Can I deny Supes is the world's greatest hero? Yes, I prefer Spider-Man and Batman and there are far greater heroes in literature than any....now I shall avoid some stones.

It is all opinion anyway.

HOwever, Superman is not as popular as he once was. That is a fact. He is opening well but Jack Sparrow has more hype because to modern audiences (in America anyway) he IS the bigger icon on film.

Some people will just have to eat crow like they did when they said BB would make more than Episode III. The truth hurts.

Oh well.

There is such a difference between Pirates and Star Wars it isn't funny. Same with Batman and Superman. Superman is more equal to Spidey then anything, where Batman is more alongside the X-Men.

I've gotta agree. Most people I know are hyped for Superman, but not as much as Pirates. Pirates is, as I view it, The Star Wars trilogy for this generation. It came out of nowhere and provided a great experience for audiences that hadn't been seen in a long time. That is the main selling point that it has going for it. Superman has a lot more riding on him; Some people wanted a Smallville movie (sadly), others refuse to accept anyone other than Christopher Reeves as Superman (sadly; It's like saying no one can play James Bond except Connery); Some just think Superman is a lame superhero and have no interest because other heroes are "cooler" (even though most of them wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for his success). The MTV generation of today (which I am unfortunately a part of) doesn't really have as big an interest in Superman, and hopefully strong word of mouth will help keep it in the top 10 for the summer, like Batman Begins did last year.

Well considering you think this Star Wars then think back to Empire. A film that didn't come close with the first film in terms of numbers (Even though it could be the best film), with a very similar darker feel to it. The heroes don't win the day again. Our Han Solo is going to meet a Han Solo like fate.

SR is made to show Superman with new side.

Besides, there are kids and teeangers.

Looks like you know every person's opinion. The same was with BB and FF, you was speaking like know what ppl think, but at the end you was wrong.

I dont think every human on this planet is looking forward to it.

I think the most of ppl from US will got to see SR than most people from overseas.

yeah you do.

Don't the SUPERMAN TV spots saw it all?

"The World's Greatest Hero Returns."

Come ON! Even though that's just marketing, can anyone really DENY that statement?

oh very easy....YES. The worlds greatest hero returns..cmon now:spidey:

I have not been the biggest SR supporter by any means but based on every thing I now know about this production including the great reviews and buzz, put me down for officially for:

$350 million domestically
$450 million international

$800 Million total box office

It wins the summer.

read thru this thread and the official summer bombs thread, thats all the proof right there.

I didn' say that I think everyone love it.

Be realistic, dude.

I thought critics will not be so positive, but they are.

Just look at the poll. But nevermind.

So I am just waiting for release date.

That's a bit ridcious right there if you ask me.

I couldn't care less which one makes more money.
I'm just going to enjoy both as they kickass movies they are going to be.

I'm no saying Sr isn't gonna make money. Cause i know it will. I'm just saying 800 is a bit far fetched.

Agreed. $800 is too much for it. I expect from it $700-730m.

That's still a llittle too much. max i say is 670. 700 tops.

Well, you can be right

I think POTC2 will also make $800-850m.

SR will do between $250m - $275m domestically more than likely. Add in another $200m Internationally and it should end up close to the $500m worldwide range. Could be more based on it being a good film for everybody - it has romance, action, comedy, and it looks to be quite epic based on the clips I've seen.

POTC2 will be overrated just like the last film and will open bigger than the first film, but won't make as much.

that sounds just about right. around BB numbers.

No, NOT BB numbers, that did $205m. Supes will obviously make more than that and X3 I'm sure.

Maybe or maybe not but these number are still below that of the first Spider-Man so these are not unrealistic numbers.

both will kill it but SR has the marketing bling. SR, but not by much...

speaking of which I doubt that Superman hits a bag of Doritos and saves the day. At least Matrix tried to tie in the Marketing, this time for SR it was highest bidder rinses the product. Poo.

My prediction is Supes will open with a 5 day total of something around $100 million to $115 million (depending on how big opening day is) with the opening weekend being something like $70 million or een $75 million (being out on Wed. will sap it from hitting $90 million I think).

It will rank up good but then POTC2 will open the following weekend and I think it will make over $100 million opening weekend. I think it honestly has a SMALL (but still there, even if microscopic) chance of breaking Spidey's 3 day total. And I think it will likely just cut the rug out from under Supes' money making machine.

I think (domestic) Supes will make around $250 million, maybe a little less. On the other hand I think POTC2 will make $300 million (maybe a little more). Because yes I think POTC is closer to the SW of this generation then any other. It has the fun factor, resurrecting a dead genre and appeals to all ages and has a Han Solo type character (though no Vader here) and manages to make audiences just breathe with anticipation for each movie (the ending of the next will do an ESB). I find this more promising than claims that LOTR are (a little too dark, serious and prestegious to be Star Wars) or Harry Potter (more of a book craze transplanted on film that is slowly dying off) or even Spider-Man (the first film isn't good enough to be compared to SW, though a good if flawed studio movie and the series' story doesn't have enough of the epic pull, though the second was an instant classic and the third looks good, it just isn't as circular as SW, LOTR or how POTC is shaping up to be).

So wait considering SW was the king of its generation and POTCs needs tons of money over the next two films to even be in it's ball park, how do you figure? If you are talking style of film, well of course. They ripped off SW and changed the lead from Luke to Han, and put it in the pirate universe.

However if this is their ESB it will take a hit in terms of the numbers. The first film had to contend with the terrible T3 and Bad Boys II. It hit at the perfect time. This film isn't going to have that chance.

I think you are WAY over estimating Superman Returns.

Have I even thrown my estimates? No. Oh, okay. Here it is:

Supes will make $275 million in the US. Big opening week, then trickles off after Pirates debuts.

Pirates will make $275 million in the US. Big opening weekend and great legs like the original, but not quite as great.
