With the news of at least two other films opening August 15th, FOX has two options: spend a lot of money on marketing, or move the date. This isn't a thread to debate whether or not to move the date, but a thread to discuss how much you think they will spend on marketing.

I don't think FOX will pour that much advertising money into a franchise that hasn't proven itself yet.

I think you are overestimating the fan base for Dragonball. It is not the household name that Star Wars is.

I see this movie getting around the same amount of advertising that similarly exposed Marvel movies have received (Daredevil, Fantastic Four 1, Elektra, Ghostrider...etc). They are not characters that the general populace will be familiar with and are moreso risks to the movie company than something that has proven itself in the box office like Star Wars.

I'm sure fans of Elektra appreciate the lmao. Regardless of your amusement...Dragonball is not the household name that you think it is.

What kind of household are we talking about? lol

And what fans? It was a crappy spin-off from Daredevil, I think? I enjoyed Daredevil to some degree, but Elektra?

    American households.

It was an example. And I'm pretty sure that the studios did some form of marketing studies before they decided to take a risk of making a spinoff of Daredevil. There had to have been some positive response.

Ok. But surely you don't think Dragonball will flop, with its fairly huge fan base?

Not a single promo pic has been released and already people are excited..

Of course...fans are excited. How many non fans do you know who are excited though?

And honestly, I don't think it will flop. I'm just saying that I don't think the studio is going to pour ridiculous amounts of money into marketing this movie.

I know a girl (gasp) who doesn't like dragonball and she said she is looking forward to it.

I know a guy who doesn't like dragonball but likes James Wong, so he said he'd see it.

I know a few people who are anime fans but don't like dragonball in particular and said they'd see it.

And Rotten Tomatoes, IGN, and a few other sites have comments from non-dragonball fans who say stuff like "Chow Yun-Fat? This movie could be interesting.."

Oh and I guess I should mention my guild on WoW. I mentioned the movie and they all said "they are making a movie? wow.." so I'm doing my share in promoting this movie :p

Honestly, I would call most of those instances passing anticipation more than excitement.

I think some of you people who underestimate the quantity of DBZ fans are seriously in need of some help. I think that the amount of DBZ fans out there are immense! Whenever the DBZ series box sets come out, I hear people talking about them. I don't go to the internet to search, no, I actually hear them. Talking.

And guess what? They aren't all DBZ fanatics! Go figure!

Once you see a trailer of any sort come out, people will flock to see it. Kids will want to see it. Teens with nastalgic memories will see it. Adults with nastolgic memories will see it! And even the people who just heard of it will go if they hear Chow Yun-Fat's in it, the guy from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

    Need I go on?

I bet all three of you are DB fans.

If you weren't...then your enthusiasm would apply. But if you are...then it doesn't.

Wait til you see some polls about which movies are the most anticipated...I really don't think a Dragonball movie, directed by a 2nd rate director, starring a virtual no-name like Chatwin, is going to be in the top.

They did a poll like that on the front page of SHH a month or two ago, Dragonball was no. 4 ahead of Hellboy and Hancock, and a few others.
