we have seen many comics to tv adaptations. i think the biggest one is obviously walking dead where amc is giving them the freedom to be a bit more graphic. and the ratings followed based on great storytelling and drama.

but most of the other shows were basically teen focused - like smallville, arrow and now flash.

but if you haven't see the trailers yet...check out the ones for daredevil that's coming to netflix april 10th.

imho, this is going to be a game changer. this show is going to represent a new way of bringing comics to life. it's a mini-series and there is more creative freedom and more importantly...TIME to tell a cohesive story with true character development. we can get the true insights for each character in this format and now that's it's not going to be on tv or cable...they can even go to more risky places.

getting an actor like vincent d'onofrio to commit to something like this is huge and shows just how much juice they have. i can see this leading to many more quality actors jumping in trying to get into something like this. and not just actors but writers and directors.

this is not a 2-2.5 hour movie where alot has to be crammed in. we can now get a true emotional investment for many characters at the same time.

Netflix has already changed the game on their own, Marvel is just hopping onto a new distribution service. ??

Agreed. This is just another branch of the de-massification of television. Cable channels came first. Now it's branched out to areas like Netflix. Prime time doesn't mean much these days.

He's talking about changing the Comic Book T.V. game. No where else can you get over 13hrs of new Marvel footage in an instant and possibly be as good as HBO's Spawn was.

I almost feel like Marvel was close to changing the game with Agent Carter. The style and feel of that show was so great, it almost felt like Mad Men with action scenes. But yeah, they may take it to a whole other level with Daredevil. It looks fantastic.

to be fair I don't consider Arrow or Flash teen focused. Yes, the demographic loves it but they are shows that really attract all ages. Which I like.

the game has been changed. i can see top line actors wanting to be a part of this netflix partnership.

House of Card's season three flopped. Marco Polo cost 100mil and flopped. Netflix needed Marvel too. People were starting to criticize them

Daredevil is gonna be as watched by teens as Arrow. And this is certainly not the first darker CB tv show. Let´s not forget about Gotham.

Can't we please forget about Gotham?

Except all that made Mad Men so good.

Let's not forget that they have plenty of bad shows, even when they started.

I'm so curious to learn how Netflix measures succes with their programming or rather where they get the capital to produce so many shows from.

Yes, Neflix was going to go under had Marvel not brought over Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage. etc. Oh come on.

Netflix has been going strong for a while now and will continue to do so long after Marvel leaves the platform at some point. If anything, Marvel is the one benefitting from the Netflix deal much like any other production company does when they utilize the platform.

I love Marvel, but they aren't doing anything earth shattering here people.

Did Marco Polo really flop? Heard they were doing another season.

We don't know Netflix keeps their stats secret on how many people watch their programs, but yes Netflix has already announced a season 2 for Marco Polo, so it couldn't have flopped as bad as people thought...

Series don't really flop on Netflix. The point of them is that Netflix has a catalogue of series that you can't watch anywhere else. So you sign up to Netflix. It doesn't matter if you watch them or not as long as you pay your monthly subscription. It is all about attracting new customers and keeping existing ones.

Obviously the show couldn't flop that much if they are spending the money to make more episodes. Unless it's some sort of Producers-esque scam ;) .

But I mean...think about it this way. Netflix's doesn't have TV ratings or ad revenue. It's a delivery and subscription streaming service.

That's the thing people don't understand about Netflix, they will continue to produce content as ultimately content is king. It is far cheaper to produce their own programs than it is to license TV shows produced by others, Netflix is looking far into the future which is why it is ramping up its TV show production...I have a feeling we will see a ton of new original Marvel shows on Netflix over the next decade or so.

I like the way Marvel is doing the Netflix miniseries because we get more about the characters and stories than we would in a movie and it goes faster than a 26 episode season.
Plus with Netflix they can go in deeper with the more darker characters, like they did with Daredevil.

I hope you are right. I got Netflix just for the Defenders! I can't be alone in this.

Except make the best Superhero tv show exclusive to Netflix. Why not just sprinkle Ants on a kids birthday cake while you're at it.

There's plenty to see for those who wish to look. So if anything they're saving the "Earth shattering" part till Defenders releases.
