Does a "War Machine" movie even make sense?

Honestly War Machine would have a lot more appeal to the black audience. A major budget movie where the superhero is a black guy? Also what would they have to change? A lot of Iron Mans bad guys won't make it into a film so why now send them War Machines way?

I was thinking that a War Machine movie could be very dramatic- Rhodey is sent with a platoon, but they get slaughtered. The whole movie could base itself around survivor's guilt and his conflict between serving the government, or supporting his friend's ideals.

Then I realized that a War Machine movie could never work because it would be a dark toned movie as compared to a pretty light-toned universe overall. Tony Stark would come home smiling, while Rhodey's out in Iraq fighting for his life. Wouldn't work.

NO. WHEY. There is honestly no point. In my humble opinion, he isn't a significant enough character to warrant his own film.

Hi, people,
Just to express my opinion on this

Deathlok - a) African-American (at least one version, Luther Manning, I think), b) he IS a weapon for the military c) not connected with previous established characters which makes him perfect for adaptation (no continuity baggage), c) heavily armored cyborg/zombie/assassin with lot of guns (think of the possibilities!!!)!

Black Panther - a) African-American, b) awesome warrior/king/military strategist/leader, c) action-adventure (awesome lost super advanced city in the jungle setting, haven't seen that in Marvel movie so far), d)again no continuity baggage

Power Man/Iron Fist - Heroes for Hire - a) Team/team up movie, b) characters are pretty awesome if done properly, c) Power Man is African-American, d)again no continuity baggage

Why make War Machine then? His main story was pretty much over, and he would not work without Iron Man!

Deathlok would, in my opinion, be much better movie than War Machine! Easy to tie into existing continuity (military secret experiment Universal Soldier style, ultimate assassin commissioned by the government, made by AIM, grafted Stark tech in the super-soldier, he can be the symbol of the Stark tech becoming perverted and twisted.... possibilities are endless!). Now, I know that the Deatlok is from alternate future thingy, but the movies can do away with that and make him the part of the Marvel movieverse!

Sorry for bad English!

Maybe Marvel are making a War Machine film to posiibly replace the Iron Man franchise? RDJ's contract is over after Iron Man 3, and it would proably be expensive to get him back. Could Marvel be creating this so we would still have an 'Iron Man' of sorts on the screen if RDJ doesn't come back?

You know, I was pretty convinced that this movie was never going to make it past the script stage (at best), but after hearing that Shane Black won't be using any other Marvel heroes in IM3, I think it's more likely now that there will be some kind of War Machine spin-off.

Or maybe, as Jackson said a couple years ago, War Machine will factor into the supposed SHIELD movie.

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are. I saw Don Cheadle was quoted saying writers are putting together a story/script. Yet, when I think about it, what's the point? War Machine and Iron Man are essentially the same thing, a guy manning a technologically advanced suit. I know in comics there's a lot of that with superheros sharing the same set of powers ..... She Hulk, Beta Ray Billy, etc. etc ..... but I just don't see how the general audience is going to take to it as a stand alone film because they already have their established suit guy in Iron Man.
I agree with you that you and I have a disinterest in seeing this movie made, and that War Machine may not be the most obvious choice for a solo film. It does make sense though. It's a chance for them to expand the Universe, make more movies and make more money. From a business standpoint it makes pretty good sense. The studio has already introduced the character(s), and have the actor in place, and it's attached to a pretty successful Iron Man and Avengers brand. Also, as far as comic books go, it's not really a novel concept now is it? Comics traditionally throw as many characters at the wall as possible and see what sticks. There are definitely stories with War Machine that could potentially be adapted into fun movies. So there's no real reason NOT to do it other than "I think it won't make money", and that can't really be proven right or wrong until after the fact. I say go for it.

make it like the Marvel-Max series, give it a dose of the recent Greg Pak series.. Rhodey decides to aggressively go after international terrorists, crime cartels, runs into conflict with US military brass..

Yeah but I would want the suit to look more aggressive with a few od green details and a bladed weapon

Really dont see the point in a WM movie, I mean, does the guy even have a rogue, let alone a rogue gallery? I just think it would be pointless and very much doubt it would make money.

They should hire one of those guys. One of them writer types. I keep hearing the word "pointless" but what makes one movie more important than another? It's entertainment, they all hold the same purpose and the same significance.

Heh. Exactly.

Honestly I don't see the appeal of War Machine as a solo-character for his own movie or really being a solo-character period.. The other thing is, like War Machine/Rhodey wasn't like this blow-away show stealing character in Iron Man 2. People didn't leave thinking, MAKE THAT WAR MACHINE MOVIE ALREADY! Not like you can just go out and make another War Machine movie like making another Pirates/Jack Sparrow movie.

It's the same argument with a Venom solo film, despite Spider-Man 3 horribly wasting the character just the simple notion of a Venom movie on it's own was dumb to begin with.

Venom is simply a useless character who doesn't work unless you have Spider-Man present thank god they never did the spin-off movie.

T-Ray - the Black Panther in NOT African-American, he's African!

War machine is more about military right so his enemy is the enemy of America

Sure it would be cool, but is it nescessary? There's already a franchise with a battle-armor wearing superhero.

What could another possibly bring to the table?
Shows why would a character suddenly go missing from the third Iron Man movie?

No it doesn't make sense. He can't even support his own comic book, let alone film.

If they want to make a movie about a black character it should be Black Panther.

 Why would he have to be missing from Iron Man 3 to get his own movie?

No it doesn't make sense. He can't even support his own comic book, let alone film.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Blade can't support a comic but has 3 movies.

If they want to make a movie about a black character it should be Black Panther.

I'd like to see a BP movie eventually as well. But more than one black character can have a movie.

What War Machine can offer is that it can be a more violent Iron Man. Plus you can have more action than the Iron Man movies because most things are already established. That's not saying that it has to be mindless action because you can have a lot of action and still have an interesting story.

It can be a really fun spin-off with a decent character that gives you another side of the Marvel U. I certainly hope that we at least get two movies made not featuring the main characters like Thor, Cap, Iron Man, and Hulk. They can do mid-level budget movies about War Machine, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, Luke Cage and Iron Fist, etc. Every movie doesn't need to be big budget and all about the main characters. Marvel is a studio after all. They have to have something else besides their main heroes on screen because relying on three or four heroes to sell everything gets stale after a while.

Maybe the war machine movie can be a lead into the time when rhodes took over for tony as ironman
