March 2008 Sales Charts and Market Share Report

Thor and Buffy are selling in the top ten, and they're totally not crap. So I look at that list and feel encouraged that there's hope yet. :)

Actually, that's not true. I said I'd give Exiles a shot ONLY after reading a couple of positive reviews. That said, I'm probably going to drop it.

If I was talking him up, I was probably referring to his better days as a writer.

And we aren't faulting the one off bad book here and there. Fact is, the top 10 is LOADED with crap. The masses have never been into quality in ANY entertainment medium. Otherwise we wouldn't have country music, NASCAR, American Idol and reality TV.

:) All true, and I probably would be the first one to rip Survivor (I proudly exclaim that I have never watched a single episode...)

I guess I'm being a little acerbic about it, but when people start the whole "unwashed masses" thing, I mean, who of us doesn't have their guilty pleasures?

I did, but I dropped all of mine recently. I don't think I read anything I don't thoroughly enjoy right now, although I might be forgetting things.

I have a few that are on there due to "momentum." Exiles being one, actually. I'll probably drop that one. I always know when the next week comes by and there are a couple still in my bag from the previous week.

It drifted for a while after that for me, but I still enjoyed it. CCs really driving the stake in the heart, now, though. It's a shame, for almost it's entire run, it was one that I consistently looked forward to.

What I really meant to comment on that list is how sales in general are dropping. The last year or so, I was somewhat optimistic with many titles topping the 100K range. It looks like the events have run out of steam.

I'm wondering why that is. Enthusiasm for comics online, at the very least, seems to be about the same. Maybe it's reaction from the general public, who are finally realizing that the events aren't gonna stop and they can't keep buying comics in the numbers they have been. Maybe it's just because the economy is crappy, gas and food are more expensive, and everyone's cutting some of their luxuries. I wish there were some way to gauge the why of the sales decrease better.

I'd imagine it's a combination of all the above.

Screw the economy. I'll just raise the rent on some of my tenants. Let them pay for my comics (just kidding guys :O )

I still buy (but don;t enjoy)

Countdown (although it's been readable the last few issues)
Superman
JLA
New Avengers (which is only hanging on till SI is through)

why?....who knows?

I certainly don't. Especially JLA. That thing's been a steaming pile of crap for a long time now.

I did, actually. I just didn't say it in case you were one of the weird people who liked Meltzer's run, 'cause then it would've started a big argument and I'm not really in the mood for that.

I'm sure you can, but the qualification is the part I was mostly talking about in that case.

WAIT!!!

BUY this months! A nice done-in-one with the Flash and Wonder Woman vs. HIVE. And art by Ethan Van Sciver.

Do it!

Not a huge Van Sciver fan, to be honest. And what's the deal with the Flash and Wonder Woman getting paired up all the time? They had a random crossover before IC, too...

Black Panther is sooooo getting cancelled soon. It loses over 2,000 readers a month and once Aaron's arc is over the drop will go back to normal.

Aaron's on that book along with GHOST RIDER?

Damn, poor fella's been tasked with rising a bunch of books from the grave, man. Oh, well, guess you have to start somewhere in the Big Two.
