That's right... I'm a freak, and I already started my Halloween Costume... and it's still January. Let me explain.

In the past I've spent basically every waking free moment starting in about the last week of august to complete my costumes. Here are some examples of past costumes...

One year I was Mayor McCheese, of McDonaldLand politics.
Sidebar: I stored this in my basement, and the bun sesame-seeds (that were actually jellybeans) got eaten by mice... Which pisses me off.

Two years ago I was THE power loader from 'Aliens' (complete with a Ripley doll that was riding in it).

And this past year I was He-Man riding BattleCat.
(Here's a link to a thread that follows the step-by-step making of this costume)

So, these costumes take for f-ing ever! I'm thinking if I start now and go REALLY REALLY slowly, I'll finish in Oct. withOUT having a to ruin a ton of weekends.

2007s costume...

My F-ing Pet Monster.

I know this was basically a toy-fad of the 80's (although it did turn into a cartoon and a live-action straight to video movie, which blew my mind btw), but I worshiped this stuffed animal in the same way that the godless worship a golden calf (PS: I worship a golden calf).

So that's my idea for a costume... And making those break-away handcuffs is gonna be a crap-load of fun!!!

Let me know what you think of the idea!

I officially love you... do it now...

Well after I came up with this idea today while bored in class, I couldn't help but get even the smallest of starts on this *****e-tastic project...

So I started work on the My-Pet-Monster-Eyes!

So I started with some wood balls I bought @ JoAnne Fabrics (the holiest of business establishments for a-holes like me AND soccer moms).

Painted them yellow...

Painted em so the fade from orange in the back to yellow in the front.

Added some green...

... and some horribly/wonderfully cheesy pupils!

Sadly, the last step is gonna take a few days to complete, as it involved covering these things several times with clear, high-gloss polyurethane so they are shiny like the toy's eyes... But I'll post a pic of the finished product when they are complete.

Let me know what you think of the eyes, and the costume idea in general!

the guy in the facebook costume cracked me up

you guys are definitely creative

Quick update...

The last layer of polyurethane is dried and so the eyes are finished. Here's a pic...

It's hard to really get the shine to come across in a still picture, but in person they do look like the toy's eyes... and not so much like wooden balls with paint on them.

Next up, I plan to build the guts of the mask.

Let me know what you think of the eyes, and the idea in general!

So here's a quick update...

I've just been thinking about the way the proportions are gonna have to be to make this thing work before I start on the innards of the mask so as an exercise I did a quick sketch (and for good measure I whipped out the crayolas... cause that's how I roll).

I'm quickly coming to the realization that My Pet Monster is gonna be My F-ing Huge-a$$ Monster... But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'll update when I have more ACTUAL progress to show.

that's a great idea, i had one of these when i was little, his name was Brutus.
and you're not a freak by the way, my best friend started designing his next halloween costume the day after last halloween he's making a complete fiberglass Iron Man costume with light up eyes, repulser ray circles on his palms, a voice changer, and speakers that'll play iron man by Black Sabbath while he walks around.

Lol, I'd totally like to see that.

Good progress so far, Mattchew.

Keep it coming :yay:
