Marvel's: Blade

So, anyone else wondering whether this is a movie or a Disney+ program, and specifically about why Marvel didn't actually bother to specify?
It has to be a movie. I know they are trying to blur the lines between films and Disney+ but I still think major franchises need to start as a movie first.

I really want to see if it's possible for Ghost Rider to cross over with the films if the Blade reboot does well.
Highly unlikely since Ghost Rider is getting his own series and it won’t be on Disney+. It’s obvious now that unless it’s on that streaming service, all other series are tangentially connected and only one way.

Damn....Vampires coming to the MCU. That's huge news.

Yeah starting with vampires opens up a big world for everything else.
Makes me wonder Vampires have always been a thing in the MCU; they’d at least have been on SHIELD’s radar? Unlike the X-Men, I suppose there’s no need for their (lack of) appearance to be explained.

I think between this and Doctor Strange 2, the next phase looks to be diving more into the supernatural realm. It’s a shame we’re not likely going to see an MCU Ghost Rider (not anytime soon at least); he’d be my next pick for the realmy stuff.

One wonders if BLADE will open up a Marvel Knights corner of the MCU.

I'm pretty sure it's a movie.

Personally speaking if it turns out to be a TV show its unlikely I'll watch especally if it's part of a Disney subscription based program. I've no interest in any of the other offerings.

In honor of this announcement of the return of the Daywalker to the MCU. Let's have a little history lesson on the role he played in reviving the superhero film genre.

Blade most likely would have either been Phase 6 or 7 had it been someone else. The fact that Mahershala Ali wanted the role soon after he won his second Oscar sped up the process of Blade. I saw comments online that the first choice of many fans was (if it wasn't Wesley Snipes) Michael Jai White, but if it was White, we would not have Blade this soon. Besides, White is my choice for Moses Magnum.

Mahershali Ali became my pick for Blade after seeing Alita: Battle Angel. I'm so excited that he's the new Blade. It's a smart choice. He's going to bring something different to the tablet that Wesley Snipes really didn't. The performance will certainly be more nuanced. I love the original Blade Trilogy, but Snipes' Blade was pretty much a rage fueled badass just curb stomping his way through the vampire world. Ali will bring a much different vibe and approach, but he'll be undeniably badass at the same time. Color my pumped. I hope this opens the door to characters like Moon Knight, Daemon Hellstrom, Elsa Bloodstone and others in the occulty/horror side of the Marvel Universe.

I'm also curious if Marvel will have the balls to make Dracula the villain. Dracula is one of my favorite big bads in the comics. Let's see him on screen.

Easily the best and most exciting announcement from the panel outside of the Fantastic Four (which I knew was coming anyway). I hope the new take doesn't disappoint.

Who will be a good director this?

They could use Doctor Strange 2 to introduce Blade into the MCU. Just have him come from some other verse in the multiverse where vampires have taken over his Earth and now because of something that happens in DS2 some of them have made it to MCU Earth. Blade would then follow with the aim of preventing the vampire infection from spreading.

This would neatly explain why there haven't been any vampires around til now.

Eh, I don't think that's anything that really needs explaining. Vampires literally operate in the shadows. That's already a pretty neat explanation.

Vampires are a night time thing & the ones that may or may not walk in the sun keep it a secret that they are Vampires. Its a simple concept here with why there are no Vampires in the MCU no one knows about them. Don't gotta over complicate things here

Yeah I completely agree, there's no need to come up with a long winded explanation, Peter talked about it in FFH about how certain things were thought of as myths that ended up being true ala Thor, Vampires could fall under that exact same umbrella of myth.

I’d agree with the notion that unlike mutants, vampires (or their absence of them up until now) don’t really need explaining.

MCU Vampires are probably in minority and aren’t considered a global threat; not something the Avengers need to deal with, just as the Avengers are never sent off to the Middle East.

Not something The Avengers are even aware off -

I'd quite like that line to somehow make it into the next Blade when he's explaining the existence of vampires to someone.

Whilst that’s safe to assume, knowing all the knowledge acquired by SHIELD and Stark, you’d think they’d at least be aware of them.

In any case, I simply doubt they were considered enough of a threat for the Avengers to deal with. Blade is more an antihero than actual hero, he’s kinda street level in that sense, so he’d be happy dealing with the likes of Vampires whilst the Avengers deal with the bigger, more political and global threats.

Yeah, I think Ali can bring something beyond what we’ve seen so far to the character. I also hope this opens the door for the other characters you mention. Midnight Sons too hopefully down the road.

Agree with all of this!

What kind of Blade is Ali going to be? Will he be a comic version of Blade, or a Wesley Snipes version of Blade?

Ghost Rider on Disney+ is the Robbie Reyes Ghost Driver version though. They could still give us the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider who actually rides a motorcycle in Blade. I don't think Blade can be as unconnected and insular as the Snipes version was.

I'd like SHIELD to still be somewhat confused by it all, somewhat the way they seemed to be with Thor & his world initially in that it was more something under ongoing investigation rather than a known fact.

For me personally, I know Blade exists within the same universe, but he should be kept kinda separate to an extent from it all.. at least at first anyway. What he deals with I feel is somewhat unique in a similar sense to Dr. Strange only a completely different field obviously.

If he actually interacts with anyone, I'd prefer it to be the X-Men.

Kevin Feige has been pushing away from the Phase label for a little while Phase 4 seems to be a bit all over the place without any clear bookending films, so I wonder if that's why. The fact that the whole Phase only takes up two years will be interesting.

Phase 4 seems to be more of a transition Phase. It buys them time to figure out what to do with FF and X-Men and all the other sequels they have in development.

I imagine Ali will bring his own take to Blade. Only Wesley can pull off Wesleys Blade. If Ali tried coping that I hope he gets called out on it. Let Ali take this time & work thins out with Kevin on what type of Blade that would be good for the MCU. But the one thing they should NOT do is copy Wesley
