Born Again Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again General Discussion Thread

Thomas Jane is one of the great tragedies of the early CBM boom. From what I gathered from interviews and "making of" docs is he seemed like the only person in the room who took the material seriously and wasn't just out to make a quick buck. He is what makes that 2004 movie watchable and I will always tip my hat to him.

My hope is that the course correction will make this closer to the Netflix style, but I also hope Born Again embraces more comic book aspects and villains that the Netflix shows often weren't willing to do.

Also, the Netflix series was TV-MA. Born Again should be the same.

If Disney seriously wants Disney+ to compete with Prime Video and Netflix, you can't limit yourself to kids and family content only. You need to have R-Rated and TV-MA content. And considering they've allowed that content already on the platform, nothing should be stopping them.
I don't have Disney +, but didn't they merge FX and Hulu with it? TV-MA shouldn't be an issue.

Not exactly. FX and FXX still exist. They have Hulu stuff on Disney+ now. No, it shouldn't be an issue, but just for example, you can't watch Family Guy on Disney+ in the US. Disney was slow to put TV-MA content on Disney+ and for the first several years, their policy was family or up to PG-13 content only. That changed when they put the Marvel Netflix shows on Disney+ under Bob Chapek's regime.

OK, thanks. I'd forgotten the Netflix show moved over. That is the only green light they needed to match it.

Well, Marvel has already done one TV-MA show in Echo. It shouldn't be an issue, but like just for example, the Netflix shows wouldn't allow for any actual nudity or F-bombs despite being TV-MA. So they're still slow to adapt certain things in today's era of streaming TV.

Wait he was the Swordsman in Hawkeye right? That show is just a blur, yet I remember somewhat liking this guy.
Now I need a recap of their take on his character.

He was great in Hawkeye
Don't know how his lighter goofier tone will mesh with Daredevil, but I'm glad to see they're bringin him back

Would also love to see Kate show up but that's probably a big ask

That's not a very high bar, all things considered. Even for all the talk of Echo having that more mature take, it didn't reach the level of brutality that we got from the Netflix shows. After all, Feige said that Moon Knight would be brutal, and it really wasn't, outside of maybe seeing Ethan Hawke put glass in his sandals.

They really don't need to hype up Daredevil- it's Daredevil. We know what we're getting into, and hopefully leaning more towards Netflix's tone and less of Disney+.

.
I'm weary of their interpretation of that, It wasn't so much just showcasing meaningless brutality, which is what now I'm afraid they interpret is what made Netflix DDs fights and choreography resonate.
It's that Netflix had some of the best well grounded, exigent (word?), fight choreography, that gave it a sense of real world weight and ramifications.

Then the first thing Disney did with this character in SHulk was turn DD into an outrageous CG generated fighting cartoon caricature.

And Kingpin Into self parody in Hawkeye.

If they are just combining the outrageous cartoonyCG fights, but now added meaninglessly brutal, they've (for me) completely missed the point.

That said, going by the the D23 tease, it did look like they were back to form.

I don't expect the same level of real world violence when Daredevil is a guest star in other Marvel heroes shows or movies that have a different tone and different audience they are catering to.

Yet they had to apparently fire the whole crew (writers, directors), and switch directions, form whatever they were producing. Was it cause it was tainted by the different (Ally McBeal + CG camp?) show "different tone and different audience they are catering to."?
Marvel quietly let go of head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and also released the directors for the remainder of the season as part of a significant creative reboot of the series. The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
D'Onofrio said the main creatives of the series got together soon after Scardapane joined the project and decided that Born Again should harken back to the tone of the Netflix series.
Hopefully (and from the looks of it they did course correct), they are back to catering to the Netflix series audience, and what made the show and character work.

They have my favorite filmmakers working today finally working on a marvel property I actually care about and I couldn't be happier.

I disagree. I liked seeing what Daredevil could do against She-Hulk. He moved more like he does in the comics. Matt Murdock has abilities and skills beyond a normal human. His movement and acrobatics should reflect that.
