Begins is really in it's own category. It is the film that every "gritty-reboot" that has come along since wants to be.

Before that every super-hero film wanted to be spider-man, begins made changed that up and of course TDK blew off the doors.

Man of Steel. It had better character development, better acting, Lois and Clark had great chemistry, great fight scenes and I'm obviously a Superman fan.

I'm more of a Superman fan than a Batman fan that is why I'm pissed that Batman Begins is better film than Man of Steel.

Nolan just did a better direction than Snyder's "trying to be innovative shaking camera".

I like MOS too but Batman Begins was more heartfelt and best superhero film ever.

The overall story arc for MOS was really good. But it could've been edited together a little better.

I love BATMAN BEGINS, but I think MAN OF STEEL ends up with the edge because it has better writing. It's got more pathos, less overt cliché, less random silliness, and more exploration of important/relevant concepts, whereas BATMAN BEGINS has "It's not who I am underneath, but what I dooo that defines me" beyond Bruce's basic mission.

MAN OF STEEL also parcels out its exploration of issues more gradually, whereas in BEGINS, they're all dumped on us at once via early speeches from Rachel Dawes and Ra's Al Ghul.

MAN OF STEEL has a more interesting and better-utilized supporting cast for the most part (the films are pretty even in terms of acting), and a much better and more interesting "love interest" than BEGINS.

MAN OF STEEL also has the clear edge when it comes to action and visuals (though BEGINS has superior cinematography), though it's closer than it should be because of the Tumbler chase sequence. They're about even in terms of character development, I think, and if people can't see that both have about the same editing and pacing issues, they're not being terribly honest with themselves.

To me, MOS soars to higher heights, and certain scenes are gold (Pa Kent death scene, Pa Kent final flashback), but overall, the pacing at the end, etc make it so it just doesn't quite come together as well as BBegins, for me.

I agree with pretty much all of that. Particularly the stuff about editing and pacing. I'd say they're equal in that regard (and I just want to say that I think the editing and pacing were good in both). But if you didn't like the way that was handled in one, I don't see how you would like it in the other.

I will say that MOS was clearly influenced by BB, or rather, Goyer looked at what he did with Batman and applied it to Superman. So it should be taken into account that BB was a very influential film. We saw other franchises apply a similar formula in the reboots of James Bond and Star Trek.

And lets not forget the influence Superman the Movie had on Begins too :cwink:

But yeah Begins has inspired loads of films the ones you me tinned and even Amazing Spider-Man.

Impact

Shawn Adler of MTV stated Batman Begins heralded a trend of darker genre films, that either retold back-stories or rebooted them altogether. Examples he cited were Casino Royale, as well as the in-development RoboCop, Red Sonja, and Grayskull.[83] Filmmakers, screenwriters and producers who have mentioned Batman Begins or The Dark Knight to describe their projects include: Jon Favreau and Iron Man,[84] Edward Norton and The Incredible Hulk,[85] McG and Terminator Salvation (which also stars Bale),[86] Damon Lindelof and Star Trek,[87] Star Trek Into Darkness,[88] Robert Downey, Jr. and Sherlock Holmes,[89] Lorenzo di Bonaventura and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,[90] Hugh Jackman and X-Men Origins: Wolverine,[91] Matthew Vaughn and X-Men: First Class,[92] Rupert Wyatt and Rise of the Planet of the Apes,[93] Kevin Tancharoen and Mortal Kombat,[94] Sam Mendes and Skyfall,[95] Alex Kurtzman and Van Helsing,[96] Andrew Kreisberg and Arrow,[97] and Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton with a potential adaptation of God of War.[98] Entertainment Weekly has cited Batman Begins as an inspiration for both the reinventing, as well as the tone for the recently released The Amazing Spider-Man.[99]

I'd like to request all threads comparing any superhero origin film to Batman Begins be deleted until such a time comes when we actually get one as good as Batman Begins.

With the exceptions of Superman: The Movie and Iron Man, I agree with this.

Batman Begins is without a doubt the best reboot CBM.

I think both of them are pretty great to watch, but Batman Begins is the better movie of the 2

Iron Man comes pretty close

Iron Man blows Batman Begins out of the f****n water.

I prefer Iron Man over Batman Begins too. And I am little of an Iron Man fan (I still like the character and know him from the comics as a child) and all of a Batman fan. BB was genius about the tone, but the execution wasn't all too well in some areas, like in the action scenes or some of the dialogue.

I feel Iron Man just starts to go meh once Stane puts on the suit. Otherwise, it was great.

I think the movie had a lot more to offer than just a suit v. suit fight in the third act... but hey it's a superhero movie and I guess there needed to be a big fight against the bad guy.

Eh, not really, take away RDJ and it's not much of a film.

But it... does have RDJ. And that's part of the reason why it's a better movie. That's like saying, "Hey, replace Katie Holmes with Hillary Swank and Batman Begins would have been a lot better!" Uh, no s***.

Except Batman Begins does feature Katie Holmes and she does take the audience out of the story.

I'm sorry, but from a pure film making and story telling perspective Iron Man is a far weaker film where its flaws are covered up by its charismatic leads great performance. Batman Begin has a solid foundation throughout (mostly), Iron Man's is a lot shakier. Yes they have similarities but that's because Begins helped influence Iron Man, in the end Iron Man is still a lesser mans Batman Begins.

Lol, is this a serious question?

I agree. Had they not needed that final fight because the audience was expecting that kind of thing in a superhero film, it probably would have been a lot stronger. Up until that point, it was fantastic. The third act though is just...meh to me. BB's third act was it's weakest point too but I still thought it was better.
