Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

Yay! Matt and Showtime are here.

You want to see them have a pillow fight? It has to be a turn on for gals to see men go at it like that. ;)

I told you guys, Millar may be passionate in loving Superman but make no mistake... His characterization sounds more polarizing than what Singer delivered.

I agree. He may be a good comic book writer & a fan of Supes, but that doesn't he is right for the job here. That why I felt being a fan of a character don't mean you can't make it perfect or something a lot will love. Sometime it will work, sometime it won't. And apparently it wouldn't work in Millar's idea. I'm sure many would prefer Singer on Superman than Millar. Trust me. :D :D

When will Millar say that Eminem is already signed for Superman and that Halle Berry is close to sign as Lois Lane?
Last time it worked...

As JCDC said I am all for a reboot but not with Millar's view on Superman. I do not like how he sees Clark and his view on Lois and Superman. Now once again maybe his views have changed and if they have then so be it and I'll be all for a reboot. I just want a good Superman movie. I think Singer did a great job and Routh was perfect but if the WB feels this may be better then I am willing to give it a shot as well and to be honest I am in favor more of a reboot at this time then a sequel because I feel M.O.S should take place no less then a month after the events of SR. Mainly because Superman needs to tell Lois the truth about hi, being Clark and be more apart of Jason's life then part time. That being said to much time has passed for the actor playing Jason and I have a feeling this movie will take place a year or two after the events of SR. That being said I feel that it is wrong that it would take this long for Superman to tell Lois the truth and let another man raise his child. As much as I loved SR I feel the sequel should be coming out next year so it could fix some problems any longer and the kid playing Jason would either have to be recast or you have to write one hell of a story so fans will not be pissed that after so many months or years Superman still hasn't told Lois the truth or hasn't been a real dad to Jason.

That is why IMO now I am all for a reboot given the right script and the right casting and director. I do not want to see something like SV on the big screen because IMO that ship has sailed after its 4th season. And if there is a reboot I do want as good of a script as SR was because IMO the script was well written but the movie was edited poorly. So for a reboot you have to give me a good script that can make me say okay I see why they went with this over a sequel and I don't want it to be all action with little to no story (yea I am looking at you Transformers and Wanted and Iron Man). I want this reboot or the sequel to SR to be much like X2 were you have a great story that is well balanced with just the right amount of action much like the Dark Knight.

just read millars view, yeah just keep singer. i was fine with him, i liked SR and im sure the'll figure out what to do with the kid. they should do what ultimate superman said and just even out the action and a great story like X2, just give me brainiac and i'll be fine.

No, I don't want a reboot. I mean, do we really need to see the origin story again?

If they do, then that means I REFUSE to watch a reboot Superman film and won't even support this. Without Brandon Routh in Superman, it won't help.

Im serious. Brandon Routh IS Superman and Superman Returns deserves to have it's sequel.

Man did I hate him in 2004 and 2005...but now when I see that, I miss him :(

Hate him? He helped put the Red Sox back on the map and win them a World Series.

Did you get a dunkin iced coffee and go up against Paps yet?

millar is a good writer. i would be pretty excited if i heard he was writing the superman returns sequel. but i have no interest in a re-start. and i dont think this dream of his is gonna happen. or at least, not this time around.

He is hit or miss for me, right now he wants a reboot, not a sequel.

I can appreciate this reference.

Glad you got it.

I eat pillows.

That is who he is getting for his reboot.

Like I said... he needs to stay away from Superman film.

I'm still up for the sequel, but no reboot.

I am hoping that Kevin Millar throws his hat in the ring as a writer for a Superman Script.

Cowgirl up! LOL....Millar= lousy....

The fairest I can be on the subject is this... Based on his views of characterization of Superman characters I feel he is off. However what the director wants could be different in some areas and I can not say 100% how his script would turn out. That could be an equalizer for all I know. Given the information we have on Millar's view right now though, I'd stay clear.

HA HA HA...

When news is slow, this is what happens to us veterans :D

okay...so I've been reading some of this Millar guy's ideas on Supes...............

wow......just wow......suddenly Singer doesn't seem so bad........lol.

the way this guy sees Superman is like some all-powerful God-like being who goes around kicking a** and views himself as ABOVE us mere human mortals.....

the sounds more like General Zod type character.....not Supes.......

If this is what Millar's views of Superman are.....I don't want him near the Superman franchise either........

well we dont like hes idea. maybe if he would writte a script from WB and singer it would be a fantastic script. lets not forget dougherty and harris wrotte what singer told them.

Im in full support of a reboot for better or worse Singer wanted to make a spiritual successor to Reeves films. However i think this was a bad choice because imo what made BB so great was that it did a great job updating Batman. Returns did not update Superman. Also Singer, possibly as a result of working on x-men, tried to make Supes too relatable. I dont wanna relate to Superman, thats why he is Superman. Hopefully the director whoever he may be has a good vision for him.

isnt this the most import thing with a superhero character?

You could make the argument that the reason marvel was/is more popular than dc is because of relatability. But Superman is one of the most powerful beings in the world, i dont really want him having kids i just wanna see him kicking butt. I just think Singer got too caught up in making him relatable. SR shoulda been called Clark Kent Returns, cause imo it was more about Clark and Supermans personal life than Superman.

looks like milllar is desperate to writte superman. so maybe he would also lie to us.

I'd say Routh over Millar but got choice happy with 3rd and 4th essentially the same... So voted option 4 that WB hasn't apparently decided so neither would know.

Neither, only WB truly know the status or do they? Dun dun dun.

i just think singer went a little overboard with the relating is all

--> WB doesn't even know what is going on... how would they?

Another story that once again throws this situation into disarray, honestly what the hell is going on WB?

I'm all for a reboot, but not with Millar writing. A lot of his view I don't agree with.

On Clark Kent: "Clark is a pair of glasses. Superman doesn't need glasses. He puts on the glasses for no practical reason; just to dress up and pretend to be this mid-westwern guy he's not as a means of rubbing shoulders with the people on this planet. Superman would have thought he was human until puberty. Until maybe 12. The easiest way to understand it is to think of Jesus in the temple and the moment where his mother has to tell him the truth. He always knew he was different and alone. This is when it was all explained to him. He could still love his parents, but Clark is him trying to understand what humans are all about. As Elliot Maggin puts it, Clark Kent is a living, breathing work of art."

On Lois Lane: "Superman doesn't love Lois. Clark loves Lois and Superman tries HARD to love Lois, but he can't because she's the wrong species. But he tries. Again, Maggin sums it up beautifully. It doesn't have to be complicated... Clark loves Lois, Lois loves Superman, Superman loves Clark [...] Perfect. This is also one of the reasons Superman shouldn't be married to Lois. It's just stupid. It makes no sense and destroys the whole dynamic. Superman is God, Jor-El is the Holy Spirit and Clark Kent is Jesus. The Kents are Mary and Joseph and Lois is Mary Magdelene. She's the NYC girl who's ____ed her way around the city and found nobody who measures up. She's just had it with men and is focusing on her career... then Superman shows up. This is why Margot Kidder was perfect for the role and why Lois should be played by someone around 30 even if Supes is being played by a 25 year old. You'll see what I mean when we fix it."

On the current version of the character: "[Kingdom Come] is close to perfect. Waid gets it. None of the other American writers do, though Loeb comes close. His only weakness is getting caught up in the whole farmboy thing. The farm is where he grew up and knew he was NOTHING LIKE THESE PEOPLE. He affects it for the Clark persona, but that's it. He's as Kryptonian as Jesus is divine. Did Jesus shag Mary Mag? I don't think so. Superman should never shag Lois. It's insane and what happens when artists start touching tyoewriters. Jimmy is the reader-identification figure and the comedy relief. PS I'm saving everything else for the launch. No other ideas from me here, I'm afraid, in case some ____ nicks em."

How people can say Bryan Singer doesnt get Superman and then at the same time want Miller to do a re-boot is just beyond me, THE ABOVE IS NOT SUPERMAN. Sorry but i dont want THAT ABOVE from a Superman movie, EVER   .
