Horror Malignant | James Wan

Not gonna lie, I was expecting something... different. This looks more of the same but we'll see.

I guess I can kinda see those inspirations in the trailer, but it still has his Conjuring/Insidious-verse aesthetic to it that makes more of the same. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Also I know it's not in fashion anymore, but I lowkey wish he brought back his old style like in Saw and Dead Silence.

Based on the trailer, I think this film's aestethic and cinematography is probably the closest Wan has gotten to his Dead Silence aesthetic. Its got the clipped whites, crushed blacks, restrained color pallet. All the characters even have that the sickly pale skin tone like none of them get any sun.

Its not all as heavy handed as Dead Silence's aestethic, but its definitely on display.

Looks like WB is dumping this one too. They're hardly promoting it.

That poster is the first thing that makes me excited to see this… too much cgi in the trailer, the poster on the other hand is selling a horror film from 1978.

Is it good or bad? He wants us to go to the theaters to see it but has said “not so great things” about it too?

I think he’s trolling it as some Showgirls experience on the so bad it’s great spectrum.

Or something.

Everyone know it's bad
James Wan hasn't made a bad film yet. Besides a lot of unnecessary marketing during this pandemic is a bad investment. Especially for anything less than a blockbuster.
