Fantasy Masters of the Universe - Part 3

I'd rather see a new animated series first. bring it back in the public consciousness and attempt to get new young fans, then do a live action movie if the show hits. The TMNT formula.... Without the meh movies.

Who are they?

The only noteworthy thing they did was a film called Band of Robbers which basically no one saw. It did get positive reviews, so that's promising.

Eh, I'd rather not have a He-man movie really. The franchise is a bit outdated and likely won't work for modern audiences IMO but hey anything is possible.

Well, I guess the question at this point is; how long will they remain on this project? With that said, I don't know, I suppose maybe fresh new blood or no-name talent is what is needed to lift this film off the ground. Someone who's really hungry. We'll see...

I don't want to say this will never work. Look at Winter Soldier. Anthony and Joe Russo's only credits before that were episodes of Community and bleeping You, Me and Dupree.

But I guess my main issues are Sony Pictures, Tom Rothman, David Goyer.

I will say this. My expectations aren't really high. I don't think we are in a climate where He-Man can be a hit. But I sort of want to see if this movie can get made.

It seems that everyone works on this project for a little while and then jumps ship. Why do they find it so difficult to see through to completion?

On a different subject, is Cringer supposed to be a wild tiger when he is born? Did he become tame as he grew up with Adam?

And in real life, if you were to keep a tiger or lion from when they are a baby cub and raised them to adulthood, would they eat you when they grow up? Or is it possible to raise them as a pet like a cat?

I don't like the people involved in this project.

Character Breakdowns for the film have been revealed.

While Columbia Pictures Masters of the Universe film continues to search for a director after David S. Goyer (who wrote a treatment for the film) passed on the gig, we’ve scored some details on the film’s plot and which of the cast of characters we can expect to see when the film hits theaters next year!

The film’s central plot puts an interesting twist on the 1986 mini-comics series that revealed a familial relationship between Prince Adam and Skeletor. In the comics, Skeletor was once a man named Keldor, the brother of Adam’s father, King Randor. Our source has indicated to us that in the upcoming film, King Randor will be presented as the great warrior-king of Eternia, a descendant of the Grayskulls, and the father of two sons: Adam and Keldor! As the film begins, Keldor is the chosen heir to the throne and his brother, Adam, is young, unfit and a bit of a black sheep. Where Adam’s relationship with his father is strained, Keldor is the epitome of a perfect son, beloved by his father…until the fate of Eternia is put on the line. With his kingdom on the line, Randor puts his people first, betraying Keldor, inciting the series of events that leads to him becoming the iconic Skeletor!

The film will follow the meek and uncertain Adam as he assembles a group of heroes to take on his fallen brother and his collection of cronies. As you might expect, some familiar faces will be joining Adam in the fight. Below are those we’ve been told to expect:

DUNCAN/MAN-AT-ARMS

King Randor’s loyal weaponeer, Duncan is knowledgeable not only about all things weapon-related, but will also serve as a main source of exposition due to his knowledge of Eternia’s history. It seems reasonable to expect he’ll know a thing or two about the Power Sword, should Adam find some reason to go looking for it.

ZODAK

This version of Zodak was described as the King’s Minister of Technology and his right hand man. In the comics, Zodak was an immortal Eternian, having lived through the prehistoric war of the Ancients and the Snake Men, giving him some unique, if not biased, perspective. It seems that we can expect him to serve more of a mentor role to Adam here, described to us as a bit of an “Obi-Wan” type.

TEELA:

Man-at-Arms’ daughter, Teela is Adam’s best friend and, as you might expect, the two will develop a romantic relationship. In canon, Teela was Captain of Eternia’s Royal Guard and we know that she’ll serve in the military in the film as well.

ORKO:

One of the He-Man’s most loyal allies, Okra was also one of the most interesting additions to the line. Developed to add some comedy to the 80’s animated series, Orko became a key member of the group and his attempts at using the magic his people, the Trollans, were known for often ended badly. In the film Orko will be reimagined as a small man whose self-doubt holds him back from being a reasonably mediocre wizard.

STRATOS:

Nicknamed the Angel of Death, Stratos is the leader of the Sky Guards of the Iron Gate Prison on Avion where Skeletor and his crew are imprisoned at one point.

Speaking of Skeletor’s cronies, here’s a look at who we were told to expect to see line up along Skeletor as he searches for the Havoc Staff!

BEAST MAN:

Possibly Skeletor’s most well-known and beloved (if it’s possible to love a bad guy) henchman, Beast Man, the first action figure developed for the line by Mattel, is in! Always a savage and powerful foe, this iteration of Beast Man will bring a little something different to the table: he’s a shapeshifter with the ability to turn into any type of beast, making him a useful spy for Skeletor as well as a formidable fighter. No word on if he’ll find himself trapped in the slime pit…again.

EVIL LYN:

A powerful and intelligent witch, Evil Lyn is the femme fatale of the film. She will use her power to help Skeletor reconstruct the Havok Staff and, probably, try to betray him and take power for herself. She’s always been open with Skeletor about hoping to rule Eternia for herself, so bringing that tenuous alliance to the big screen would provide some interesting opportunities.

TRAP JAW:

Part man, part machine with razor sharp jaws, Trap Jaw is a pretty interesting choice and seems pretty disposable. The cyborg’s interchangeable parts make him interesting, but what we all really want to know is will we see him slide down a wire via the cool helmet loop?!!

With a proposed budget of over $100M, this film seems ready to go all out in an effort to reestablish the Masters of the Universe as a pop culture icon. With a mythology and cast of characters as deep and well-established as this, we hope that they find the right director to bring these characters to the big screen and kick off what could be one hell of a franchise!

Not sure how I feel about Keldor/Skeletor and Adam being brothers.

I don't like the idea of Keldor now being Adam's brother. Why can't he stay as his uncle? I preferred him being an older person who was lost for many years and whom Adam didn't really know.

And I don't like Orko being turned into a small man. That sounds like they're turning him into Gwildor again. Why can't he stay in his classic form as the floating wizard with only eyes and no face showing?

And that doesn't really seem like there's enough villains there on Skeletor's side. How about Tri-Klops as the weapons master to counter Man-at-Arms? I wanted Merman as well. They need some other brutes too like Whiplash.

Already ****ing **** up. It's not rocket science.

If it were me, then I`d at least set up a meeting with the trio behind Turbo Kid, given their ages as well as their sensibilities, it stands to reason that they are familiar with the franchise. Besides, they aren't big names so it would be easy to lock them down. Just see if they click with the studio and Goyer.

Some of these character changes are really arbitrary. Like why would Beastman shape shift? He's the Beastman.

Some of those descriptions also don't make any sense. How would Randor betray Skeletor?

Also making Skeletor He-Man's brother? They are clearly just trying to make this like Thor and make Skeletor into Loki. DUMB. Skeletor is Skeletor, not Loki.

Skeleton should be more of a cross between Red Skull and Doom, not Loki. He's not some mischief making anti hero.

I didn't see that about Beastman. That's dumb.

Well I guess the inverse here is that these breakdowns cast Skeletor as the golden boy and Adam as the black sheep...so they are looking for a role reversal of the Thor/Loki relationship, but that clearly seems to be what they're going for.

Yes to this. Voltron is another good example of an older cartoon getting revamped successfully. Now we need one for Thundercats as well.

I like the part where Stratos is a violent and dangerous ally to the main heroes, but the rest sounds like rubbbish.

Didn't Guy Ritchie already make this movie?

I reiterate, pay me a decent sum and let me write and direct this ****. I'm getting a little sick of all this rigamarole. The ****ing first episode of the 80s series and the 2002 series are your templates right there.

Sounds like dog****. Creators once again trying to stamp their own identity over a property at the expense of everything that was cool about it to begin with.

We got one for Thundercats in 2011, but it only lasted 1 season.

Don’t worry guys! They have the Knights Who Say Nee directing this thing! I’m sure they’ll find a way to make all of this work like they have in their vast array of other blockbuster films!

Well they have a December 2019 deadline. So they'd have to start filming fairly soon.
