Marvel Considering Pitt for Thor?

oh Lordy Lord. This is what happens when Marvel listens to stupid fans and their casting choices.

Oh please just stop man... you are making yourself look foolish... the bottom line is the public doesn't need a picture perfect Thor like fanboys do... they need an actor that they can recognize who they know can deliver... and Pitt is still one of the finest actors today. The guy will be 46 by the time they start filming so its not like he'll lose the body overnight. He can work it back up... prosthetics can probably do the trick anyway. The logical thing to say is "its wishful thinking"... but anyone saying this is a terrible casting choice because its Brad Pitt is foolish. The only thing I'd be worried about is the baggage... but Avengers will have the script in place and ready to shoot by then and Pitt will have probably agreed to do both films back to back from day one.

A little more beef on his arms.....but I just watched those two clips! I think he could pull off Thor nicely. I imagined a Hammer in his hand instead of a sword.

Better Thor than Captain America.

Man those pics of Pitt as Achilles. The audience will really buy Pitt as Thor. He looks like he came out from Asgard! And Downey won't eat him up if they join forces for Avengers.
So here's what I want for the Avengers:
Nick Fury: Samuel L. Jackson
Captain America: Matt Damon
Iron Man: Robert Downey Jr.
Thor: Brad Pitt
The Hulk: Edward Norton

Still don't get your hope up yet. Pitt hasn't even been asked yet.

Whoever films Cap has to do it and Avengers back to back as has been stated and I doubt Matt Damon will do it. I can see Pitt being Thor and pulling it off, not a bad choice. Like CaptainStacy said, I do(hope)Antman has been shelved, at least until after the Avengers. I still Ackles is the best choice for Cap. This way you won't have to spend a huge amount of money on him.
Why do some of you guys say it's going to be hard to get all these guys on film? Ocean's 12, Smoking Aces, heck even Mr. and Mrs. Smith had 3 A-listers. Downey, Jackson, and Norton seemed more pumped than the fans to do a crossover film so I don't see why it can't be done.

the problem with ackles is his height, not to mention he doesn't have a commanding presents on film esp when you have people like edward norton, robert downey jr, and brad pitt in a room.... Cap should be and look like he's in his 30's

Oddly enough I actually had a mental image of Matt Damon as Cap and it didn't seem that horrible surprisingly.

After watching those Troy clips, I think Pitt can definitely pull it off. He'd make a great Thor, but only if he were signed on to do the Avengers as well. It's gonna be very interesting to see how they run with the Avengers...it could come across as absolutely friggen ridiculous if they don't get it done right.

Probably won't get either... I could live with guys like M.M and Clive Owen respectively for those roles. Or at least actors on a similar level. That would still make for a big time cast.

I just cannot see the appeal for Brad Pitt. Clearly the guy is a talented actor in his own right but please. I really cannot see him as Thor let alone Captain America.

And basing his performance via Achilles. I thought he was a joke in that film.

haha I can imagine this scene

Thor: I want you to do me a favor.
Hulk: Yeah, sure...
Thor: I want you to hit me as hard as you can.
Hulk: What?... in the face?
Thor: Surprise me.
Hulk: This is so f-ing stupid.

 Yeah................was this suppose to be funny or what?

Dang it! :cmad: I knew that was from something I just couldn't remember.

Ten years ago, this would've been a great idea, but Pitt is getting too old, and besides people won't see Thor but Pitt in the role. I think Marvel is better served to look for another, younger actor.

HAHAHAHA Thor can expect a puny norton looking banner
closes his eyes for like 5 seconds, then opens it to see hulk's huge fist on its way to his Asgardian face.
YES.
:bh:

Let's hope not.

He is too old and too small.

Thor definitely works as an older character, while Captain America does not.

The only real issue that I see, which you also bring up, is his height. You could easily use forced perspective or other movie tricks to make Pitt look bigger, but is it worth the hassle and effort to make Pitt look bigger in every single shot just to have him in the movie? Well, actually... yes I would say. Besides the name power and instant credibility he brings to the role... the odds of finding someone the size of Thor who can actually act is very difficult. An actor who fits the role and has the draw of Pitt? No chance.

If he does indeed get cast as Thor, imagine the Avengers... Robert Downey Jr., Edward Norton, Brad Pitt + whoever plays Cap and Ant-Man (and I like the Alan Tudyk idea for Hank Pym). That's a better cast than anyone could have imagined.

Well, it's all conjecture anyhow since Marvel hasn't even discussed this with Pitt so far, so it's basically as credible as a fan-boy's wet dream right now.

Though, look what "Bale-dammit!!" did for Batman...

I'd be suprised if they get a name like this. Is it worth it? I don't know the answer to that... but if you want people to watch... are they really going to interested in an English actor they have never seen before? You'll have to pay him close to 10-15 million... and maybe slightly less for Avengers. If they can get him it would be remarkable... Pitt... Downey... Norton... who's next? Matt Damon? I'm not going to get too excited though. But having four names that just stick out and smack audiences in the face like those names would really be something.

I can see Damon as Caps.

If this is true...I will cry fanboy tears

:)

This is just early BASELESS speculation. This has just been the first name tossed out there for the role. My only issue is what will the script be like. If they want to use Vaughn's younger Thor, I'm against Pitt. But if they want an older Thor, I think Pitt would do well.

I just wonder why everyone's so obsessed with Thor being a huge guy. You can't find alot of people with Thor's physique in real-life, let alone a good actor. If a 6'1" Wolverine worked great on film, why not a smaller Thor? As long as whatever actor they use can look about 6'2" or 6'3" on film, it'll be fine. I'm only 5'9", but with the right shoes and insoles I can stand 6'0" tall.

Is Marvel really banking franchise with Thor? If you go with Pitt you will be lucky to get even the second movie (Avengers that is)... he definitely won't be back for additional sequels. At the same time the solo movie will have a hard time making money with an unknown unless its just ridiculously good. I personally don't think Captain America or Thor are solo franchise potential characters... one solo film should suffice. Captain America could potentially be a franchise though it's the tough overseas sell that makes me skeptical. I don't know exactly where Marvel will be looking for the "franchise" type character. I mean right now its IM and possibly Hulk but I'd be surpised if they continue beyond Avengers with solo movies for those two characters. Basically what I am saying is that I don't think any of the big four characters are franchise type characters (for the 3 SOLO picture deal) with the exception of Iron Man. And I say that because Marvel appears to be casting for right now by going with older veteran actors that most likely are not long term solutions. I think if you are Marvel your franchise is Avengers with changing lineups for each film. I think they'll make any additional spinoff movies as stand alone films with maybe a sequel or two (solo sequels I am talking about) here and there if they have a hit on their hands. Point is... I think they should go for a big name for Thor because I don't see franchise potential I just don't. Not by himself at least.
