Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

Both of them don't get Superman but I'll admit Millar doesn't get him even more.

I agree with AVEITWITHJAMON, its funny how some can totally bash SR and agree with Millar's views on the character. Either way its not like this is going to happen, their focus I'm sure is on the dark knight right now considering its less than a month away. After that you will hear news especially if TDK is big, their going to want to capitalize on it.

its kinda funny that millar claims superman doesnt love lois, yet kingdom come is close to perfect. when, in kingdom come, clark gives up on being superman because of lois' death.

You could make the argument that the reason marvel was/is more popular than dc is because of relatability. But Superman is one of the most powerful beings in the world, i dont really want him having kids i just wanna see him kicking butt. I just think Singer got too caught up in making him relatable. SR shoulda been called Clark Kent Returns, cause imo it was more about Clark and Supermans personal life than Superman.

Well, you know, some of us actually appreciated that SR had a serious story about Superman, how he feels being so powerful and the last of his kind, and on finding his place in the world. To some of us, he is much more than just an action figure that punches things.

Indeed.

You might as well scratch off Clark and to even some extent Kal-el if you don't want to relate at all.

yeah

Another story that once again throws this situation into disarray, honestly what the hell is going on WB?

How people can say Bryan Singer doesnt get Superman and then at the same time want Miller to do a re-boot is just beyond me, THE ABOVE IS NOT SUPERMAN. Sorry but i dont want THAT ABOVE from a Superman movie, EVER   .

Well said!

Yeah, I know what you say. Same with Red Son, wasn't he very attracted to Lois there as well? I don't like Millar. I think he has a huge EGO. :down

# 4. W.B. doesnt have a clue.

HA HA HA...

When news is slow, this is what happens to us veterans :D

Neither.

Lets face it, Routh also doesnt know exactly status of MOS. Heck, not even Warner knows what they are going to do.

What Routh knows is that a script is being written. If warner will green light it, nobody knows. Singer is still finishing Valkyre, with scenes to be shot and edit it. Routh is working with an estimated time.

Millar, in other hand, didnt say Warner will do his version. All he said is that he is developing a script with a director and producer interest on it, and they will pitch this to Warner.

Whats the problem with that? Anyone can go to Warner and make a proposal, since Warner doesnt know what to do at this point. They are in a waiting game. So, if Millar and Co. wants to try, it is valid.

If any writer wants to try, its valid. Otherwise, W.B. would had green light it already.

Don't doubt the Routh! At least about what Singer thinks.

I'm 100% sure that the geniuses at WB don't know how to do a good summer movie. Their so called summer tentpoles are a list of megaflops and disappointments. After the megaflop of SpeedRacer (I saw a ton of toys unsold yesterday) they are having a panic attack.
Only Batman can save them from one of the worst summer ever.

I would bet on the fact that at WB they have not any good idea about the future of their sh franchises.
Someone wants to do a JLA movie with an old supermodel and 3 teens on board, another one is asking to split the last book of Harry Potter in 12 movies.
Maybe there is even some idiot ready to think that Hobbit will do the Lord of the Rings numbers.

Nevertheless there is still hope, flop after flop there will be some exec able to remember that the "horrible" Superman Returns was able to do $400m ww in the Summer of POTC2, and was considered by the critics one of the best sh movie ever.

Funny, Red Son was written by Millar.

The OP didnt really clarify. What the f*** are we talking about here?

I can appreciate that, and personally I liked seeing that too, however theres a point where the story can overtake the characters. I mean I have no problem with Superman having a serious story. But that still does not stop him from being Superman "truth justice and the american way" the most powerful being and i would have just liked to have seen more of it, i mean the bullet scene was really all we got for gods sake Luthor did more punching in that movie than Supes. I felt the only "Superman" moment he had in the movie was after the saved the plane he gave the remark "statistically air flight is still the safest way to travel". Thats it, the only true Superman feeling i got. The rest of the time i was like the good parts gotta be coming.

FINALLY, we actually agreed ISS :cwink: :woot:.

It makes me laugh, i'll admit i'm not the most open when it comes to defending SR, but how people can claim Millar gets it more than BS after reading those comments is beyond me

EXACTLY, thats practically the WHOLE reason he gives up.

You're right, in the next Superman film, they better give us 2 hours of punching, OR ELSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:whatever:.

At this point i honestly dont know, all i know is i dont want to see Millars version of Superman on the big screen anytime soon.

Ok, I was truly satisfied with the action I saw in the film. Loved the yacht rescue, Metropolis rescue, bullet scene, plane rescue (of course), but I gotta say that my favorite parts were 'goodbye, Lois', solar recharge, and the saving the world aka Superman gaving his life while lifting the island out into space. To me that scene was so powerful, poignant and awe-inspiring, and I prefer it to Supes punching a superbaddie (not that I don't want to see that some day). But that's me. I know that lots of people here prefer to have seen what you said. Hopefully you'll see that in the sequel, if there is one. :yay:

AGREED, it was so refreshing to see something more powerful than the generic fight scene at the end which has failed to impress me personally since Blade II and Spiderman 2. In SR, we got something so much more powerful and worthwhile, and truly worthy of The Man Of Steel.

I would be with you guys if I saw something awe inspiring but I didn't, so we go back to disagreeing, Jamon.:cwink: It's all good though, you guys are just wrong.:oldrazz:

WB.

With all do respect for Routh, who seems like a nice fella, he needs a sequel to happen because he's doesn't seem to be getting tons of great projects after what was supposed to be a big break out role. Singer didn't really show anything special about him and it might take another more charming/better Superman to get the big boys to look at him.

I'm sure he is better off than he was 5 years ago though...so thats something.

*Waits for the angry SR fans*

Same. He didnt really play up the dual role of Clark and Supes like Reeve did.

Anyway, I wont trust anyone on MOS until they roll film. Same goes for the Justice League. And The Flash. And Green Lantern. And....

that's because brandon had nothing to really work with. The movie was so devoid of story, substance, direction etc etc that brandon had to just go with the motions. I feel a better written & directed sequel will show ppl that Routh is far from this "WOOD" you speak of.

Steve

I dont wanna relate to Superman, thats why he is Superman.

I don't think many said they can "relate to Superman" mean in terms of his powers. It more of his moral beliefs (not religion I'm talking about there :p) & trying to do the right thing, even thought he isn't super with not being able to do everything like us. Isn't that what many of us as kids love about those heroes? Being related to the heroes doesn't always mean it about powers. It about who they are, which you can see why Spider-Man is popular with kids during his first app. in Amazing Fantasy #15.
