (personal preference, and much more intimidating imho) and the movie versions hat. the main reason i'm unhappy with the hat is the brim i think. its just too long....
oh also, i tried to make a new watchmen smiley pin(movie version) on zazzle, and they canceled it for copyright infringement. wtf?

Brim shape/size.

I agree on the brim size being too big on that Fedora. There are Fedoras with smaller inch-inch and a half brims, I believe thats what Rorschach wears.

If your going to cut the brim down. I recommend using some tailors chalk to mark it out first, and try to conform to the shape of the existing brim. Also do yourself a favour and purchase a rotary cutter.

see i don't mean any disrespect to your costume notso, but i think that that hat isn't right either. the top of Rorschach's isn't round its a c-crown. and i don't think the brim is quite that short. i l know i'm being anal about it, but i've been working on it going on a year now, and its like my baby or something lol.

i got a hat more like notso...its hard to find ones like they used for rorschach in the movie unless you want a movie prop hat thats all black or you wanna pay alot because that style is kinda popular

also what do you guys think on the hat ribbon... bow or no bow? i know the comic version's doesn't have it, and it just seems kind of un-rorschachy

Fair enough. But if you are doing a movie version. I would suggest a different fabric for the mask and a more organic looking ink blot.

i no, its actually more of a combo. i'd love to do a ew mask, but this one ran me 50 (so overpriced) and that was the main part i didnt know how to do, because being able to see clearly and breath well are important to me. i might make a new mask before comicon.
