Mass Violence in America: the All Inclusive Thread

What do you guys and gals think about me changing the title to some simple like MASS SHOOTINGS IN AMERICA.....I don't see them stopping any time soon, and that we will keep them all together.

Honestly, you could title it "This Week's Mass Shooting" and you'd never have to update it.

Might as well.

I don't particularly mind the two shootings sharing a thread, due to the timeframe.

But, as often as it happens, I think individual tragedies deserve their own thread.

I look forward to the right wing talking points about the Dayton shooter being a democrat, and not a raging mysogonist.

I'd keep this thread for the general topic of mass shootings in America, but when a specific particularly bad mass shooting happens start an individual thread and after a week or two, when the individual thread's traffic slows, merge that individual thread with this one. Use this thread as a locker/archive.

I've got to say, I find even having a thread for this is extremely sad... :csad:
There’s the “man bites dog” adage in journalism. I.e., an unusual event deserves coverage, while a common one (“dog bites man”) does not. But at this point, what’s unusual about mass shootings? Indeed, we may have reached the point where the absence of mass shootings would qualify as headline news.

:csad: :mad::wall:

It actually does when there is a break between them. There was a long streak of I think an entire month or two where there wasn't and it made the news.

Just saw on INSIDE EDITION....they said the El Paso killer told police that after his nine hour drive to get there, he was lost and hungry....so he went into the WalMart to get something to eat, he saw it was full of Hispanic looking back to school shoppers....so he went back out and got his gun. So they say the location was randomly picked.

So where was he heading originally?
They just say he was headed to El Paso to do a shooting....the WalMart where he did it was random. People had speculated that he had originally planned on it being the WalMart there because of it's being known in the area as being a popular place for the Mexicans crossing the border to shop to go to....but he apparently just stopped there by accident.

I don't buy that it wasn't a major target.

He was likely going to find some place filled with hispanics. Luck just brought him to that Walmart. El Paso specifically was the target.

I think the point they were making is....he didn't drive 9 hours from Dallas to El Paso because he wanted to shoot people at the WalMart.....he drove there to shoot people, but didn't choose the WalMart until he had went into it to get something to eat and saw how many Hispanics were in there.

This makes me angry on so many levels. :( There were some Spanish speaking people in my Dunkin the other day and like all I wanted to do was say "welcome". I didn't because that would have been awkward but I just feel bad for how they get treated sometimes.

The Dayton shooting is going to get even more bizarre, I think. CNN apparently has video of the shooter meeting with his sister and a friend at the bar an hour before he returned with his weapons.

EDIT: And the president is going to visit both places tomorrow. I can't imagine this going well in El Paso.

His supporters will just call them ingrates.

Vice news showed a Congresswoman in El Pasomsaying Trump shouldn't go there. I'm sure he doesn't care, he probably wants to assure his white supporters not to worry, they weren't the targets after all. :(

He told Beto O'Rourke to be quiet and he would be going anyway. He doesn't care.

The El Paso shooter freely admitted to the police once he was in custody that he went there to kill mexicans. So yeah, not that there was much doubt.
