Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

I really dont want Millar on this. The guy's a good comic writer, but I dont like his ideas for Superman. Some of them aren't bad, but others are downright terrible. I dont like his ideas for the Superman/Lois/Clark relationship especially, or his characterization of Superman and Lois in general.

Also, if it's true that this director he's talking about is Michael Bay, also no thanks. I like Bay for what he does, but Superman isn't the right kind of movie for him.

Gotta agree with all of this, Bay is simply more suited to Transformers, and I am a TF fan BTW.

And Millar's ideas on Superman are, IMO, simply diabolical, a Superman who thinks he is above humanity? NO, I honestly cant believe some people actually want this guy working on a new Superman movie. Especially after the complaints about Superman's characterisation in SR.

i for one am excited about Millar.

I feel kinda sorry for Millar really.

You can tell that the man really loves Superman and would really like to do something more with Superman than just Red Son and Superman Adventures which have no impact at all on who Superman is.

Unfortunately with the way DC is right now, even if he decided not to renew his exclusive agreement with Marvel, they would never give him the privilege to write Superman or Action Comics. His style just isn't suited for the direction that the Superman comics are in right now.

And unless Singer is off the Superman movie franchise he's never going to be part of a Superman movie.
prophetic words. looks like Millar may finally get his shot.

Del Toro had little interest in LOTR, before he met Jackson while talkign about Halo.
from what i know Del Toro is an LOTR movie fanboy. and he looked just like one when the first official photo of him and PJ was released after it was announced that he's signed to do The Hobbit

I am going to laugh and cry at the same time if Tom Welling gets the gig. Laugh because there are so many people that ripped apart Tom Welling fans, and cry because I am going to have to clean up the mess.
ROTFL! :funny:

I hope the director ain't Brett Hackner...

I hope the director ain't Brett Hackner...
Don't worry, he's making a movie about Guitar Hero. Or Spider solitaire. Or Tetris.. can't remember

i dont get it, why do you all hate on Bay, his movies are entertaining

I find bay's movies entertaining as well, there action movies not oscar contenders. I really don't think its bay though, the guy has transformers. I'm guessing its someone else that people just havent mentioned because an american action movie director can be anyone.

What worries me the most about millar is that he has been planning this for so many years as he says. I think at this point if any of his ideas suck he will be so stubborn not to change them because when you work on something that long you almost don't want to hear criticisms.

Second, filming three movies at the same time might not be as great as everyone thinks it is. Theres an article about how pirates lost money just trying to meet the deadlines and I don't think WB would want that seeing as how they have to recover from SR this time around.

Really they need someone who will develop the story like goyer and get a great writer to do this because we all saw how much of an improvement TDK was over BB.

I don't dislike Bay, but I think Warner Bros. can do better. Bay's movies are entertaining, but I don't think they stand the test of time very well.

Superman is more than just "entertainment"... There's a reason why people refer to Bay as a hack. He won't be into it. I need someone who cares. Superman is the greatest superhero ever created, dammitt.

A Michael Bay Superman film is almost entirely dependent on the quality and type of script. If they go the epic/dramatic angle, we'll get PEARL HARBOR :cmad: OR if they go the for the fun, popcorny, blockbuster angle, well get TRANSFORMERS :csad: OR if it goes for the fun, blockbusterish, yet dramatuic and funny angle, we'll gert ARMAGEDDON...:)

A superman film ala Armageddon could work really well, actually. Armageddons the best disaster film around (aside from Titanic) in terms of emotion, tension, ect. The reason its generally disguared by critics is its horrendous plot of landin gon a asteriod and blowing it up.

i wonder who the director is that approached him??

also didn't another writer say the exact same thing a few months back?

It's always about the money DarkB, always! SR was that type of movie you mention and look how that turned out. Probably WB wants a safe Superman movie, one with lots of action, super villains, no melodrama or overcomplex scheme. Bay is perfect fit for all those options, look at Transformers!

NOOOOOOOOOO!! I HATE BAY'S MOVIES, especially Transformers!! They are so dumb and cliched most of the time. Terrible if it's true. Poor Supes. *sigh*

Please God, let it be NOT true. Superman deserves better than Bay. :down:down:mad:

Oh, But LOVELY AVVY, millennium movies!

BRING ROUTH BACK!

Doesn't anyone remember back when Ratner was booted that Bay said he had no interest in doing a Superman movie? It was a radio interview, and he said he really had no desire to do comic book properties.

Bay for more Transformers.
Bay for Superman.  :

Agreed!

I think Millar is all wrong for Superman...get Geoff Johns to write a script and I'd go see that.

Agreed. NO TO MILLAR!!

YES TO GEOFF JOHNS!!

SR was intelligent?

Yes, it is.

And it's nice to know that Bryan Singer is still in second place as a favorite choice to direct a Superman "Reboot". Just let him direct his sequel, WB. You know it makes sense. He can deliver an amazing sequel, even better than X-Men 2.

wel the guys who were saying that SR was a disaster ,bomb and like B&R would deserve a millar movie directed by bay.

but i already know what will happen. some people will still complain when we get the new superman movie.
maybe the fanbase wont be 50/50. maybe it will be 40/60 or 30/70. but to those who are in the 30% range it will still suck.
we will see how all of this will turn out.

he said american director that is now ''in''. who else could it be?

i need some names.

millar looks like a guy who is full of BS. if hedoesnt get the job you can expect an interview where he will twist the story.

I'm not entirely sure about Millar, but I voted "It's Millar time!" because it's been a few months since I had a beer... Sam Adams is better tho.

I really think it's Bay or Abrams.

I voted Millar just because I would definitely rather see Millar's take over a sequel to SR. However, I would definitely prefer to hear what Geoff Johns' proposal was. He is one of my top 5 fave comic writers. I think Johns would definitely bring something interesting and fantastic to the table. But I also think that Millar has the chance of doing something different and good. Who knows.... I'm just really excited that they are doing a reboot. Batman Begins was just an amazing reboot.... and even the Hulk reboot was great. I've said for a while that a reboot is the best way to go for Superman and I'm really happy that they are finally doing it. I'm sure it'll be great.
