Marvel's: Blade

Luke cage is cancelled and Ali went to marvel and said he wanted blade. No harm no foul lol.

How is that cold? lmao

Out of everything announced yesterday this is by far the most exciting. Mahershala can read the phone book for 2 hours and it'd be captivating so there's no way this won't deliver IMO.

It's like driving a stake through the heart of Cottonmouth just to be sure he's dead. :o

I'm torn on this because I had my heart set on Michael Jai White or Snipes returning. Ali is obviously an awesome actor and is perfect persona for this role. I've got some questions.

Netflix officially a different universe? (I have not got a problem with one actor playing different roles in the same universe, just curious.)

Is it going to be R rated?

What does this mean for other Netflix actors and characters? (Can Charlie Cox play Nova? Krysten Ritter play Abigail Brand? )

I think it's clear that whether Netflix is canon or not is largely irrelevant now. Its cancelled and the chances that these shows get revived are slim. Plus cotton mouth was killed off on the first season. And to be fair Alfre Woodard was both In civil war and Luke cage. I'd say the Netflix actors have just as fair a shot at landing and mcu proper role as anyone else.

Because it proves how little Feige cares about the Netflix shows. lol

And to be fair Alfre Woodard was both In civil war and Luke cage.
Yeah but Woodard played a very minor character in Civil War, it's not the same thing. Ali is going from playing a prominent character in one of the shows to playing and even more prominent character in one of the movies.

The Netflix shows were presented as canon so until we hear otherwise that's still the case.

And I was just about to bring up Alfre Woodard as well but GG beat me to it.

And before anyone brings up Woodard... Woodard played a very minor character in Civil War, it's not the same thing. This guy went from playing a prominent character in one of the shows to playing and even more prominent character in one of the movies.

Don't be silly. Even if Feige loved the Netflix shows, he ain't going to turn down one of the best living actors who wants to play a fan-favorite character just because he played a different character a few years ago in another Marvel production. That's thinking like a fanboy, not a movie executive.

Well I suppose JAG cast Catherine Bell as a main character in season 2 after she played another character in season 1 who was fairly significant. They even kept referencing their physical similarity. So they were prepared to go with her as they wanted her for the series and didn't let the fact she had played someone else before stop them.

I think they did the same with Lucy Lawless as Xena even though she had played someone else in Hercules before.

His character died in the first half of the first season, which was 3 years ago this year. It will be at least 6 years after his character debuted in luke cage by time we see his blade on screen. And the Netflix universe is cancelled. No harm no foul.

Pumped for Blade to return to the big screen, I loved that original trilogy even the 3rd instalment Trinity, which is widely considered an abomination, I enjoyed.

Mahershala Ali has a hell of a job to outdo Wesley Snipes, who even at 50+ years old I literally wouldn't have even bat an eye if they'd brought him back because he was so perfect for the role, that being said I'm very happy with the casting & if anyone can outdo or even just match him, it's Ali.

Let's hope the writers and director around him construct something he can really sink his teeth into. Pun definitely intended.

Not to overshadow him but I hope we get to see Hannibal King or Dracula in some form. Maybe even Werewolf By Night down the line.

Yeah starting with vampires opens up a big world for everything else.

Exactly. You don't ask you don't get. Rumour has it he discussed it with Chadwick Bozeman during their Hollywood roundtable thing.

By far the most exciting Marvel news at SDCC for me. My only worry now now is they make it PG-13 but we will see.

would be cool if movie started out with ghost rider as a villain who eventually becomes an ally

So, anyone else wondering whether this is a movie or a Disney+ program, and specifically about why Marvel didn't actually bother to specify?

I hope they don't include Dracula at the start. The general public will think of him as just someone from other folklore and it could seem as if they're mixing and matching the MCU with Universal monsters or Hammer Horror villains. I think they need to build up to him and establish vampires first.

I didn’t even think about that until now. That said, I’d be shocked if it’s a Disney+ show and not a blockbuster.

This was the most exciting news. I know I'm not alone in wanting Ali for Blade. But goddamn he is perfect for this. I can't wait!

With this and Doctor Strange 2, I'm glad to see more horror in the MCU.

Perfect bit of casting. Big fan of Ali and Blade so this could be the perfect match, just glad we got something new and exciting to look forward to. Hopefully its R rated but I think Marvel know what they are doing now, lol.
