Marvel at the Movies: Open Discussion

Was anyone else kind of let down by First Class? I had hoped that it would be as good or better than X-2, but it just wasn't imo.

Thanks Alexei. I really just think that Marvel Studios needs to rethink their priorities after the Avengers is released. Obviously, Avengers has been their goal since they were founded, which is what resulted in the rushed Cap and Thor movies. My hope, is that post Avengers, they won't have to worry about anything they're rushing towards and give the individual films more time and attention without fear of meeting insane deadlines. From everything we've seen on the Avengers set and the news coming out, I'd say we've got something to look forward to. I'm still a little worried, but I do have a lot of faith in Whedon and if nothing else, RDJ's Iron Man is gonna put a lot of people in those seats. I'm really anxious to see how Disney decides to market this thing.

ThePowerCosmic, I wasn't let down by First Class. The only weak links in that chain, I think, would be January Jones as Emma Frost and the not so strong supporting cast. The story was supposed to be about Xavier and Magneto, and I think they succeeded in that, but the other mutants weren't as interesting as I would have liked them to be. Beast and Mystique were represented pretty well I thought. Not to say that the other mutants didn't have good moments, but I think the hardest thing they were dealing with was the fact that they just weren't the original X-Men team. Xavier and Beast were the only two there who were original X-Men. That's not First Class' fault, it's Fox and Bryan Singers' for changing around the cast. If it were me, I would have stuck with the original golden age team: Beast, Cyclops, Angel, Ice Man and Marvel Girl. Can't remember if Storm was in the original. But I don't think we got anything less than something great with FC.

If you think about it, Wolverine has been the only well represented mutant/X-Man in the past films. I'm glad we finally got one where he didn't have to be a focus. Especially after two heinous attempts to rethink his character. In all honesty, I'm kind of bored with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. I thought he nailed it pretty good in X1, but I need him to re-sell me again, because after X2 all I saw was Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine, not Wolverine.

I just hope that The Avengers doesnt have a rushed Climax.
It seems to be a problem with most of the movies from Marvel Studios.

Something I didn't like about Beast was the lack of his amazing agility. I was expecting to see some great things from him, moves similar to what he did in X3 but all he did was run super fast in the training scene and use his claws in the last battle. Charles and Erik were great in the movie though, absolutely loved them.

And with Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 due for summer of 2013, I hope they don't feel rushed at all. Seems like they're tiring these actors out with all of these movies.

I think more accurately than a rushed Climax there finale fight scenes are by far the worst part of almost every marvel movie except TIH.

Which is both a good and bad thing. It means the rest of there movies are generally really solid (which they are) but a fantastic fight would just seal the deal

Well, thats what ,I meant by Rushed Climax
IM2 is a perfect example .
That fight was over in less than 2 minutes.

He could have had some better action sequences, sure, but if you think about it, Beast never trained for combat. He was their pilot and science wiz. He had really just received his new Beast form and I'm betting he hadn't really gotten used to it right away. We'll probably see better things from him in the next film.

He and the other students were represented in a way I've always wanted to see though. Being, Charles talking with them and teaching them how to use their powers. That was probably my favorite sequence in the movie. It's funny that with the Singer movies, we saw the kids in school, but we only saw them taking regular classes, never anything that taught them how to harness their powers, which is what the institute is for in the first place. Instead we got a less than thrilling Danger Room session in the 3rd film. FC felt like it was perfectly in its element. I hope to see more of the same in the future.

Definitely, I loved that sequence as well. Wow, now that I think about it you're absolutely right about Singer not having that aspect of the school in his movies.

Singer didnt use the Danger Room in the first two X pictures because of budgetary concerns .
And he produced FC .

Yeah, it's pretty easy to overlook when the focus was so obviously elsewhere. Not that it was a bad focus, just not the one I was hoping for.

I didn't really care to see the Danger Room in general, just young mutants learning about their powers, which I applaud FC for doing.

Anyone remember the rumors of a Punisher/Daredevil crossover back in '05? I've been looking for the article for almost an hour now. All I remember was Avi Arad talking about it while being asked if there was going to be a sequel to DD. He said something about the premise of a "VS" movie looking more viable than doing another solo DD film. At the time, scripting for Jonathan Hensleigh's Punisher II was underway & at one point a scene from Ennis' first Punisher run where Castle is confronted by DD actually made it into the draft. Now THAT is a crossover I'd love to see. My guess is FOX & LGF never came to an agreement, which is why DD was turned into a female FBI agent in the script (until it became the horror that was War Zone). Like HEAT, Murdock could play Pacino to Castle's DeNiro where he initially sets out to bring him in until eventually realizing Castle is a necessary evil & lets him go. That movie, starring Thomas Jane & Michael C. Hall as DD, would eclipse everything the MCU has done so far.

Can Galactus be in a Marvel Studios movie? I mean he's not technically part of the Fantastic Four..and they never really showed him in any of the FF movies..

Could Dan Ketch show up in the Marvel Studios universe also? I mean he's a Spirit of Vengeance, but not Johnny Blaze.

Can't say I have, but you bring up an interesting point.

Would Fox ever consider putting their Marvel franchises in a crossover? The ones they own anyway? It's bad enough that they still have rights to certain likenesses such as the Kingpin, which I would really like to belong to Spidey, so bringing those heroes and stories together could only help things IMO. DD could definitely use some better representation and sticking him with Punisher is something I can see working on paper. I would go so far as to add Moon Knight to that roster as well. There was a great Ultimate Spidey arc that included DD, Moon Knight and various other NYC heroes teaming up to take down the Kingpin and it worked really well. There's plenty of raw crime drama to pull from with those characters going up against Kingpin, so if they're gonna use him they might as well make it a group effort. It would really show off how far reaching the Kingpin's influence is.

Galactus was used in FF: Silver Surfer. It was a cloud, but they still used the name. He won't be showing up in the MCU unless they get the rights to FF back. Dan Ketch is a maybe I guess, but I don't see Marvel Studios going after a Ghost Rider type character anytime soon.

Think about it, DK Ghost Rider, Blade, Dr. Strange, Vengeance, the Nightstalkers, werewolf by night, ...they could possibly make a supernatural Avengers type movie.

I liked it! Could have been better, but I thought it was great. Loved the story, loved how they explained how Beast and Mystique aged slower, and loved the balance of action sequences and relashonship scenes. I also had a wierd crush on pretty much every male lead....
Including Banshee. Ecspeacialy Banshee:hrt:

I was looking at the Avengers wiki page, and apparently there's a rumor that Garret Dillahunt is in talks to play Vision, which I think would be perfect, I hope there's some truth to that. Vision should definitely be in the Avengers sequel.

Weird rumor.
Too early for Vision.
But,I agree ,
Vision in Sequels wouldnt be a bad idea.

is nobody going to make a joke about rushed climaxes?............

oh well sigh

I am looking forward to ASM.
I have recently discovered that there are some fans who are upset about this Spider_Man reboot because its based on Ultimate Spider-Man.
It's all Spidey to me ,
Even Miles Morales, The New Ultmate Spider-Man .
You watch,
Someday, Miles will have his own film.

Eh, it'll be a long time before that happens. At this point we're not even sure if the Ultimate Universe is gonna keep him around for very long. I haven't really seen any good or bad reception for him right now. Lately I've been thinking that the next big event that the Ultimate universe should throw at us is a resurrection event. If you look at what they've done, they have killed off most of the popular characters most readers readily identify with like, Cyclops, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Wasp, Pym, Mangeto, Xavier, and now Spidey. Most of those guys are poster boys for Marvel, especially Peter Parker. A lot of people say that Ultimate people stay dead, but Cap, Thor and Valkyrie have all come back from Hell in the Ultimate universe, so it's nothing anyone should rule out.

As far as the reboot goes, I wouldn't say it's based on USM, so much as the ideas of reinventing the character and bringing him into modern day are all ideas founded in the Ultimate universe. But you're right that it's a point of controversy, albeit ill-placed controversy. I can't say that Raimi did it any better.

I have often wondered what happens if Marvel gets back The rights to Spider - Man and X- Men.
Both franchises are not going to seem original by the time Marvel gets them back.
They might do better with the FF.
They are not so well known as the others.
We shall see.

For me,
FC is my third favorite X film.
X1 is first .
X2 is second.
And of course X3 is in fourth place.
Just my opinion.

Okay, How about this ?
Of all the Marvel Characters that havent had their own movies,
What Characters do you want to see most get their own films and what storylines would you use to start them out?

Black Panther, Luke Cage (or Heroes for Hire), Ms Marvel, and Dr. Strange. Also, Sentry... eventhough he's a newer character and only lasted for a few years, I think a movie about a guy as powerful as Superman who is basically schizophrenic could be really compelling. It would definitely be a very different kind of superhero movie.
