Mark Wahlberg is the Six Billion Dollar Man

I have never seen the original series. It's good, right? And I should waste money on it, right?

Good... Is a relative term. The early episodes are the best, but there was a lot of 70's TV cheese. That's not just about the SFX mind you. The later stuff gets really goofy, with stuff like bionic sasquatches... I kid you not! But the basic premise is sound and a modern spin has lots of potential I think.

The trailer DEMANDS those lines get spoken. I can already see it. At first, with Wahlberg getting into a jet in full flight gear, some dialog calling him Steve but at first it's unclear what the movie is. Then the crash, Austin in the ER, tears, emotional music... Then a man comes into the room and makes Steve an offer. "Col. Austin... You may not believe this... But we can rebuild you. We have the technology. We can make you better than you were before... Faster... Stronger..." Cue the remixed theme music and quick cuts of Austin testing his abilities, then titles card. Crowd goes wild.

I actually think the words shouldn't be spoken directly to Steve Austin, as in the original series rather than just spoken to the doctors or researchers in some room.

The really frustrating thing for me with this film is I was trying to convince a production company to do a short film based on this. I had written a script that sort of updated the whole premise for modern times.

Okay then...

(Outside ER surgery room, military uniformed men and Doctors running back and forth)

Doctor 1: I am telling you, that this man... He's barely alive. I am not just going to release him into your custody! He's touch and go... If he even makes it out of that operating room... He's lost an arm, his legs, he's got spinal fractures up and down the column, four major organs are failing...

Doctor 2: he's looking at life... What's left of it, inside an iron lung, if he's lucky. We can't place him in your hands...

Goldman: I don't think you quite understand... We are taking custody of Col. Austin. But I assure you we are going to take the utmost care of him... Gentlemen... WE can rebuild him. We have the technology... WE can make him better than he was before. Faster... Stronger...

I like cheese.

Yes, the Sasquatch:woot: saw a clip from it in 2007 or something. I bet it scared a lot of kids back in the 70s.

Not necessarily doctors. Maybe there is a board meeting at the OSI where some investors aren't convinced they should spend 6 billion dollars and Goldman can make a speech to them inspiring them to have faith in the project. He can say "this is Steve Austin, a man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology..." etc.

Everything can seem cheesy. Spider-Man in the 70s TV series was cheesy. Captain America's TV movies were cheesy. Hulk's Tv series was cheesy. The big budget versions done with modern standards and technology will definitely be better.

It can't be any worse than this (2 minutes and 30 seconds in):

6MDM was way better than Manimal.

I think the time is right for a remake of this series to thrive with all the super hero movies coming out.

This is one thing that didn't need to be revived, and Wahlberg's involvement doesn't make it any more interesting.

Someone should revive Night Man:hehe: why isn't it out on DVD?

(The comic was pretty good. Or maybe it's terrible...it's been some years since I read it. Oh, and just to piss people off: Scott Adkins should play Night Man. In fact, he should play every comic book character in the world. Even Aunt May)

I wondered that myself
if i'm not mistaken Disney now owns nightman via it's ownership of marvel which chose to sit on the character in favor of their own super-heroes

It's sad when they just "forget" comic book characters. Night Man (the comic book version) was a bit of a Batman ripoff, but still pretty interesting. Able to hear evil thoughts. In reality, his head would explode. Just imagine all those thoughts..."I'm going to fart in public, and then blame it on the guy beside me!" Or "I'm not going to wear seatbelts today. That'll show them!"

I have only watched two or three episodes of the series. I would have loved the crap out of it as a kid...:woot:

So who would people cast as Jaime Sommers? She would have to be good enough to headline her own spin off if the opportunity arose.

BTW Wahlberg already played an astronaut in another remake: Planet of the apes.

Do you think this new version of Steve Austin will need a bionic back? How else will he lift up all these cars and other heavy objects? It seems reasonable that his spine could have been shattered in the crash, necessitating a bionic spine as well, and not just the original two legs, one right arm and one bionic eye.

I think he needs two bionic arms, two bionic legs, a bionic eye and a bionic spine.

Also, will his eye have other capabilities other than allowing him to see far?

BTW, this probably will mean that DC/WB's Cyborg movie will almost definitely not go by that name now, since people might associate the Six Billion Dollar Man with the original "Cyborg" novel upon which it is based.

RIP Simon McCorkindale. Every time they needed a smart-sounding Englishman to elevate some incredibly stupid project, he was your man.

Emily Blunt.

Anyone else have this…it was one of my favorites!:woot:

I never had that because it was impossible to get, but I did have Jaime Sommers. I recently got a new version of her a few years back in pretty mint condition. Couldn't find one of Steve Austin though.

Which version of Jaime did you have? The one in the white and blue tracksuit from the pilot or the one in the blue jumpsuit (which never actually featured in an episode)? I only had the blue jumpsuit version.

I would love it if Hot Toys made some figures of the characters with modern technology. Would also be cool if we got a whole new set of toys based on this movie.

There were those Meggo-styled Six Million Dollar Man toys by Bif Bam Pow a couple of years ago.

The fembots (and any bionic character with the removable faceplate) were pretty creepy but also very iconic.

I don't know about Emily Blunt as Jaime though. I don't really see either any physical resemblance or even any of her character in Emily.
