The Defenders Marvel Working With Netflix and ABC on Additional Series.

They've been taking, what? Nine months or so to film? I think it's certainly plausible for a November of December release. Although I have no expectations - it'll be done when it's done.

Probably not. Seeing as though it looks like they are setting up 2 shows a year. It'd more likely be this.

2015: Daredevil & Jessica Jones
2016: Daredevil season 2 & Luke Cage
2017: Iron Fist &The Defenders
And possibly these, though I think they are more fan rumor.
2018: Moon Knight & The Punisher
2019: Deathlok & Spider-Woman

Will punisher and hellcat be part of the defenders?

Not anymore. There's no one attached, at least that we know of.

Wait, if it takes 9 months to make, why couldn't it be released December next year even absent someone attached yet?

I think the window for getting IF out in 2016 is rapidly diminishing, if not already closed.

Using Coker/Luke Cage for an example, since he had the least amount of prep time; Coker was announced right at the end of March and started filming in August (IIRC), so about 4-5 months. And filming has taken about 6 months on both DD & JJ, + 3-4 months of post-production.

Going by the minimum amount of time there, if they announced a showrunner early next month maybe they could just about squeeze out IF for December 2016.

For all we know they may have found a showrunner now, and just haven't announced it yet

When did jj start filming?

Seems very unlikely it makes 2016. Will probably only be Daredevil S2 and Luke Cage.

Possibly season 2 of JJ if it does well.

I'd rather wait to see a great Iron Fist show rather than watch it get rushed just so Marvel can meet their deadline of a new show every six months.

February, if I recall correctly.

So if we want iron fist out in 2016 we are looking to start fiming around the same time.

Although luke cage hasn't started filming yet has it? They might just have dd season 2 and lc next year and do iron fist the next year with defenders?

I really have no idea as we might have second series of jj etc...

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. With DDs2 following pretty much the same production schedule, JJs2 could potentially start in February 2016 with a Nov/Dec 2016 release if they aren't ready with IF.

Pretty much. Feb/March would have to be the start date to get it out by December 2016. But as Vile & myself are getting at, to give the show adequate development time a showrunner needs to be announced in the next few weeks or that window is gone (if it isn'tgone already).

Although luke cage hasn't started filming yet has it?

It has. Started a few months back, August, I think.

That's looking probable at this point.

An advantage JJ has in getting a season 2 going is Rosenberg has been attached to a JJ series for about 5 years, so probably has plenty ideas already on where to take it.

Well I think Marvel will play up Punisher being a lone wolf, helping the team but not joining them. And we don't know if Walker will become Hellcat. All we know right now is she's a non-powered supporting character (and I think she's going to stay that way).

How do you know she doesn't have any powers?
They haven't shown us in the preview that Luke has powers, but we know he already does, based on the interviews.

She'll presumably get powers. Namely, I think Elektra is going to teach her some psi techniques from The Chaste.

And other characters outside the big four who have a better change of joining the team are Misty Knight, Elektra and Colleen Wing (for the first season) and if there's a Defenders Season 2 a few years after the first, we'll hopefully get Moon Knight (from his own series), White Tiger (who'll hopefully be in Season 2 of Luke Cage) and Echo (who will hopefully be in Season 3 or 4 of Daredevil). I can also see Spider-Man and Doctor Strange joining as they're both based in New York City but it'll be a lot more expensive to involve them + they'll be filming other things.

So... Marvel are now developing a Punisher show and Moon Knight is rumored to be getting a backdoor pilot.

Elektra is already cast so it shouldn't be hard to get her into her own series.

Wesley Snipes has allegedly met with Marvel for something Blade related. Here's hoping that these are the next four series!

Sounds like speculation from a rumor of an assumption.

Looks like Jeph Loeb just said that there's no Punisher show in development yet. Still feel like Moon Knight and Punisher should be the next places that Marvel focuses its TV division.

Moon Knight is the biggest name missing from the street level Marvel U. Right now the Defenders roster is Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Elektra, Hellcat, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing with Punisher as a wild card. Moon Knight completes that lineup. (Unless you count Spider-Man which will never happen since Sony co-owns the production rights and they want him on the big screen.) I'm surprised that he hasn't been announced yet.

And Punisher's stories are often self-contained. The lack of crossovers wouldn't impact Marvel's production schedule at all.

Yeah, but they might not have the resources or capabilities or desire to manage multiple shows other than the ones they announced AND still maintain top-notch quality.

Loeb's statement could be part of an ongoing negotiation. We know Netflix paid for 5 shows, which appears to have included multiple seasons if demand warranted. Punisher, Moon Knight and the like could be added to the Netflix package through an extension of the existing deal. Or they may be sold to another network or streaming platform if Netflix doesn't pony up enough cash.

Hopefully this happens. It feels awkward to introduce Punisher and Elektra into the MCU and not eventually give them leading roles. Plus Moon Knight is very much a part of the street level MCU and he feels like the missing piece here.

And a take on Blade closer to the comics would fit a TV show much better than another film partially since Dracula and Blade's supporting cast need more fleshing out and partially since it'll be nearly impossible to one-up the first two Blade films.

As for Thunderbolts, I don't think that they can work as well on film since there are too many of them and it's a redemption arc for everyone involved.

Plus Marvel have their existing film franchises and there's still more to do with Eternals, Ghost Rider and the Fantastic Four if Marvel ever get them back.

And that's just on Netflix. I'd like to see She-Hulk on ABC, Runaways and Avengers Academy on ABC Family and Power Pack on Disney Channel. At that point Marvel will have run out of IP.
