Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

This is good news, down with the Singer and the Routh!!!

I'd love to see a re invented Superman...that superman returns film was to much like the original ones, i think its a good idea. if they can have so many different interpretations of batman why not superman?

Why is it so hard for you to accept that other people did not like Superman Returns? I am mystified by how personal you seem to take this stuff. Whether you like it or not, there is a group of Superman fans who don't like Superman Returns. I'm sorry, but thats how it is.
But there are also MANY people who happen to like Superman Returns. I'm sorry, but that's how it is! LONG LIVE THE CURRENT SUPERMAN FRANCHISE!!! :woot: I really think that there is something going on behind the scenes that we don't know about yet, and I just have a feeling that something is going to happen soon. I don't quite know what it is, but I just have a feeling.

I truly question this kind of thinking. So what if he's an American icon? Thats the defense DC readers always use against Marvel "DC's heroes are more iconic." Who gives a damn? Being iconic does not make you interesting. I think people put way too much into the iconic status.

Didn't the filmmakers and WB already make this mistake? Thinking the fact that its Superman would be enough to sell the movie?

I did't say nor did I mean to imply that people will simply see a movie b/c it has Superman in it. I believe that it has to be interesting and fun for people to see MOS. If it is then people will be more than willing to see the movie and forget about the last one. The last Star Wars prequel was a good example of making a better film and more people being willing to see it.

By that same token, I think if the MOS isn't any good people won't wnna see it.

Of course I am aware there are people who like Superman Returns. When did I say there wasn't? But I don't take it personally or get sick to my stomach when someone doesn't agree with my opinion of the movie.

Millar.... Still as full of **** as he ever was.

I'm sure there is a lot of drama in here, personally i'm fine either way.

Drama in here? Never.

That being said, Mark Millar is a passionate Superman fan. If you are actually working with a studio on a project that hasn't been announced or even hinted at, and there is another directior working with the same property who is already signed, you don't shoot off at the mouth like this. It is unprofessional among other things.

Voicing your opinion on projects youd like to work on or future goals you may have is shooting your mouth off?

Yep.

Also, after reading Millar's ideas...they're not all that different from Donner/Singer. I'm sure he'd make Lex Luthor a businessman/mobster but other than having Superman not sleep with Lois, they're very close (and I doubt after SR Lois and Clark will be intimate again). I mean they both subscribe to the biblical Jesus-like Superman who comes to earth to redeem and lead us to a better was as an immigrant who is closer to Jor-El's voice loops than the actual parents who raised him. He even goes through the "death and resurrection" in SR. I mean other than the kid being around, Singer and Millar see eye-to-eye on a lot.

Why reboot for more of the same? The movies have stayed pre-crisis, which Millar obviously prefers.

As for the pre/post arguments I've skimmed through in this thread. While I'm for spirited debate much of it ends with "I'm right and you're wrong." CAn people just not accept there are two legitimate and distinct takes on the character (with countless variations within those takes)? It is all about personal preference. One is not more right than the other. As for me, as a concept and on paper I prefer the God-like allegory as I always thought post-crisis Superman is a little too Marvel and has a little too much of certain Marvel characters in him. But to read or watch (STAS) on a weekly or monthly basis, post-crisis is far more enjoyable and comprehensive.

Saying you're doing Superman is not talking about future goals. If you are a professional you don't start talking about deals you are making with studios before they are even close to happening. Plus, he has done this eleventeen times.

AMEN!

Millar is a moron... oh wait... frickin' moron.

Millar is going to destroy Superman franchise, especially a reboot. I don't want him to near the movie. EVER.

i hate the idea of keeping the current superman series alive, in 2006 they should have only brought one thing back to superman, and that is the music...and if millar makes the movie, and the reboot like batman...i for one am totally on board...i hate brian singer...only movies he has ever made worth anything are usual suspects and xmen...
i think a reboot would be great, look at batman...and cast a better superman...someone less christoper reeveish, let the donnerverse die with mr. reeve.

Doing a reboot origin Superman movie is a waste of time and money IMO.

I'm not excited about Millars pitch....

The only way you can sort of have a reboot and stay true to Singer's vision is by letting Singer do a sequal which has Superman Vs WonderWoman...Supes can no longer be with Lois because of the whole she's getting married to Cyclops and has a kid...so a new reporter appears at the Daily Planet: Diana Prince. Something strange is going down...people with God-Like powers are appearing in Metropolis...Greek Gods like Perseus have gone bad and are challenging the likes of Supes. Diana steps in and a love triangle between Supes/Diana/Lois is created. And supes can have a whirlwind romance with wonder woman. Imagine two powerful beings like Supes & Wonder Woman fighting the Greek Gods in Modern Metropolis?! It would be rad! So you get to reboot the supes franchise and start up the very hard to jumpstart Wonder Woman franchise. The Gods find out supes has a child and they kidnap him...and the only person who can play Wonder Woman and has box office clout (see WANTED) is ANgelina Jolie!

If a reboot was done I would want Williams back... but you know what? For a totally new score. I know how classic the theme is, but I think he could come up with something new that doesn't quite take you back to a different era. If there is a reboot I don't want nostalgia to Donner, I want it to stand on its own.

That would be nice....

Mark Waid or Geoff Johns?

Whatever you want. :cwink:

Millar is a moron... oh wait... frickin' moron.

We don't need to call the guy names here. The guy is talented in my opinion, it just doesn't mean he is doing a Superman movie.

Cause everyone knows SR saved the franchise
