Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

well, if I were a girl and my (super)man left me like that......I would personally castrate him with Kryptonite laced chemicals..........:cmad: :hehe:

I dot agree here. Superman is nothing Godlike in SR. I dont see where this statments come from. I think ppl assume this more from Singer interviews than from movie itself.
No, it came from my own two eyes, but perhaps I should have said Christ analogies instead. One stands out as being very God or Christ like ( your choice). It was when he recharged with the sun and flew back to earth. The clouds parted and sunlight burst forth with him. If thats not Godlike, then I don't know what to tell you. I'm not complaining about this scene though, I loved it.

These scenes however did bother me. Not because of what they said, but because there were so darn many of them.
ie Superman falling to earth in a crucifix pose.
Superman getting stabbed in the side.
Jor-el speaking to Superman when he was under water.

That was just overkill IMHO, and I really hope there's not a repeat of it in M.O.S. One similar scene would be fine, but not three or four.

Look, I can understand and even respect why some liked or even loved those scene, but I didnt, not that many.

Whoa! And he keeps running his mouth about doing Superman like he has no shame. Agreed that if WB were thinking of reboot then will definitely look at Millar...just because a 51 million opener ain't nuthin to sneeze at.

Thanks Retro!
Though i'm very skeptical about Millar's claims, yes, i think this may improve his chances if Warners are still considering a reboot.
Wanted the film has nothing in common with Millars Wanted the comic, their are tiny similarities but for the most part its a completly diffrent story. Besides Wanted is a medicore film at best,
I haven't seen Wanted yet so it's hard for me to judge. The overall reaction from general audience and critics is positive even though a lot has been altered from the original comics.:o
not to mention Millar had nothing at all to do with the film.
Millar did have a contribution to the movie doing consultation and even writing some dialogue plus he's an exec producer.
Check it out here and here

what has Wanted's ( movie ) 50 milions to do with mark millar?

Because he wrote the comic the movie is based on, I believe (not to mention, as Retro pointed out, he was a producer and penned some dialogue).

Just because Mark Millar wants to do a Superman Movie, doesn't mean he is going to.

Yep. It more of a wet dream for him. I like the guy, but he should never put his hands on a Superman film. Never. If they ever let him use the crazy idea he want for the film, it would make SR look like "Gone with the Wind". :oldrazz:

but is he a good writter? bmaybe they could use him as a writter to writte WB's and singers story.

remember guys hes idea is bad IMO. is he a bad writter?

I'm totally for a SR sequel but one comment I agree is that the film lost something in the editing suite. I think there was a better film made but it wasn't the one that was released. That said I still think a sequel is the way to go if we want to see a Superman film in the next five years.

I've been reading what Mark Millar has been saying and find his comments to be entirely of self-interest, creating propaganda to fulfill his own ambitions. Stating that the "last movie lost $200m" is ill informed and his actions could contribute to killing off any new Superman movie, reboot or sequel.

The thing about W.B. that really irks me is when someone like this comes out spouting off stuff, they remain silent.
It's as if they like shooting themselves in the foot or something.

The WB is not going to say anything about Superman because of what happened with Justice League. They this time around just wants to keep everything quiet and just release something once they got the scrit in and I think the villain cast. Much like how they did with the Dark Knight.

All they'd have to say to get some positive buzz going is four little words. "the-sequel-is-happening" or "A-reboot-is-happening''.

It's not like they gotta reveal the villain or something.

Mark MIller has at least some knowledge about the character, unlike Singer and most of the guys that are posting here.

Did you watch the documentary "The Amazing Story of Superman" Singer made before SR came out?! It was really good and showed Singer had a great deal of knowledge of Supes. Know how he chose to use it is another question and debate altogether, but Millar truly has no grasp of Superman at all!

Well, Bryan Singer was only one of the two executive producers on that project. It was directed by the other executive producer, Kevin Burns, and written by James Grant Goldin and Steven Smith. I would say that they're the ones with the real knowledge of Superman, although if I watched the documentary again, I could probably pick out some factual flaws in it, but if Bryan Singer knows anything about Superman, I'd say it's only what he learned from watching the documentary when it was finished.

Regardless, I think it's ridiculous and unfair to say Singer has no knowledge of the character at all. I mean any director of a superhero movie does some research of that particular character.

Now like I said, the direction he chose to go with that character can be argued. That's all in how you felt about SR.

Sure he did some research, he watched Superman from 1978. That was all the research he felt he needed to do apparently.

WB doesn't have to acknowledge the rants of Mark Millar. The guy is passionate about Superman which is good, but do you know how long he has been trying to get his hands on a Superman Film? I think WB is pretty used to it by now.

It's definitely frustrating to the fans to be kept in the dark, but It's probably in the studio's best interest to remain silent. After all the false starts they've had over the years in regards to this franchise and the way Justice League fell apart at the last minute, I can understand their hesitation to announce anything, until it's 100% a sure thing.

I really don't want Millar on charge of the Superman franchise ever. I don't like the vibe he gives or the way he expresses himself, and he has a HUGE ego. IMO, he sounds so wrong for Superman. Besides, why should Bryan be guilty and responsible for all the money wasted on false starts on Superman on film done by the WB?? I think SR was a very good movie and a good way to reintroduce Supes to the big screen. It wasn't a huge hit, but it wasn't a flop either. It got good reviews and made nearly $400 mil WW, which means that lots of people saw it and liked it. It deserves a sequel, and I really want one with Bryan and Brandon.

That makes sense.

Sure he did some research, he watched Superman from 1978. That was all the research he felt he needed to do apparently.

He also watched the Fleischers cartoons, and the George Reeves tv show, and I'm sure Dan read some of the comics. I read that in an interview he gave.

I do not really want Millar on the project either. But his stuff and things he says about Superman sound SO RIGHT. "disguised as Clark Kent", the true champion of humanity, not same flawed Peter Parker rip-off or a farmboy who happens to have superpowers. But I really despise Millar's work on the Marvel characters.
