What are everyone's thoughts on a movie or series of movies based on the events in the Civil War story arc? It would probably have to wait until after they're done with their Avengers run, but they'd already have actors and actresses in place to play the characters and they wouldn't have to waste time with back story or anything like that. (Which was intended for that to be the case with the Avengers movies, but it can carry over to another set)

Thoughts? :)

they could do the civil war stuff in the avengers as the plot for a third movie or somthing.

I think there are much better stories to tell than this disappointing Marvel non-event...count me out!

I hope the plot of The Avengers 2 (or 3 if they plan to make more than 3 Avengers films) is loosely based on Civil War. Without FF or Spider-Man it can't be perfect (the X-Men played such a minor role, their absence is mute), however much like Kick-Ass and Wanted, Mark Millar had a great idea that was somewhat clumsily executed. So, a film adaptation that cherry picks moments and ideas, but fleshes them out in a Whedon-esque way is sure to make an Avengers film that is even better. At least, I think so.

I think Civil War for a 3rd film would work very well. I think doing it in Avengers 2 would be rushing it a bit.

The reason Civil War worked in the comics, or at least the idea, was because the characters were friends and allies that differed on a major issue that caused one side to hunt the other like criminals. I don't know if you'll get the same affect in three movies.

I agree. We definitely don't want them to rush it, or it'll feel out of place. But I think if we get two full length Avenger movies first, plus all the other interactions from everyone in the individual hero movies, a Civil War movie could work as a third one. Maybe even a fourth, if they've got a good story going with the Avengers. :D

Absolutely not. Civil War was the most mediocre event story I'd ever read (At least until Final Crisis eclipsed it). Any story that requires every single character to act like an idiot and contrary to their nature in order for the story to progress is a bad story, period. And Civil War was the absolute worst. Civil War onscreen would be the absolute worst thing Marvel Studios could do, as it nearly made a lifelong Marvel fan like me absolutely loathe Marvel for the longest time. Nevermind that we're only going to get a handful of Avengers movies, so there's really no time to set them up only to tear them apart again. There won't be any impact because the audience will be saying "They've known each other for a couple months and already they're fighting each other?"

Who knows how many Avengers movies we're going to be getting, but whatever we do get, I'd prefer they be spent telling GOOD stories. And that awful drek Marvel ruined their universe over for nearly a decade is not a good story by any stretch of the imagination.

Why did you find it disappointing?

I thought the entire thing seemed very forced and unnatural, major characters acting out of character, etc. - all to support the writers own biased political points of view.

Make a cartoon out of it if you like, but keep it out of the movie-verse.

I was not impressed and not interested at the time, and would rather it not be revisited now - again, I think they have better stories to tell.

Pretty much EVERYTHING Captain Marvel said above!

Wouldn't it be hard to do Civil War if FOX has Nitro??

Civil War is not the sort of movie that Hollywood nor mainstream audiences want to tackle.

The Avengers franchise is just starting. Even as the centerpiece to Avengers 3 would be way too soon. Who wants to break up the band this early in their career?

I'd rather just see the elements of the inner-team conflicts germinate --- show Cap and Tony clashing over ideology from the get-go --- and maybe establish the 50 States Initiative as the official SHIELD/government approach to superheroes. No need to start divvying up the (non-)team into New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Secret Avengers, Power Ranger Avengers, Justice League Avengers, etc. etc. etc.

Exactly and good ideas.

Well said. I agree 110%. Characters were written out of character all over the place, just to fit the story. Which is terrible writing no matter how you cut it.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance II is enough
They'll need plenty of movies to make way to Civil War

All of you who keep saying that the characters are written out of character... Are you sure? I mean... Put yourself into that perspective. In that kind of a situation, where all of the people you thought were your friends and allies are now turning against your beliefs, wouldn't you act a little differently? I'm just saying that it might not be that they're written wrong, just different from normal since they're in a strange situation that they wouldn't normally be in.

No.
Cap (and the rest of the Avengers) had Tony Stark's back every single frickin' time. For decades. They saved his ass. For decades. They fought his wars with him, and backed him up. For decades.

Nick Fury, SHIELD, and the US government...? They betrayed Stark time and again. Went to war with him, time and again. *Never* had his back. Betrayed him, time and again.

And yet, when Fury and the guvmint came a-knockin', Tony threw his allegiance in with THEM instead of his brothers-in-arms....? Hell, no. That's betrayal of the worst sort.

Not the mention the character assassination of the New Warriors. Sure they're young and brash... but not stupid and arrogant enough to take on someone like Nitro outside a school. They were just used as a plot device to kick off the event, with zero respect shown to previous characterisations.

Then you have the likes of Reed being an *****e to his wife and Ben. You have Stark manipulating Peter Parker into revealing his identity. The creation of Clor by his own friends.

I could go on and on, but I think my point is pretty clear already.
