Marvel June 2010 Solicitations

if Bendis jobs Thor to Wonder Man I'm not going to read the Avengers until he gets off of them. Ill just stick with Thor and Hulk books.

Well, Dan Ketch did technically decide once upon a time to literally take over Hell.
You just had to bring up that memory.

It's entirely possible he will, but I'm not going to have that extreme a reaction. Thor exists to get beat on. You can't escape it by not reading certain comics; it's the way the character works now.

maybe its an exaggeration..but i really am sick of Thors treatment...after JMS' brilliant run(which made his current treatment worse!)

You just had to bring up that memory.

To make my point, sure.

More thoughts:

- While I am sure it is fine idea to try to spotlight talent from Europe, now is NOT the time to be releasing a thing called X-CAMPUS that is basically, "what if Europeans did the X-Men, and followed every American teenage TV show cliche", for a whopping five dollars a pop. I assure you every store that orders a copy of this will not sell even half what they order. Why not just allow the talent to write some fill in issues of X-Men proper to spotlight them and make it seem important? Is it because the X-Men are so convoluted, you need a specialist to navigate it like one hires for tax preparation? Come to think of it, maybe a business could be made of someone, for a fee, filling in an incoming writer of an entire line's stories from the past decade or so and to help with ideas.

- Deadpool will have 5 titles this month, not counting guest appearances.

- Black Cat is getting a spin off series. The last time this happened, it was the 1990's. She isn't the only one, Harry Osborn is next. Look, ASM shipping thrice a month hasn't been the sale disaster some make it out to be, but it hardly is the saving grace of the industry. Now, atop that, Marvel is publishing WEB OF SPIDER-MAN, 2 Spider-Man mini's, and is throwing spin off's atop it? Spider-Man cannot support this now sales wise, and hasn't for years. JIM HANLEY'S UNIVERSE, a major shop in Manhattan, literally has an entire wall of Spider-Man comics from 1, 2, 3, 9 years ago lined up in rows they couldn't move if they wanted to offer fire wood. 2010 is the year Marvel decided to flood the market with $4 books no one wants in the midst of the worst recession in a generation; if 2011 comes along and someone at Marvel bleats about how they couldn't predict things becoming dire for the direct market, laugh at them. Just...laugh.

- The new AVENGERS launches I will be paying attention to are AVENGERS ACADEMY and SECRET AVENGERS. It does suck that SECRET AVENGERS has no cover. C'mon, not even going to let us try to guess who is in that (besides Steve Rogers)? The plot seems interesting...the evil Roxxon company exploiting Mars? Hmm.

- AVENGERS: PRIME - proving that the aftermath of SIEGE will be longer than SIEGE itself. Why not just cover everything at once and move on?

- AGE OF HEROES looks like a good way for McKeever, Slott, Reed and Cornell to get a last chance at covering some characters they created before they go into limbo, or other team books. I'll likely get it.

- Will Black Widow prove as popular in IRON MAN 2 as Marvel thinks Deadpool was from WOLVERINE? Time will tell.

- It either is just in time, or years too late, for a Luke Cage mini especially since he is already in two team books.

- I haven't read it, but "Franken-Castle" looks like it is either the most awesome thing on the planet, or the stupidest thing since A-Bomb in HULK. Joe Q may forget it was on his watch that Frank Castle was an angelic demon slayer, but I don't.

- Iron Man has 6 books this month.

- Jeff Parker's THUNDERBOLTS roster will either be awesome or demented. I am not sure on Juggernaut being a hero; never have been. He's fine as a one note formidable villain, but make him a hero and suddenly he is very bland. Hmm...so rare to have a Class 85+ ton tanker as a hero. We have so few of those. Aside for Thor. Or Wonder Man. Or Thing. Or Sentry. Or Beta Ray Bill. Or Colossus. Or Blue Marvel. Or Strong Guy. Or... you get my point. Still, hopefully Parker can pull it off.

- I still wonder if YOUNG ALLIES will get lost in the shuffle.

- X-MEN FOREVER 2; it had to be relaunched because, despite Marvel's projections, it actually didn't fail as badly as expected, and so thus was worth relaunching. I still say pay Claremont royalty checks and let him retire in dignity.

- Wolverine only has 3 titles, not including team appearances. Spider-Man and Iron Man are spamming more than he is at this rate.

- Fraction takes over on THOR, and this will become his 3rd big franchise he is writing, next to INVINCIBLE IRON MAN and UNCANNY X-MEN. Hopefully he follow up after Gillen's run well. And yes, I mean it exactly as I typed it.

Just like that, my 17,000th post. :awesome:

A Tomb of Dracula collection? In color? For less than $100?!

I must make it mine.

So, no Nova or GOTG for a second month in a row? At least we got The Thanos Imperative...

Yeah, that struck me as incredibly odd, as well.

This would have been very much welcomed shortly after the first Omnibus collection came out. But that was worth the money anyway. Besides, I got it for 50 bucks on Amazon.

I'm kinda peeved that Marvel's attempting a double-dip on the colorized version of the Dracula adaptation that Roy Thomas and Dick Giordano did. Giordano's pencils progressively get worse and I doubt color will help it. I'll browse through it in the shop though.

I plan on getting the omnibuses one day after reading the first 2 Essentials. But this might change that if it saves me some much needed money.

I like how alternate versions of Wonder Man have been more popular than the current version. First his old self shows up in GotG a few months back and now we get to see another future version in an Avengers comic.

So I've been going back and forth on these Avenger titles and which to get, if any... or if all. It's not that I dislike the Avengers, I actually enjoy them, but I can't afford all the comics I buy and this would be a good jumping off point, so I've been considering it heavily. One of the main things I've wondered about was ongoing price, so I've waited to see an issue 2 price, and it looks like Avengers, New Avengers, and Secret Avengers are $4 each, and I'm guessing Academy may be as well, though I'm not sure on that one yet. I expected Avengers and New Avengers to be, but I always said that if Secret ends up being $3 then I'll be more likely to drop the other two and pick up Secret... but now with all of them $4 I may just drop them all. Secret's price is like them jumping Mighty to $4, which I wouldn't have bought. And with dropping 3 $4 comics, it's the equivalent of dropping 4 comics... which is good for my saving money monthly (which is the point). If Academy also ends up being $4, then I'll just drop the whole lot of them.

I am pleased, however, to find that Thunderbolts is remaining $3, and since Luke and Juggernaut has me curious, and I've enjoyed Parker's run thus far, I will likely continue with that book.

"Jumping off point" is actually very common these days. With high prices and sheer volume and endless revamps/relaunches/reshuffles, it seems true that every issue is someone's last, rather than their first, of something. Marvel does run the real risk of fans not biting on some of these new launches. Sadly, hopefully the quality ones won't bite the dust.

I still think now is not the time for $3.99 launches and comics. Maybe it was okay in 2009, the heart of the Great Recession, but surely it cannot remain that way forever. That price tag should be rarer than it has become.

It is the most awesome thing on the planet, aside from them changing the name of the book from Punisher to Franken-Castle. I just think from a marketing standpoint it could easily backfire since people are skeptical about the book's new direction to begin with. But, I can see Marvel's point of fully throwing support behind the new status quo.

It's experimental, bold and working well so far. When there's two monthly Punisher books, there's no reason for him to fight mobsters and low level super-villains in both. Plus Remender is incorporating The League of Monsters as supporting characters, if that doesn't scream cool, then I don't know what does. I highly recommend picking up the trade of the first arc and trying it out.

Well, it's not hard to see why: his current version is a government stooge who retired when Osborn took power rather than realize he was wrong and join up with the real heroes.

Come on dude Franken Castle, come on now.

I thought Franken-Castle was a pretty dumb idea, but I've really enjoyed it so far.
