Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

Millar might have a great idea for a reboot, but SR just needs a stronger sequel.
To backtrack, I thought the guys who wrote Transformers were writing the screenplay. All they need is more action and another villain besides Lex. It seems like Singer, Routh and WB are all on the same page.

*Sighs* Hulk is proof that these things do not work, Once a franchise is tainted thats it.

I agree, but why are they trying to convince SR lovers that a sequel is not happening? Are they just trying to get attention because if they are it's working, and it's annoying as hell.:cmad:

I dont think its annoying in the least, I think its refreshing that these two are fighting to give this great character a better chance. In essence the name of their site is fitting as it seems Superman actually needs saving.

What we see in SR is a man (SUperman) who is so self-absorbed and emotionally weak that he doesn't say goodbye to Lois in a situation in which he CLEARLY is morally obligated b/c of their sexual relationship. He's a deadbeat. The fact that he doesn't know Lois is pregnant is beside the point. Perhaps deadbeat doesn't work for you- how about jerk, assh----, shmuck or loser? Would that work better for you? WOuld that be somehow more accurate or 'better' than being a deadbeat dad?

However, I didn't see SUperman at the end of SR taking the reings on parenthood for Jason. I saw him content to let Richard do his job. Yeah, SUperman's real involved in Jason's life. He's a deadbeat whether he gives money or not. He's not being an everyday father to Jason. As a parent I can tell you if you cannot do that for your children you ARE a deadbeat. 'Deadbeat' is in there if you expand your understanding of real parental and sexual responsibility to account for what is best for children.

Dont forget his extremly flawed Morale, I mean his set himself up for hypocrisy. Think about Superman flying by one night and he spots some punk in a tree with a telescope checking out his ex and her new boyfriend, isnt that the dilema I mean what do you do? Since you yourself are also a tree sitting ex watching weirdo, its simple you have no choice but to fly by because you do it to. What Singer gave us wasnt a relateable Superman but an extremly flawed one who had issues.

Millar's version would peep and beat the other guy to a pulp then tell the audience to go **** themselves.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that's wanted and are you aware Millar has done a run on Superman before, a run that is highly praised.

Never read it, but from what I read of his mos ideas he's dead wrong on Superman's characterization so kudos on whatever editor kept him in check.

Thing is, the GP doesn't care about Hulk. The franchise is not tainted just because some fans thinks so. If a boring/dull/whatever movie like SR can make $391mil worldwide, then if they do fix the main problems, like having someone Superman could fight, then it can make way more than SR did.

Well if people went to see the film because it was Superman the first time, once they experienced the mess that was Returns do you really think they will go back? Like the first Hulk film people learnt their lesson from it. I believe a reboot is needed but we have to wait a bit longer and then bring in a new film that blows everyone away.

I think if people see Superman punching someone and getting punched and I mean in big fight, through buildings and stuff, in the trailer, they'll watch it. The GP didn't care that there was no S on Superman's cape, or that the red was too dark, or even that Superman had a kid. SR isn't as hated as some of you make it out to be. I guess the haters are just more vocal (if that's the right word. English isn't my first language).

I think a sequel to SR, if done right, can make a lot of money. Yes, a reboot could make a lot of money too and maybe even more, but imo it's more risky than a sequel. What happens if the movie takes another 20 years to get made and what if it's another SR (for those that didn't like it), or even worse? Plus, they'd have to spend more money on a reboot than a sequel.

But anyway...I'd be fine with either at this point. I just want a Superman movie. I do want Routh as Superman again, which is the main reason I want a sequel to SR, but I just want a new Superman movie and seeing as how I liked Routh, there's a chance I'll like the new guy (if we get a reboot) too.

I really hated Civil War in the comics, so the idea of Millar on Superman made me cringe, but recognizing my bias, I tried to at least hear his take on the character.

Now that I have, I DEFINITELY hope he never gets his hooks on Superman.

 Its just funny to me that the same people saying that Singer doesnt get Superman are the same ones lobbying for Millar's take on the character when it is just plain wrong.

 He couldnt be MORE wrong on Supermans characterisation.

I think with the BO performance of TIH, all this re-boot nonsense for every single CB franchise will go away, does that mean we will get an SR sequel? Couldnt tell you, but i doubt WB are thinking re-boot at the moment.

Ahhh, not to get too off-topic...

What we see in SR is a man (SUperman) who is so self-absorbed and emotionally weak that he doesn't say goodbye to Lois in a situation in which he CLEARLY is morally obligated b/c of their sexual relationship.

What sexual relationship? We know they had sex once at least. That doesn't makes them f*** buddies.

He's a deadbeat. The fact that he doesn't know Lois is pregnant is beside the point.

Why would it be besides the point? He's a deadbeat if he knows he has a son and decides to not give support to the kid. He obviously did NOT know he had a kid before leaving.

Perhaps deadbeat doesn't work for you- how about jerk, assh----, shmuck or loser? Would that work better for you? WOuld that be somehow more accurate or 'better' than being a deadbeat dad?

No, it would be just as innacurate as deadbeat dad, actually.

However, I didn't see SUperman at the end of SR taking the reings on parenthood for Jason. I saw him content to let Richard do his job.

Do you know anything about movies? The movie had to end. You wanted to see Superman sitting down with Lois signing papers and pulling the Super wallet and then...*THE END** Yawn. And what makes you think Superman would be content to let Richard "do his job?" Did I miss that after-credits scene?

Yeah, SUperman's real involved in Jason's life. He's a deadbeat whether he gives money or not. He's not being an everyday father to Jason.

LOL, show me all this deleted footage, that must be called "Life after SR." Please, the more SR, the merrier I Am The Knight gets. And a "deadbeat" is, by definition, someone who refuses to give money to their kids: "Deadbeat parent, a parent that has freely chosen not to financially support their children."

As a parent I can tell you if you cannot do that for your children you ARE a deadbeat. 'Deadbeat' is in there if you expand your understanding of real parental and sexual responsibility to account for what is best for children.

Have you seen what Superman has done for Jason? I mean, after letting him sleep n' stuff, that night, at the end of SR. Please provide any footage you may have.

Man I'm getting so tired of the whole "deadbeat dad" argument/debate!

*Sighs* Hulk is proof that these things do not work, Once a franchise is tainted thats it.

Superman is no where near tainted whats the worst that's happened oh he has a kid omg he has a kid what are we going to do in a sequal oh i know, show clark trying to get involved in the kids life as two monsters show up and try to destroy the world he lives in. Bam~! As for Hulk please would people stop saying it failed. The movie didnt make 300 mil get over it that isnt a failer thats just fanboys that got over hyped expecting big ass numbers when it just did good summer numbers.

Oh don't get me wrong, I think that Superman does need a reboot like Batman. But I don't like it when people give out false info and then try to go back on what they said.

A Superman that thinks he is above humanity rather than part of it, a Superman who cant fall in love with a human woman because he is above that, need i say more?

Just a part of him is part of humanity, the other one is an outsider, "not one of them". So I don't see the problem. If he saw himself about humanity... well than he would be realistic, wouldn't he :woot:

The Lois part... well... I don't think Superman and Lois should ever come together... there is tension... but.

Whats the name of the chic in your avatar?

Geez man! You completely ignore my post...............all for a rican chick with an amazing ass! :cmad:

I don't know who she is. :csad:
