This whole dam thing is friggin' hilarious!! ROFL!! That is the gayest looking He-Man I've ever seen! Nice wig and boots and I won't even touch the shorts! I think you need some fake muscles...

Other than funny you did a really good job! That is one time-consuming costume you got!

I am gay... So I've decided to take the phrase "gayest looking He-Man I've ever seen" as a complement. Having said that, I can understand skirting the issue of the shorts. :)

I really really hope you get it all finished, because so far it is one of the best halloween costumes I have even seen.

I'll get done if I have to skip all sleep between now and Sat... I will not, however, skip the Gwar concert I'm going to on Friday.

Ha, it amuses me when someone says "You look so gay there." and the gay guy gets to say, "Duh, thanks."

More progress...

DSC00412.jpg

Finished Power Sword. I added cloth around the grip, and I cut two dimond shapes out of REALLY thin wood and glued them on to each side and spray painted it again. DONE!

DSC00402.jpg

BattleCat on his back so I can attach the front paws. Here they're just attached with hot glue...

DSC00403.jpg

Now the gaps between the paws and arms have been padded and covered with the green fur.

BattleCat is ready for battle... minus a saddle and hind paws.

Another angle.

Today, it seems like I didnt get much done, but I wrapped up the front paws and the sword... Plus I spent about 1.5 hours making a hat for brother's costume... He's going as the 3rd storm (the lightening guy) from 'Big Trouble In Little China' for anyone who knows what that is.

Still left to complete:
***Hind legs made and attached.
***Paper mache and paint the saddle.
***Fake He-Man Legs.

I'm losing my will to keep on keepin on with this costume so tomorrow I'm breaking out the big guns: My 'Masters Of the Universe' DVD. What can I say... Dolph Lundgren inspires me.

Awesome work Mattchew! So are you going to go shirtless with this? :D

off topic ... you are a hottie!

Looks great though. Looking forward to the end product.

So your brother's being lightning guy, eh? Haha. It'd be cool if he were lightning guy, the exploding version.

I just saw the other pics .... you are shirtless :D

The costume looks great ...

I'm kinda operating under the idea that its funny that i dont have muscles... hopefully that is more clear in person. I know I laugh @ how non-muscular I am when I'm looking @ myself in the mirror.

Yeah... wearing a shirt seems like a move to try and retain a bit of dignity... and that's not what I'm about.

I thought Adam/He-man was the Prince of Eternia not the Queen??

jk....hehehe..Nice work on the Costume......

yeah... the gay jokes might be flowing a bit too freely.

I'm the first to say that a person who cant laugh @ him or herself is a complete jerk, but when you're laughing at yourself along with others, its nice to know you're all laughing for the same reasons... which i hope you can appreciate is made a bit harder to determine when dealing with strangers over the internet.

i have no problem with being called gay, if the intention is to say 'you're a homosexual'... but if 'gay' is a substitute for a 'weirdo' or a 'fool' I'd prefer to be call a 'weirdo' or 'fool'.

having said ALL of that, no need qualify any previous statements because Im not under any impression that malice was ever intended...

and for the record, if people feel the need to say I look like a fool in my costume... you can assume I agree 100%.... that was kinda the point. that's why I think its funny. :)

btw... i tried to write the above post as carefully as possible so it didnt seem like I was calling anyone out... but if it reads that way, I didnt mean to call anyone out.

everyone should consider themselves 'not called'.

No maliciaousness meant, the joke would have been made and would have applied even if you were straight....

Keep up the good work on the costume..

Well no offense intended... I did say what I meant though, it definetely isn't a straight guys He-Man costume! Good job!

Dude...I love Big Trouble in Little China! That's awesome that your little bro is going as Lightning. It would be cool to have 2 of his friends to go as the other storms.

Anyways, I hope the rest of your costume making goes well. You are also working on my favorite childhood cartoon character (He-Man), so I'm looking forward to seeing the final product. YOU HAVE THE POWER!

Just a note on the idiocy of prejudice.

As comic fans we as a communitty should be the most tolerant of all people regardless of race, religion, or sexual preferance.

Hasn't the X-men taught us anything

thanks for your thoughts everyone... there was no need for anyone to explain previous statements, but it was appreciated none the less.

as for people asking for a pic of the final product.... its not done.

I started the fake he-man loegs yesterday, but it was also trick or treat last night so I had to hand out candy for 1.5 hours (in monster make-up... i made kids cry) AND I have a project due and midterm today... so I'm kinda screwed.

Today I plan to rush home mid-afternoon and paper mache the addle so it has drying time over this evening so I can spray it when I get home @ around 1am from the [gwar] concert im going to tonight.

then tomorrow is gonna be a b|tch cause I'm gonna run a sh|tload (aka 15 mile) so being half naked is slightly less akward for me, plus i have to make the hind legs for battlecat and the fake legs for he-man.

i wish it was saturday night and i was drunk right now cause getting there is gonna be a b|tch.

I'll keep you all posted with pics as I make finishing touches and Ill post some pics from sat night sometime on sunday.

wish me luck on my midterm.

nicely put. i loved the story in 'ultimate xmen' with colusus coming out to nightcrawler (one of the book's more conventional victims of bigotry) and the slightly hypocritical reaction on nightcrawler's part.

the films, obviously, address these issues too... sometimes in ways I find a bit forced unfortunately because it gives people a cue that they can feel free to roll their eyes at something that is very serious.

the comic always outshine the movies in their ability to address social issues... but that nightcralwer scene at the beginning of x2 was pretty f-ing sweet too.

Hey y'all, I'm a new member to the forums, but i've been checkin this place out for quite some time, just haven't had the time to create an account. first of all, Mattchew, these costumes are so cool...i have done similar stuff in the past, but it was related to my school, just not so big and not for halloween. also, do you recommend a special type of paper mache? or do you just buy whichever is cheapest? I was thinking about doing a costume next year, but i wanted to know if it mattered what type of glue to use.

i just use flour and water and mix it till its a little bit more thin than glue. and the smaller the strips you use the better.

Great work dude! If u have a little extra time, maybe u could make these, only do it in flesh colours, just a suggestion. Anyways it looks great already esp the battle cat.

Great costume, Mattchew! I hope your party isn't too crowded...I learned the hard way that get-ups like that are hard to maneuver in.
