Mass Violence in America: the All Inclusive Thread

How am I not surprised a sheriff in Georgia posted some racist ****?

It hurts just watching the news. :(

One of the few good things about Covid was there seemed to be less mass shootings. Looking forward to reading about those more and more again soon.

So this guy was another 21 year old. Eerie.

"He's Muslim" is trending and it scares me I knew exactly why. Time for the right to move that anti-Asian hate back to those of the Muslim faith. Anything to ignore the issues with gun control in America.

Well they've always been known for their sensitivity. Like when Charlton Heston decided it was a great time to have a gun rights rally near Columbine like a month after the shooting.
That' happened? Jesus Christ.

It's always too early to speak about gun rights after a mass shooting, but apparently tweeting out about the need to shag your bed of firearms is always a good look. No matter what happened.

No amount of gun control laws will ever protect law abiding citizens from people like the GA shooter or the CO shooter. I wish it weren't so, but it is.

Both states are open carry. I know what I'd be doing if I lived there.

This is false. You may not like the measures, but the idea that you can't stop mass shootings no matter what is just not true. If there are no guns in the ordinary public's hands, how does what happened in either place happen?

Please no, with the "good guy with a gun" stuff. The vast majority of Americans aren't trained or know how to properly own a firearm in the US, let alone use it. This applies to simply gun owners as well. And if you are black, chances are the cops will just shoot you for trying to protect yourself anyways. So yeah, please don't. Not when we are watching people die because of this countries fixation on firearms.

While it's true that we will never eradicate shootings of this nature, sensible gun control laws, strict penalties for violating them, and paying more than lip service to mental health will, IMO, certainly have a significant effect on reducing these incidents.

Most of the people who point to the 2nd amendment don't even know what it means.

EDIT: If we don't do something about this, we'll end up just having the flag flown at half staff continuously and issue daily press releases as to why.

I'm not worried about the good guy with a gun. I live by the old boxing adage "protect yourself at all times" and I'm acquainted with enough unsavory characters to know that criminals can and will get access to the weapons of their choice regardless of their legality. I personally think everyone should take weapons and/or self defense courses. Gunowners should have to go through a comprehensive process to own a weapon, which includes learning how to use it to defend themselves.

But to each their own. However IMO even if we did eradicate all firearms/weapons laws in this country, I believe eventually we would reinstate them because of safety and self defense.

I'll be less worried when the penalty for an illegal firearm is worse than the one suffered by someone who possesses a controlled substance and when voting is easier than buying a gun.....and, yes, I realize there is a "little" bit of hyperbole there.

We've been fine throwing people in jail for years for smoking pot. When we're fine with that for owning illegal firearms, that'll be a good day.

2nd amendment my ass.....it doesn't say you can't regulate firearms.

And yes. Mandatory, recurrent training/background checks if you own a firearm should be the rule of law.

"He's Muslim" was likely trending because a lot of left-wing accounts assumed based on the man being captured alive that he was a white man. Meena Harris literally said as much in her b.s. apology.

There are white muslims.
