Mass Effect

Alternatively, the movie could be used to establish the basis of a 'canon' that can be used in future post-Shepard games (and there should be, given how well developed the universe is).

I wonder if there will a tie-in game.

"Mass Effect: The Movie: The Game" :D

Considering they can't even get Halo off the ground, I think this will wind up in development hell.

Halo will eventually be adapted to film. It's inevitable. It's far too big of an IP to not be exploited at some point.

The issue with the previous incarnation of the Halo movie is that there were just too many people wanting too much influence over it.

Mass Effect on the other hand is nowhere near as big as Halo and there probably won't be so many disparate entities pulling it in different directions.

well the big hitch with Halo was that Microsoft wanted total control (script approval, designs, everything) ....from what I read it was severe micromanagement

Mass Effect would be a very easy thing to bring to the big screen. You already have the core plot. It's not that difficult to create stories around that.

Honestly? I'd much rather get a Red vs Blue movie. :D

not that i know of, but i can bet it will be in 3d bahaha

It will be interesting to see how they approach the aliens in this movie. A lot of them will probably be CG/motion capture, but then you've got guys like the Volus who will probably be dwarfs in costumes, and a lot of them could probably be done convincingly with puppets.

The Krogans and Turians will probably be completely CGI/mo-cap. In the case of the Turians, I could easily see them using the stilt technique that they used in District 9 to simulate make the aliens' height and reverse-joint legs.

The Quarians would be interesting to see how they pull off since they have mostly human proportions, except for their lower legs since they have a steeper backwards arch. They'll probably have the actors wearing full costumes, except for the lower leg which will be "mo-cap tights" and then digitally replace them with CG. Maybe they'll have them wear some kind of elevated footwear to change the orientation of their legs, too.

Its always been my understanding that the deal breaker was that Microsoft refused to allow Master Chief's face to be shown and the studio got cold feet about dumping 200 million dollars into a big budget movie where they couldn't even show the main character's face.

Anyhow, Jeffery Donovan for Shepard!

He would be perfect. He would be able to pull the dramatic elements and also have the great comedic timing for some the lighter Shepard moments.

i didnt play the game but the suit designe looks fantastic. but for a live action movie it wouldnt work. i dont think you can move in this.

you could say now Iron Man. but you can not move fast or run in that suit.

i think arms and legs can stay the same.they need to brake it apart around the stomach and neck.

I gotta admit I would be dissapointed if they didn't have Shepard or follow at least one of the stories from the games, I mean I'd watch it still but I would be wondering what it would, could, should of been like.

and pray to god the filmakers don't screw it up completely...

See, I'm the opposite. I absolutely don't want to see Shepard or the story from the games. I've already experienced it in the medium that story was meant to be experienced. The Mass Effect universe is a rich one, and I would much rather they tell a new story in that universe.

I can see the appeal to the filmmakers especially, they don't get tied down trying to make it perfect or change it up a little screwing us over & the film or spending every moment trying to cram everything in for the fans.

I don't know for sure but I would take a guess more players would rather see Shepard than a new character but I could be wrong but I can see why some fans would want a new story too like you said.
But most importantly the film has to be good :D

I'd almost like to see a side story that takes place during the Reaper invasion of Earth, and Shepard is involved, but has the N7 helmet on the whole time and you can't see his face. He's not a main character, but he does show up.

OR
If Shepard HAS to be in the film, I give a big hell yes to Jeffery Donovan.

But you're right Soapy, the Mass Effect universe is VERY rich with stories that could be told, it's only been around for a few years, but the universe is almost as well established as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Dragon Age.

I feel like the best way to go for a movie (or movies) would be to base them around humanity's first days on the galactic stage. The discovery of the prothean ruins on mars, element zero, mass effect, first contact with the turians, being integrated into the citadel, that sort of stuff.

They're definitely making a film for Mass Effect?! Or are we going to get another Bioshock....

I would say its to early to tell if it will absolutely 100% get made, Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend, Thor) was writing the script as of last year.

I really think that it's not going anywhere if studios are still nervous about doing a Halo or Bioshock movie.
